  1. Correct. It was the loops I'm after... You rock. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. Just in case there's any confusion: His reputation remains in much better shape than yours. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm very impressed with the engineering on the Icon. I wish I would've gotten the new risers, tho... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. Well said. I suspected from the start this thread stunk, and I'm glad you stepped up. $30 is a perfectly reasonable amount to charge for an 8.5 * 11, and the whiners who think that's too expensive should just not buy it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. Amazing. That sounds almost exactly the same as an incident that happened at Chicagoland about 5 years ago. In that case, the down-plane suspended student managed to put himself exactly between two insulated powerlines running alongside highway 30. The powerlines succesfuly stopped the downplane before the student fell gently to the ground, completely uninjured... __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. As a fellow fat guy, who loads up a big canopy pretty heavily.... You have absolutely no business jumping that canopy. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. When I moved to Chicago, I kept my Ontario plates for 4 years.... It sure was handy when I got pulled over. Of course, I also kept my Ontario drivers license. Doing both is key... I finally bit the bullet and got Illinois plates and license when we bought a new car here. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. Dude... Harsh. But fun, too! Post pics! Vibes heading down your way. Gimme a shout when you can talk... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. I spent a good part of last week with Brian Germain in a Canopy seminar. I had the upper level of experience in the class, with over 700 jumps. My wife had the low end, with 26. The demographics of the class were representative between the two extremes. There were 4 people with less than a hundred jumps. We all went to the same seminar, we all learned the same things, and we all took away a LOT of new knowledge about how to fly a high performance wing. We covered everything from different types of toggle turns to harness input, front and rear riser manuevers, even high speed stalls. At the end of the day, even the 35 jump newbies were practicing harness turns and rehearsing how to bail from a turn done too low. Wtihtout a doubt, we start teaching how to swoop in our first jump courses when we start teaching "the pattern". That instruction should continue until the jumper gives up the sport. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. According to www.dpreview.com, the lens on both the DSC-V1 and V3 is the equivalent of 34mm at it's widest. That's not very wide.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. The Insurance company is acting as the jumpers agent, and thus would be bound by the waiver. When the insurance company sues, technically the insurance company sues on behalf of the injured. If the jumper doesn't have insurance, the hospital is not a party to the waiver. __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. A skilled attorney could place a share of blame on a DZ if someone hooks in under a canopy they shouldn't be jumping, moreso if the DZ sold it to him. Any bit of torn reform I've ever heard of wouldn't change that. Remember that the hospital isn't a party to the waiver. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. I think it's only a matter of time before a hospital sues a DZ to recover to cost of an uninsured skydiver getting a chopper flight. When that happens, the decisions will be made for us, and you won't be able to find a DZ anywhere in the US that will allow you to jump without it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. Sangiro's Synergy is still on Geocities, I think. http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/4422/ I don't remember that being the same as Dropzone.com... You're one of the few that were around before I started posting, though. Maybe it was the same site before I came here...? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Harsh. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. It seems we're in agreement then. In the post you replied to, I was refering to the products, not the computer. Anyways, it's still good advice to look for the "High Speed" logo, rather than the spec number. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. Sorry, it's not. From http://www.usb.org/developers/packaging/ Inconsistent use of terminology in combination with the existing general misconception that USB 2.0 is synonymous with Hi-Speed USB and/or failure to display the Certified USB logo on qualified products creates confusion in the marketplace. Always look for the "High Speed" logo. USB 2.0 can also be "Full Speed", which is the speed used by 1.0 _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. I really like the Sony .6. It's actually wider than my Kenko .5, which I rarely use any more. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. It's dificult to add a second internal hard drive. You can replace the one hard drive you have now, that's usually pretty striaght forward. 1) backup all your stuff 2) remove old HD 3) add new HD 4) install OS + apps 5) restore the backup of all your stuff Otherwise, a good option is to add an external hard drive. You can get either a Firewire or USB drive. If you go USB make sure it's labeled as "High Speed USB2". Just because it's USB2 doesn't mean it's high speed. Also, make sure your laptop supports USB2. Many older ones do not. If your laptop has a firewire port, then it's a no-brainer, get a firewire disk. If your laptop has neither firewire nor USB 2, then you'll need to buy an expansion card that plugs into the PCMCIA socket. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. That's what we have in our condo, ours was sold under the brand Kahrs. It's only a few monthes old so we don't know how well it will last. Right now, it's gorgeous. It looks a lot nicer than any of the Pergo products I've seen. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. Why does it matter if he's charging $30 / print, or $10/print + a $20 jump ticket? It's still $30. That's why I said I agree it may not be smart, because ultimately he's not marketing himself very well. If he'd asked for the same mount of money, but just worded it different this issue wouldn't have come up. $30 / print is a perfectly reasonable amount to charge for an 8 X 10. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. The photos for illinois suck. Chicagoland Skydiving Center is barely visible... And Skydive Chicago doesn't even exist. It seems the photos predate the DZ. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. It may be a poor idea, but its his choice to make. You're one of only a handful of people here who understand the costs involved in setting up a good camera helmet. To everyone else who only sees a bunch of electronics strapped to a vidiots helmet, understand that a good camera helmet setup often costs well over $2000. Add in the fact that we usually go through gear at a pretty quick rate, understand that in a five year timeframe that photographer is often paying $5000 for the privelege of taking your pictures. To most photographers, the idea of ever turning a profit is rediculous. Most would be very happy to come close to covering the cost of the gear. Do him, and the rest of us a favor? If you see a picture you like, and want... BUY IT. $30 is a perfectly reasonable price to pay for a good shot that you like. I usually sell my photos for $20-$30. When people complain that they're too expensive, I make a note to avoid jumping with them. When people do buy them, often times I'll do them favors, like giving them additional prints for free. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. You can't learn everything by reading. Sometimes you need to just go out and pretend you're wearing a pair of Nike shoes. Just do it.. The fact is that you already have all the skills you need to acheive directional control while tracking. Go and try, and enjoy the EUREKA! moment when you figure it all out. It's the best part of learning new things. If you've already tried and are struggling, then we can probably come up with some good advice to help. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Is this also true with the more recent 550 and 580 EX units? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
