  1. Today dupont announced that they're going to roll all of their fabric business into new division. MSNBC cronies were speculating that they're doing this so they can sell it off, as it's not terribly profitable. To what extent is it the quality of the fabric over the SoarCoat coating that gives the SolarMax fabric it's good reputation? _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  2. Read this: http://www.perftex.com/CanopyCare.htm It's written by Performance Textiles, the people who supply PD. _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  3. Hrm Quoting PD's "How to prevent hard openings" The pertinent line being the one that says each stow should be released one at a time. Again, no thanks. It might work for reserves, but reservers are SUPOSED to slam you, and are designed for it. _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  4. Exactly. And this is one of the reasons that WFFC has been such a cool thing for so many years. It's the place where everybody's equals. There are no regulars, there are no attitudes, it's not the case that the regulars have alredy theifed the good camping spots near the washrooms. And yeah, Otters may be ski lifts, but CASA's let you do big ways, PITTS Specials are just fun, and your 212 has got NOTHING on the 412. Plus you've got Rogers moralistic attitudes, that he's chosen not to hide more recently. _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  5. Roger made the exact same prediction last year, 1000 jumpers. I think he maxed out at 600 individual jumpers, over the whole week. Which isn't bad, but it isn't WFFC. I went to Quincy last year. I had a great time. Yes, there were more cops. Yes, there were still naked skydiving. There was still a line-up of airplanes that's never been matched. I don't know where I'll end up this year, it really depends on what Kirlin has to say. If Kirlin manges to get it togeather, get me some fun planes, I will probably go play there. I can jump Roger Nelsons otters any time I want. _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  6. AFF IS outdated. The whole teaching method was outdated, that's why the USPA did the ISP in the first place. Coaches is just the first step in this5 process. Secondly from what I understand, just because you're doing AFP, you still need coaching intil you get your A. If the AFP is 15 jumps, you're sill going to need 5 coach jumps until you get your 'A' which I think is still 20 jumps. Coaching is a GOOD THING. The only debate is whether your DZ makes you pay for it or not. _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  7. Slowfaller - should've kept driving. Winds at altitude were cranking, but were negligable at ground level. You missed a good day of jumping. _Am ICQ: 5578907 @ MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  10. Hey Justin, Your web-logbook is really cool. Quesion: Does JumpTrack generate the HTML for the logbook, or do you do that manually? Do you have a program that does this autmatically? _Am 5578905 @ ICQ AndyMan! @ MSN Messenger ametcalf_1999 @ Yahoo IM
  11. Why are you in such a rush to get your gear NOW? Your instructor is correct, the ZP is safer then the Hornet. However, after 100 jumps the ZP will bore the piss out of you. The Hornet will keep you interested for longer. A hundred jumps may seem like a lot, but that could very well be this year. The Hornet is a perfectly good canopy, good for low time jumpers. What is the delivery time on the hornet? How many jumps will you have by the time it shows up? What level of proficiency would you have then? Could you work with your instructor to prepare for the hornet? Just because you're not ready for the Hornet NOW, doesn't mean you won't be ready in two monthes. Depending on how you regularly you jump, I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be ready for the Hornet in a few weeks if not by the time summer rolls around. Again, keep talking to your instructor. _Am 5578905 @ ICQ AndyMan! @ MSN Messenger ametcalf_1999 @ Yahoo IM
  12. This is realated to a very old discussion. When people just started doing hook turns, many drop zones panicked and banned the practice completely, hoping to put the jeanie back in the bottle. This is why, if you browse the the "Dropzones" section, you'll see the field that states wether hook turns are allowed, at all. I would be very surprised if anybody here says a C licence at a minimum is an unreasonable requirement. C LICENCE? C'MON. If you're hot shit enough to hook it in, you're hot shit enough to get a C licence. I wouldn't jump at a dropzone that let people with less then a C hook turn. Hell, I'd prefer a D. _Am 5578905 @ ICQ AndyMan! @ MSN Messenger ametcalf_1999 @ Yahoo IM
  13. Saturday was a sunny 45 degrees in Chicago. I drove out to Morris, had a rigger inform me that I had some minor line issues with the install job on my new Stiletto, then did two jumps. Both jumps were from a 182. Morris had a King Air available, but only a 182 pilot. Doh! Anyways, first jump was a 7 point three way. Not great, but I dumped high to play with the new canopy. Second jump was a 0 point three way. At some time in the future I'll post a rant about freeflyers with 200 jumps that can't do BASIC RW work. I don't understand how someone can completely ignore a major part of skyding. All openings were beautifull. The fragility of the Stiletto's on heading openings will clearly take some getting used to, though. Had some serious ground rush after a 180 riser turn at 1000 feet. Diving straight down at a hanger is... interesting. Bags of altitude, so all in good fun. Sunday involved a early morning breakfast at Chicago's West Egg Cafe with an old friend, lunch at a different West Egg Cafe with an old co-worker, a wine tasting party at 3:00pm, then dinner with neighbours at a local restaurant. A good weekend. _Am

  24. How heavy is it? Do you have an ounce scale? Both my Velocity and Z-1 weigh in at 1 pound .6 ounces, or 650 grams. You don't want it to be much heavier - you can have severe neck injuries on a hard opening. How does the helmet constrict your vision? To what extent does it reduce your pereferial version? Is there anything that would snag risers or lines? Is there only one buckle or snap involved in removing it? Could you ditch the helmet easily if it does snag the lines? _Am
  25. First, cookies seem to expire frequently, causing me to re-log in every few days. Secondly, a suggestion. How about a link from within the forums, to a users profile. Not the forum profile, but the one that lists canopy, ratings, etc. Thirdly, publish the connection info for the Pub, so that we don't have to use your IRC client. Fourth, UPGRADE THE CONTENT ON THE HOME PAGE! :) _Am
