The last time the UN had any evidence of WMD in Iraq was 1994 - 3 years after then end of Desert Storm. So - you're saying Dub'ya should have 3 years? Ok, thats pretty fair. In reality though, I think he'll only have 2 - until his next election. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

TSA info, let them know how you feel
AndyMan replied to LouDiamond's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here is the email I sent them today: >From your website: "Believe it or not, parachutes are another item that can be damaged as part of the security screening process. Consider other means of shipping or at the very least, please check parachutes closely before using. " Parachutes are live saving devices. They must not be tampered with by people unfamiliar with their operation. TSA agents need to understand that by tampering with a Parachute, they are risking the lives of the people who depend on them. For an agent to attempt to disasemble a parachute would be similar to a agent disasembling a deflibrulator, or a pace-maker. That agents actions could very likely kill someone. Moreover, it is physically dangerous for an individual unfamiliar with the operation of a parachute to attempt to open one. They are spring loaded, and frequently break jaw-bones of curious individuals. Parachutes frequently open with over 75 pounds of force. What will the TSA's reaction be when a skydiver dies because a curious TSA agent tampered with his gear? The TSA must adopt a policy of contacting the owners of gear and requesting assistance when more thorough inspections are required. This goes to the safety of both the TSA agent and the owner of the gear. It is unnaceptable for agents working behind the scenes in seclusion to attempt to open parachutes. Moreover - TSA agents must become familiar with skydiving gear in the first place. Skydivers understand concerns surrounding aircraft safety, we understand tha there are components of skydiving gear that look particularly interesting under X-RAY to an untrained eye. All skydiving gear is similar in construction, and these "interesting" components look exactly the same under x-ray in nearly every parachute system. TSA X-ray technicians need to be able to recognize mundane components for what they are. Andrew Metcalfe Chicago, Illinois. __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

Nah, a real skydiver would know that the sunlight would cause your beer to oxydize and go skunky LONG before it gets warm, if you're drinking it outside on a hot summer day from a clear glass. A demonstration we used to do when I worked for Molson - a beer would go completely skunky in in under 8 minutes. Keep your beers in the shade, guys... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Have you ever been injured while skydiving?
AndyMan replied to Clownburner's topic in Safety and Training
I haven't broken anything skydiving. That said, I earned the dz title "Muppet of the Year" when I broke my right ankle running to the plane last june. I thought I broke my left ankle while jumping at Rantoul (with a broken right ankle), but MRI's showed it to be a sprain. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

I mentioned FCC rules. Clearly the FAA also has rules. Break them at your own risk. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

My Stiletto loaded at 1.6. Strangely, I've landed it in 8 feet of corn every time. I wouldn't recomend to anyone to do their first jump on a new canopy at night. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Correct. The FCC's airborne cellphone prohibition is in Part 22, which is specific to 800 MHz cellular service; there is no corresponding rule in Part 24, which governs PCS. (IIRC) I presume the same issues apply. I am SUCH a geek. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

then why is firewire 800 relevant? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I can't answer the pilots point of view, but I can tell you that you'll be breaking FCC regulations, which have potential jail time as penalties. Yes, the FAA bans cellphones in planes because of interference - but - the FCC also bans cellphones in planes because they can "see" too many celltowers at once, and it can screw up the cell system. If I'm intentionally bringing a cellphone - ie, a crosscountry, then I'll turn it off in the plane. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I can sit in mine.... It's basically a freefly suit with big camera wings. In a sit the wings effectively cup air. It gives me a great range... I can slow it down to RW speeds in a sit if I want to, depenending on how much wing I use. I got mine from Merlin - http://www.merlinsuits.com/ _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

A friend of the family go through this - almost exact same thing, except he met her in San Diego. She was younger then all his children. Don't worry, they'll have the marriage anulled (sp?) within a few monthes. These never last... Is your dad particularly affluent? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

According to an articl in the bangkok post, USB 1.1 was secretly renamed to.... USB 2.0. What did they do with the "old" 2.0 standard? Nothing. There's now two "USB 2.0" standards. One runs at 12 MB/sec, the other at 425 MB/sec. Confused yet? This is important because people were expecting USB 2.0 to be a compeditor to Firewire - fast enough for DV. It now seems that is not the case. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Not only that, but if you do a search on her other posts, you just might find she speaks with some authority. Edited to add, she keeps herself anonymous in the hope that people will use good judgement when reading these forums. One would hope an experienced skydiver can spot good advice when they see it regardless of who it comes from. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -

Because he did it with enough frequency, it WAS preventative. I can't explain it in technical terms, but sucking out the really moist air and allowing "normal" sorta-moist air back in was all that was required. His lenses would still fog up on serious cloud, but would work fine in many clouds that others didn't. I mentioned the FXC chamber for a reason - that's actually what he used. I don't believe they are capable of creating anything even slightly resembling a true vacuum, which could create ice. He'd leave the lenses in the chamber sometimes for extended periods of time. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

The worst drink I was asked to pour for a guy... Well, I've got two: 1) beer and coke. 2) Bailey's and coke. I think (2) takes the cake - the acid in the coke cause the cream to curdle. I can't possibly imagine WHY somebody would want that. This guy ordered 3 of them. The worst I've had? I dunno. I was once trained as a bartender, so I'm pretty good at coming up with things that taste good. I'll have to go with the "649" - which is named after the government run Lottery in Ontario - one of those 49, pick six deals. Look at the bar. Take the sixth bottle from the right, the 4th bottle from the left, then the ninth bottle from the right. Mix equally. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I bought mine for $20 at home depot. It's an aluminum sided case with strong buckles and hinges. It's sold in the toolbox section. It's shaped like a briefcase. The downside is that it comes standard with dividers instead of foam. I was originally going to swap them out for foam, but never bothered. I've found the dividers work pretty well. __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
