  1. Actually, you can... but the math involved isn't simple, and I'm the wrong guy to try to explain it... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  3. I'll turn up the geekiness one level further. try this: http://2187204333/ or, even geekier: any of these: 1. http://2187204333 2. http://6482171629 3. http://10777138925 4. http://15072106221 _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. Wow. That's a better offer then I get from craichead... Will you pack naked? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. alti-3 will be at WFFC, and they will bring their test chamber. It's the easiest way to get yours checked. They'll test against a standardized calibrated altimeter. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Yes my little sweet-pea! We're blissfully in love, totally ignorant of the rampant divorce rates.... We're gonna be different! Nah, in all seriousness, neither of us are seriously considering doing the citizenship thing... I think craichead posted this as a hypothetical long term thing. We won't be making any quick decisions on that front... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. I quit last September, I've have had a few relapses. I smoked a bit on the weekends in the fall, but have stuck to it since then. I did try one cigarette early this spring, but couldn't finish it. Apart from that one I didn't finish, I haven't smoked since christmas I can't even remember the last time I had a craving... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. Roughly 26,000 people commit suicide every year. A few years ago, one of them was my cousin. He was found hainging from the ceiling in his dorm room at college. He was the kind of kid that everyone thought would take over the world - smart, hansome, popular, he seemed to have it all. Aparently his demons were darker then we had imagined. I'm all for homeopathic remedies, but I doubt very much that a few sessions of smiling in the mirror would've stopped my cousin from hanging himself. I worry very much that someone in a similar position to him might see these suggestions and decide, no - he doesn't need profesional help. he'll just smile in the mirror a few times, and that'll fix everything. I worry he'll do this, and he too will end up hanging from the ceiling in his college dorm. Depression is a very real illness that kills over 26,000 Americans every year. It is the 3rd leading cause of death in those under 25. So many people want to help, but in this case it's really best if we leave that up to the profesionals. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Most of my friends in Toronto drive over the river to Niagara Falls, New York. There's a dz there called Frontier Skydivers. Check 'em out: http://www.frontierskydivers.com/ _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. I've also found rinsing with bleach does a pretty good job of nuking the smell, lasts for a while, too. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. I'm staying out of this one... That said, nobody has to give up citizenship. As to why someone would want to, well - Americans have a proud history of giving up and heading north. It peaked during the Vietnam war, but has been picking up since 9/11. Here's an article from the Associated Press outlining the current trend: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=517&ncid=517&e=4&u=/ap/20030719/ap_on_re_ca/considering_canada _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. This is awesome news. It is really amazing how many people have so many cool thoughts about Eric. That itself is a testament to his strength of character. Heal quickly, Eric. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. It updates about twice a second once it figures out you're moving. It updates once every 5 seconds when it thinks you're stationary. The switch in modes happens after the first 5 second update. As to being a expensive toys for yuppy skydivers, you can find them for $125, which is comparable with the cost of a new alti-3. I would not recomend these to anyone who has less then 500 jumps. The numbers are small and I have dificulty reading them while freeflying - my wrist buffets too much in the wind. They are not for people who depend on instruments for altitude awareness. Also, Suunto makes different models, and some of them are more dificult to read in direct sunlight. At altitude, I have found them consistent with new alti-3's, and a newly installed altimeter in a King Air. On the ground, I've seen it off by +-50 feet which changes throughout the day. Even though the weather doesn't appear to change, I do attribute this to changes in the air-preasure. Conclusion? It works well for me, and most of the instructors and vidiots on the DZ. Not for student or novice use. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. Keep in mind that a some of the more advanced skydivers are switching from standard altimeters to wrist-watch "Suunto" altimeters... They're very common at my DZ among those with more then a few hundred jumps. To someone who doesn't recognize them, they may look like a normal wrist-watch, and you would think they are not wearing an altimeter, when in fact they are. http://www.suunto.com/pls/suunto/suunto2.pubproduct.prod_view?in_product_id=328&in_prodgrp_id=164 I switched to a Suunto watch about a month ago, when I realised it'd been more then a month since I'd even looked at my alti-3 in freefall. Now I use my Suunto predominantly only while setting up for a swoop. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Other then simply being pedantic, is there any reason for this? To someone who really doesn't give a horses ass either way about the argument, it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense. Using base gear, jumping from a very low altitude, into mostly still air... it seems pretty clear to me. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. I'd love to be in on it, but will only be there the first weekend. I hope it goes better then the attempts last year... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  20. Here's mine: http://bombshelter.ca/~andy/photos/Perris/pages/DSCF0104.htm I had a great time hanging and jumping with Eric when I was down for new years. I hope he gets his smile back real soon... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. Yeah, Kobe Bryant, the basketball player. Also, in a news conference today, he admitted to adultery, but denied the assault. Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. Reports of people jumping with pretty much all of the JVC cameras are negative. The last one I saw had some pretty major auto-focus issues going on, and previous to that I saw one which would record a blue screen for 5 seconds on every opening. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. CW03-01 requires a note be made on your reserve packing card that it has been performed. In addition, the reserve pin is to be marked with a permanent marker, and a sticker is to be put on your reserve handle. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. A very interesting article, I found on slashdot. http://search.nap.edu/issues/19.2/strauss.htm "Unlike most articles on the subject, this one neither pooh-poohs the risks ('We have estimated that reported events are occurring at a rate of about 15 and perhaps as many as 25 per year') nor exaggerates them ('RF interference from consumer electronics is unlikely to have figured in more than a few percent of commercial air accidents, if any at all, during the past 10 years.'). Instead, it presents a sensible plan for dealing with the risks that will accompany the inevitable expansion of the range of electronic devices passengers will use in flight, including cell phones and wireless computer networking." __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Yup. Don't screw with your sinuses. Wait until you're off all medications AND feel %100. DZ's are littered with people who made the wrong choice, some of them have permanent ear damage. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
