  1. Weird thing is that has NEVER bothered me and I love doing high altitude hop and pops. It's weird how hanging by threads from 10,000 feet is so easy, when I can stand at the edge of a tower and be scared to death. I think one reason I love doing H&Ps is because I have so much time to enjoy the air, view and can mess around and not be nervous at all. A lot of the time I'll look down and check things out below me. Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  2. This sport is like anything else. You can die at anytime. Gear in this sport has hit the point that you can really be in control of life or death. Fact is 97% of deaths in this sport are due to really stupid mistakes and the rest are either someone else's mistake that kills you or something you stupidly overlooked. When you realize that just like everything else, you can participate and stay alive, it makes things as easy as anything else in life that we do day to day. Go ahead and jump. You really do not have any more chance of dying in a skydive than you do driving your car to work. The "realities" of this sport are no worse than every other danger we are exposed to every day in our lives. It's just portrayed as very dangerous and you hear about these things from sources that make you feel like it's worse than it really is. 3. Everyone is nervous until they're out of the plane. Then it's just pure bliss. Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  4. That's the way I see it. lol Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan

  7. Honestly, you just can't tell if someone could ever be a skydiver. It's not something you can tell by looking at someone or knowing them a bit. If you knew them very well I'm sure you have heard them say there's no way in hell that they would ever do it, but that's mostly the exception. Too many types of people are capable of these sorts of things, yet would never attempt other things. Me for example, I'm afraid of bungee jumping. Still haven't TOUCHED that crap. My parents and family has known me for 26 years now on the 9th, and were really surprised to see me fully embrace this sport. 8. I enjoy a lot of your posts man. Write a book or something. Seriously. You seem to have a lot of time in this sport and have seen a lot of things. I like reading about them. Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  9. I will tell you one fact to answer your question. No one can know if this sport is for them until they do it. You could be very muscular and tough and not be able to do this, yet the nerdy skinny guy who loves computers and video games could be out there doing 4 ways all the time and loving it. You just have to check it out, and see how you feel about. I'm pretty much that computer nerd guy and I love jumping so... Also don't compare skydiving with rollercoasters, it's pretty much in no way similar. It's nothing like that. It's actually much more comfortable. 10. Really? Would you also stop jumping? Because you would have just done exactly the same thing they did! That's what I was thinking. You did it to. You are each individually responsible for not being altitude aware. You are at fault for the others not being aware that it is time to track away and pull and so is each other person in that dive. 11. That was scary. Someone has some balls! Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  12. It's scary to think of where you might land if an AAD fires and you are not conscious, but your odds of living are still greater. You could land in a field. You might land on top of an antennae, impaling yourself, but the odds of that happening are about as low as an asteroid striking your house. That's what mainly has always bothered me about ever having to use one, thinking I might land on something pretty horrible. But look at the alternative. You know you're going to go splat. There's just no survivability to hitting the ground while tumbling. Personally, I don't have one (mine expired) and yes the "I don't have the money" excuse is a very valid one in my case. 13. Just pull at 4000 ft like me. Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  14. Our of curiousity.. you got your tunnel time for $10/minute? Doesn't it normally cost around $18? I've only flown in one tunnel so I don't know. Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  15. I would yank the hell out of my reserve without even thinking about waving off or turning or doing any of that stuff that's going to get you killed. At that point there isn't much you can do for the others except let them see your "Oh shit!" face and you pulling suddenly. And hope I don't break my back I guess. The ones who said turn, track and pull. Are you insane? Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  16. I've only bought beer once. A single bottle at the Christmas party for one of my "most flown" AFF instructors. I've gotten away with a lot, including my 100th jump with no pie in the face. Suckas. Rodriguez Brother #1614, Muff Brother #4033 Jumped: Twin Otter, Cessna 182, CASA, Helicopter, Caravan
  17. I'm not 100% sure to be honest. I took the FJC two years ago, but I believe we were taught to cut away then arch. Don't quote me on that though. I'm considering possibly sitting in on a FJC as a refresher, for the heck of it. I take any courses/classes I can. I'm taking the packing class again tomorrow, even though I know how to pack, but I've not been packing much the last 5 or 6 months. I was getting tired and started to pack so I could leave last Saturday and tried to pack top, bottom instead of bottom, top. 18. In my opinion, when you first start jumping with a camera you shouldn't be using a ring sight at all. Your attention should be on the dive as normal while getting used to flying with that added object on your head and not looking at it as a camera. Right? And you know, maybe even really look at how you are doing at pull time without a camera first. Make sure you are consistently pulling in the way that you should so you know you don't have any bad habits to get rid of that can cause a problem somewhere down the road and get your neck snapped on opening because of a snag. I may not have the jump numbers to be knowledgeable, but I've put two years into this sport so far and I think hard on this kind of thing and I wish more people would do more than just gear up and go.
