  1. No criticism meant, but I couldn't stop a humorous image coming to mind of a big, bright red and blue people magnet in the landing area. Same thing as that one lonely tree in the middle of a huge empty field that always seems to catch a parachute. I usually set my brakes right after landing too. Zing Lurks
  2. The original Rocketman has gone ... Zing Lurks
  3. Well, since only the first page of six comes up, I can't comment on the entire article, but the writer's opinion, on the first page, that the Cyperes made skydiving safer, but jumpers found a new way to make it dangerous is erroneous. It seems to me, that the writer is concluding that the Cyperes made skydiving so boring to jumpers that it created swooping and hook turn incidents, when clearly it is advances in canopy aerodynamics that has lead to the increased number of landing fatalities and injuries. The writer's logic is flawed. Isn't there a thread or two around here where the swoopers and hook turners don't use an automatic opener because it increases the chance of an accidental deployment at a highly undesireable time? 4. Well, China has been using that type of system to reduce the amount of time inmates are held in custody for quite a while now. Schedule your transplant surgery in a Chinese hospital and an execution will be scheduled too, but it's the inmate's family that pays for the bullet used in the execution. Its a slippery slope. 5. I would want an expert legal opinion on this, but I believe that is a substantial body of legal rulings affirming that District of Columbia residents do not give up their constitutional rights when they become residents of the US seat of government. Any of you lawyers have any info on that? Zing Lurks
  6. I had the opportunity to meet Sullivan at a college speaker's gig where he talked about his various blind adventures in a seeing world. I don't remeber the exact date, but Sullivan talked about wanting to try to fly an aircraft, which he eventually did a few years later. Unfortunately, his flights demonstrated that pilots cannot trust the seat of their pants when there are no visible references. I think AOPA magazine had the article about Sullivan's flying attempts. If I recall, he was unable to maintain straight and level flight and ended up in the dreaded death spiral several times before the safety pilot recovered the aircraft. Kudos to Sullivan and all the others with disabilities that push the limits imposed by life. Zing Lurks
  7. It's darned hard to find this stuff anywhere else, Howard. Keep it coming, please. Zing Lurks
  8. But I'm better looking than Zing. That ain't saying much, my friend. Zing Lurks
  9. Well, its a good catalog with lots of color pictures and stuff, but the products lack the pizazz found in The ParaDeath Black Death Skydiving products catalog. Zing Lurks
  10. This isn't the first time the writers killed Captain America. I'm willing to bet that its a move designed to generate some publicity for the character which will lead to fans demanding the Captains return. He'll back in action before six months goes by. Zing Lurks
  11. There are those to whom your 1200 jumps ain't shit ... and those to whom my 6000 jumps ain't shit. It's all relative, and numbers of jumps don't impress me that much. Zing Lurks
  12. How much money you got? Zing Lurks

  19. I can just imagine the alternative out come of this scenario if we'd been barrel rolling, or checking mirrors, for that matter. Zing Lurks
  20. As long as we're being historical ... many jumpers attend the WFFC at Rantoul, Ill, formerly an Army aviation base and the place where Chas. Lindberg recieved his flight training. The museum located on the airport is well worth the couple dollars it costs to get in. Zing Lurks
  21. Are the same type of statistics for claims/payouts available from USPA from the inception of the insurance program to the year 2006? Zing Lurks
  22. Does anyone have access to USPA's information regarding the number of claims made against that insurance ... and the number of claims that were actually paid? Zing Lurks
  23. I guess I'd rather not be there for what you'd call a "real" aircraft emergency. Zing Lurks
  24. Don't worry about that, Jo. Lot of us here have been accused of being crazy, or worse. You keep digging, and we'll keep trying to help when and where we can. Zing Lurks
  25. Jacuzzi (Geoff Frangos) is alive and flying medivac helicopters somewhere near Parumph. Nevada. According to Jacuzz, the phrase "Sport Death," originated at the infamous Arizona dropzone, the Gulch, not long after the Blue Sky, Black Death folks showed up. Jacuzz told me that the first time he heard the phrase "Sport Death" uttered at a dropzone was one evening at Casa Grande following a showing of the USPA 16 mm movie "This Is A Sport." As the movie ended, Bullit Bob stood up and said, "This is a sport? Wow man, this is Sport Death!" Zing Lurks
