    What are...

I apparently drank three bottles of water in the last hour. This is odd.

    High/Low

Low: I've probably been driving around with 8 pounds or air in my left-front tire for a couple of days now. I thought it was pulling to the left a little. High: Thorough inspection, no leaks in the tire. Filled it back up to 30 pounds and it's held for 6 hours. Probably just hit a pothole or something.

    New Parachutist

It would've opened. I'm terrible at making neat stows, so I've jumped stuff that looks like that a few times.
  4. Something like this, perhaps? That's one persons log, but anybody can create their own. IIRC, somebody else if offering something similar.
  5. Hmmm, this weekend or next weekend? Tough call. I'll have to see how long it takes to get my reserve repacked.
  6. Porn Store Valentine would be a great band name.

    Lindows?

It's built for people don't want to pay for Windows, but aren't capable of using Linux. I tried it out on one of those supercheap Wal-Mart PCs and wasn't really impressed. Edit to add: I'm coming from the perspective of an experienced Linux user who likes to get his hands dirty with the guts of the OS. So I'm probably more than a little biased towards the more hacker-friendly distros. Edited again: Oh yeah, it makes the default user root. That is never good. You and I might know enough to create a non-privileged user for everyday use, but most people won't.
  8. Check the weather... Saturday looks like snow in the Chicago area. Sunday looks a little better. I'd be there, but I'm handing my rig over to Para Gear for a repack on Friday.
  9. If you're 175 pounds without gear, then you and I are built pretty similarly. I only have 65 jumps, so I won't be surprised or upset if you ignore me. That said, I'm jumping a Spectre 170 and it's as small as I feel that I can safely go with my experience. If you really want to try a 150, please try jumping a 170 first. Going from a 1.05:1 wingloading on a 190 to a 1.33:1 wingloading on a 150 is a drastic change. As for the differences between the two... I've jumped a Spectre 170 and Sabre 170. IMHO, the Spectre opens better, flies better, and lands better than the Sabre. The Sabre I was jumping was pretty old rental gear, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the issues I had with it were because of it's age.
  10. Funny quote on West Wing? "Tractor starter fluid won't kill you?" "No, it'll definitely kill you, but you'll get pretty high first."
  11. At 65 jumps, I'll get on any load that will have me. I'm getting better at RW. I've only ever tried to freefly when I got stuck with a solo ("We have one slot, 5 minute call" type things), so I'm not getting very far with that, but I haven't put any real effort into it. I really, really wanna do CReW. I want to try a wingsuit when I have enough jumps.

    Tit-ee bar(NSFW)

I managed to avoid posting something for this long.
  13. Oddly enough, I happened to have that page on Paragear's online catalog open (learning to sew, yippee). They list Zero Porosity Nylon Ripstop Fabric as, "Currently being used on most main canopies. i.e. Sabre, Stiletto, Safire, etc. Combination of 1.1 oz. fabric, zero porosity, highest tear-resistance, and lightest weight fabric (Soar Coat-) type material." IANAR (I am not a rigger), but I would think that as long as the repair was fairly small, a different type of ZP would work acceptably. The bigger issue might be getting a good color match between different brands of fabric.
  14. Find a rigger that owns a sewing machine. Your local DZ should be able to point you in the right direction.
  15. I am not familiar with the program, but if it prevents new browser windows from opening, that would stop you from viewing attachments.

    Question

Depends on the state. Some places, only one party must know that they call is being recorded.

    Boredom

Yeah, torture some virtual people. Build a house with only one wall (you need it to hold a sink, toilet, and shower against). Build a moat around the house, with a diving board on the outside and a ladder on the inside. Then invite the neighbors over.

  19. Anybody know a good rigger in the far north Chicago suburbs (Gurnee / Waukegan area)? I'm trying to get my reserve repacked before the weather gets jumpable again.

    Bad joke du 'jour

A pirate walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Hey, did you know that you have a steering wheel sticking out of your crotch?" The pirate replies, "Arrr, it's drivin' me nuts."
  21. Belly fly manuever, usually done to newbies but fun with anybody. Basically, when the mark isn't expecting it you fly up, get a good grip in their upper body (arm grippers, shoulder straps, hair), then drop out fast so that you drag them into a front loop. Oh yeah, 0:0:0. Movin' out of the dorms, a lot to do, damn cold anyway.
  22. Skydive News It's a web site that I put together over the last couple of days. It scrapes Google News for skydiving stories and merges them into one page. Updates every 15 minutes. Has a FAQ. If you see any errors or have suggestions, send me an email or a PM. Bonus points for coming up with a better name for the page. The whole thing is really just a demo to test a PHP module that I wrote, but I'll leave it running unless it starts to eat into my bandwidth limit. P.S. - Currently there are 160 stories in the database. The sixth hit is DiverDriver's article about the 300-way from this site.
  23. A somewhat easier solution is to put your email address in an image. It won't be clickable (so not recommend for a business site), but it won't get harvested.
