  1. I've been personally responsible for a duffel bag with $20,000+ in cash in it. (Yes, this was for a legitimate job)
  2. From a 1.41 up by the Wisconsin state line on Sunday night, 1.52 by my house yesterday, and 1.85 in downtown Chicago today.
  3. 0:0:0 Weather and school work. Eh.

    ATV Skydive

Strong Enterprises has a system like that (website seems to be down right now).
  5. Yeah, the float plane is only available after you beat the leaflet dropping mission.
  6. I don't have a will. I have no dependents, a fairly insignificant amount of assets, and no long term obligations other than about $8,000 worth of student loans. No point, really.
  7. You live in the US, so you will almost certainly want NTSC format videos. PAL is used in Europe and some other places. The price is higher for PAL because it is the less popular format, so production is lower, which leads to higher unit prices.
  8. On Linux, you probably want to check out a piece of software called transcode. There might be something in the examples section of the website that covers NTSC/PAL conversion already. If not, I bet they'd tell you if you asked nicely on the mailing list. Please note that I am assuming that you already have a way to get raw DV onto your computer and back out to you camera while running Linux. If you don't, poke around here. Doing anything with video and/or firewire under Linux is still fairly tricky. Proceed with reckless abandon.
  9. Not only that, but a lot of places with extremely low prices sell "grey market" cameras that were originally for sale in Japan. This means: You might not get any English instructions. If you even get any accessories, they may not work in the US (battery chargers, etc.) With Sony products, the warranty is only good in the country where the unit was packaged for sale, so you will not be covered if the camera breaks There's probably more that I don't remember right now.
  10. I will not buy anything from those guys. Here is why. On the other hand....
  11. I can get into a matinee at my local multiplex for like $4.50 with my student ID. Otherwise I can pay $4 any time at the second-run theater down the road, if I'm willing to wait a couple of weeks.
  12. This will update you to the latest version of Nero 5.5 (assuming that you already have some version of 5.5 installed). If you want to upgrade to Nero 6, you're gonna have to pay.
  13. The average skydive lasts longer than 1 minute and 55 seconds?
  14. Now now, the Snopes article doesn't say anything about the picture being photoshopped. It just isn't a hurricane.
  15. 0:4:0 Two way sit with a heavy guy. We were tight out of the door (unlinked exit), then he was goooooone. A hop 'n pop. A CRW jump, 5 docks, including one totally smooth one by me (best of the weekend, right there). A 3 way headdown. Totally dangerous, totally fast. Edit to add: Totally.
  16. In Outlook Express, or most any other mail program for that matter, ou can set your "From" or "Reply To" address to absolutely anything you want. Unfortunately, you cannot the access mail that you receive at your dz.com email from inside that program, because HH only provides the web interface, whereas OE requires either a POP or IMAP connection.
  17. Like with many other free email services, you can't.
  18. He answered the part of the question that doesn't require any knowledge specific to AS400. It makes perfect sense to me (8+ years programming). On the other hand, some of your answers to computer related questions in different threads have been, umm, dubious at best.
  19. Did the form that you turned in have a diagram on it, or was it just a list like: 1. Blackberry 2. Lime 3. Blackberry etc... If there was a diagram on the form that you submitted that showed how the cells were numbered, then I think the dealer should have figured it out. If there wasn't, then I think you screwed up and need to deal with it.

    No WMD report

Ff the Nazis had managed to invade the US and depose our government, they would have found Los Alamos pretty quickly.
  21. [dissenting opinion] Screw the diamond. The tradition of buying expensive diamond rings for engagements was invented by DeBeers in the late 30s. Read more here (it's a good article, even if you don't agree with me). [/dissent]

    No WMD report

Please also hide the simulated laboratories, the simulated detritus of a military bureaucracy (memos, emails, etc.), and a couple hundred simulated scientists who have nothing to lose by spilling their guts. The weapons themselves could be made hard to find, but the infrastructure required to make them is a bit more difficult to sweep under the rug. I don't know if there are WMDs in Sweden (they claim that there aren't any), but does that mean that the Swedes deserve an invasion?
  23. In the "Changing with the Times" article in the September issue of Parachutist, there is an explanation of the changes in ratings requirements, among other things. Maybe I'm just dense, but I can't find anywhere in the article or on the USPA website that comes right out and says when the changes go into effect. The three possibilities that I can see are: - Immediately: The article says things like "Now, it requires only a B license..." - September 30th: When the license requirements change. - 2004: When the revised manuals come out Anybody know for sure?
  24. Quade, Do you have a measurement of the width of the TRV-22 box? From the pictures I've seen, it looks very, very wide (I'm guessing at least 3.75 inches?). That's 3/4s of an inch wider than the widest PC-style box. Also, would you be concerned about using a bracket instead of a box? That'll save me some width, and it seems to work pretty well with PC-style cameras. I'm a little worried, though, because the lense on the TRV-19/22/33 is mounted way on the left side of the camera body, and I'm afraid it will be a lot easier for a wayward riser to rip a wide angle lense off. And yes, I have considered a top mount, but my main use for the camera is going to be inside video of RW jumps (famous last words, I know), and I'm worried about slamming it into the door when I'm a diver. Any comments? Also, how much height do you think I'd be adding to my freefly helmet if I do decide to bolt that thing on top?
  25. The Casa headed off to it's next stop this morning. No record this year.
