The "copy shortcut" link depends on the Javascript execCommand() function, which is only support in Internet Explorer, versions 4.0 and newer. Those of us who use Mozilla (myself included) are out of luck. It appears that the forum software just doesn't display the link to non-IE users in order to prevent confusion.

Huh. Just saw it out of the corner of my eye. Blue and red, big flash-looking thing on the helmet.

Holy shit, I think I just saw Deuce.

A fairly common problem with newer skydivers is a lack of middle ground in fall rate control. Either they are arching their hearts out and going really fast, or hugging the beachball and going really slow. They are flying at the extreme slow and fast ends of their range, but need to practice being able to fly at any speed over the whole range. A useful drill dive: Do a two way with a decent belly flyer. You both face off, undocked. He floats up and stops. You float up and stop when you are on level. He goes down, you go down. The goal is to smoothly adjust your fallrate and stop on level. Don't even bother trying to dock. You only need to be close enough to tell if you are level.

0:3:2 Did my 200th jump. Also did my first reverse cross country: a clear and pull from 10,500 right over the DZ, then we flew downwind until we ran out of altitude. We landed 13 miles from the DZ Edit: I just ran the numbers myself. We went from about 42.72697W 88.14993S to 42.79964W 88.37119E. That's about 12.3 miles. Still not bad. The tailwind gave us an effective glide ratio of about 6.36:1. Edit again: Now with a map. Because making maps is more fun than doing homework.

He wrecked his motorcycle on the way to Lake Wales for the CF record attempts. There is more info in the CRW forum.

I've only done three jumps since the week before Halloween. Believe me, it isn't for lack of trying. I've been one jump shy of 200 for three weeks now. Oh well, tommorrow should be jumpable.

The same people who own skydivecharleston.com also own a bunch of sites connected to 1-800-Skyride. Skyride is in turn connected to ASC. Skyride also has been known to create "invisible dropzones" that are really just ASC. So, yeah, I'd put money on Skydive Charleston and ASC being the same thing. Mmm, clicky info Edit: Whoops, wasn't replying to anyone in particular. My mistake.

Nope. It could be coming from anybody who has you in their address book, even if the two of you have never corresponded via email. The good news is that it is probably already over. If not, it will probably stop in the next few days.
-
I'm reading it as the sent messages came from the mail server. In that case, they didn't have to originate from her computer.

It's not even necessary for Michele to have a virus. She only needs to be in the address book of somebody who does. If that's the case, there really isn't anything Michele can do about it.
-
Also, change your email password. There is a chance that somebody is sending email using your email address. Changing your password might not stop it, but it's worth a shot. If bounced messages keep coming back despite your best efforts, alert your ISP.

It doesn't make much sense at all to me. Other than make my opinion known and vote for my candidate when the next election comes around, what am I supposed to do? Draft comprehensive legislation to turn the economy around, stabilize the Middle East, end terrorism, and bolster the economy? I don't think so. Write my elected representatives? More people will read my opinion here. If you or JoeyRamone has any great ideas, I'd love to hear them.

So you want GWB to succeed, because he wants exactly what you want. I too am I liberal who wants the same things as Bo. Does that mean I want GWB to succeed? Sure. Does that mean I want GWB to be President? Absolutely not. I don't like Bush. Does that mean that I want him to screw up the country just so a Democrat can be in office? Hell no.

I found out that dipping white turkey meat in melted butter with a little bit of pepper tastes fantastic. The 7 heart attacks I had between grace and clearing the table were somewhat less fantastic.

I was flipping through the old Parachutists at the DZ a while back and I found an article from not to long before Good Stuff came out ('98, maybe?) that had a story about how the guy in the video (Jaime Paul?) did it. He kept quiet on the exact details since it's a trade secret, but did say that it was hoisted up into the canopy after deployment and was rigged so that the lines and trigger cable (for when a still camera was used) would appear to be normal suspension lines.

The Etherlink box will do NAT and routing. The Linux/whatever box will do the HTTP proxy. He already has routing hardware that works and is more than adequate for the situation and much easier to configure than the Linux solutions that I've used in the past. Why not use it?

Squid has porn blacklists. Updates to blacklists are less reliable with freebies like this because, well, money is a great motivator and these guys aren't getting any. But hey, it costs a whole lot less than something like Websense. What I'd do: Keep the Etherfast for doing NAT. Run the users into a 10/100 switch and uplink it to the Etherfast. Give the proxy a static IP and put it on the switch too. Configure the swtich to block outbound HTTP traffic, except for from the proxy. Get familiar with Squid's ACL system and build an access control system to suit my specific needs.
-
Do you want a router, or do you want a proxy? There is a significant difference. You can configure Linux or FreeBSD to act as a router doing NAT for Internet connection sharing. You can use a program like Squid to set up a web proxy. If you want a router instead of a proxy, your best bet is to buy a ready built solution from Linksys or Netgear. They're small, they're easy to use, and you can get one that's plenty good for home use for under $100. And if you are sharing broadband, unless you have tons of users, there isn't really a great reason to spend the time and effort setting up a proxy. OTOH, if you are sharing a slower connection like ISDN or dialup, then a combination of a proxy and a router can help you more efficiently utilize your available bandwidth. Edit: Spelling... and d'oh, didn't notice the flurry of posting while I was writing all of this.

The word on the rumors sites is that Longhorn is just like most other alpha software: Not especially usable or stable, but all of the basic stuff is there. Last I heard they were rewriting the filesystem from scratch and it'll have some cool BeOS-type functionality (i.e., every file is a row in a database with customizable fields; mmm, metadata). Then again, I've been using an alpha-release bootloader for years with zero problems.

Heh... it says "ass"... heh...

Absolutely agree. I work for a small IT shop that also happens to be a Compaq authorized repair center. The home models suck (especially pre-merger Compaqs) but the prosumer and corporate models are an absolute breeze to maintain from the hardware standpoint, and are no different than any other Wintel computer from the software end of things. Fortunately we only handle corporate gear unless we are doing someone a favor. Hint for prospective buyers: Regardless of brand, the super-mini cases are the worst. There really isn't a practical way to build a tiny yet easily maintainable computer out of standardized parts. Kinda like subcompact cars.

I built one of those a while back. I found that with my "bug eye" style goggles I had a hard time seeing it in a sit, and couldn't see at all on my belly.
