Yep. I remember specifically that selling the daughter, playing football, and working on the Sabbath were mentioned. Great show, by the way. -- Brian

According to the spam I get, I am in debt, gay, and I have a thing for "HOT HOT HOT WET WET WET ASIAN SLUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I am also apparently looking for great deals on guitars, Viagra, and toner for the laser printer that I don't own. -- Brian

After backing up the database (shit happens) try running the command "REPAIR TABLE tbl1". I would suggest using the mySQL command shell instead of PHP to run the query because you will probably get more verbose messages. If you don't know how to use it, either myself or one of the other geeks around here can walk you through it. -- Brian

Structural? Do they know how long it's going to take to fix? And what's this I hear about an MD-80 "sharing" the airspace over Vandalia? -- Brian

Howzabout a trebuchet? -- Brian

20 minutes late for work as I type this:0:0. No jumping next weekend either. BUT, June 8th is "A License Day." If the weather is good and a plane is running, I'll be down at Archway that Friday afternoon. Otherwise I'll be down Friday night to camp out for the packing class on Saturday. -- Brian

The Chicagoland area only has 4 locations with DLP projectors, and they are all as far from me as possible. OTH, that probably means that there is one somewhere near Tomas... -- Brian

I'm not big on posting links to funnies, but I just watched this short film on the Image Union (Chicago PBS show) Star Wars special and it was hilarious. If you've ever seen the film that it is spoofing, Glengarry Glen Ross, you will love it even more. The original is about high-pressure sales and salesmen. This one is about high-pressure bounty hunting and bounty hunters. iFilm has it here: Glengarry Glen Darth "Frogs are for closers!" -- Brian

The only real problem I have with PHP (so far) is that the object orientation is weak. All methods and instance variables are public. Encapsulation is, IMHO, one of the most important features of OOP. I can do things like put in an underscore as the first character in the name of vars and methods that I want "private" and comment it so that my users know that. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop them from screwing with the internals of my objects if they want to. Other than that, PHP rocks my world. Not as fast as mod_perl or compiled code, but plenty fast for any site I will be working on in the foreseeable future. -- Brian

If you don't want to do a whole lot of work, check out OSWD. The have tons (hundreds) of "starting points" to choose from. Most of them aren't perfect, but they take care of the dirty work and you can tweak the colors and layout for a custom design. I use one of their templates on my crappy site. Just try clicking in the links. -- Brian

"You need the lastest version of Shockwave." Bastards. I do have the latest version of Shockwave. Anybody have a direct link to the game? -- Brian

A teradactyl is a flying dinosaur. A Paradactyl is a funky canopy. If you happen to have a copy of the Skydiver's Handbook there is a picture of it in there page 271. Wendy Faulkner also has pictures of one on her site, here and here. -- Brian

There is video of some guys doing it. They connected themselves with a bungee, exited the plane, then one guy pulled. You can see where this is going. There was an accident. The cord snapped. One of them (low man on the cord?) was seriously injured. I've seen the footage on Real TV and similar shows a few times. I also wouldn't be surprised if pilotdave had a copy on his server. -- Brian

Archway gives Illini jumpers a decent discount on student jumps and tandems. The margins are too thin to give a discount to licensed jumpers. The free beer is not a gift from those who pay and never come back, because it would be naughty to spend club funds on alcohol. The club takes SL students and tandems almost every weekend when the weather is decent, although I don't think anybody keeps an exact tally (hint, Marc, hint). This year we only had two new jumpers who started in the fall still going at the end of the spring semester (JumpinJohn and myself). The group of regulars consists about 6 people, including one person who graduated but just keeps showing up all of the time. -- Brian

The gods are conspiring against this geeky nerd in order to keep him out of the theater. I was supposed to go the The New Guy at 7 PM on Wednesday, hang out for a few hours, then see the AOTC premiere. Well, I got home from work and there was this ominous note from the 'rents, so I figured I could miss the first film (wasn't looking forward to it anyway) and see what was up. By the time I had things cleared up it was 9:30 PM, so I was going to call one of my buddies, find out where everybody was, and meet up with them. Turns out the batteries had fallen out of my Palm Pilot sometime during the day. I hadn't called any of them in months because I was away at school so I didn't remember the numbers, and my Dad had uninstalled the Palm software on the computer. My numbers, all gone. Besides that, I haven't been inside a movie theater since I saw Doctor Doolittle II (not worth the effort of sneaking in), and before that it was Castaway. -- Brian

I haven't been involved in the presentation yet, but I sat through a Falling Illini presentation last fall. The guys in front of me lost interest when they found out that they wouldn't be tearing it up on a skyboard in the near future. Fortunately, a ton of people paid the membership fee and never came back, so it was basically free money for the rest of the club! -- Brian

Now: Old gym shorts, ratty Coke t-shirt. Soon: Work clothes - khakis, blue button up shirt, name tag, carabiner with massive key ring. -- Brian

I prefer a well-disguised goatse link myself. (If you don't know what goatse is, pretty please don't ask. I don't want to subject anybody to that.) -- Brian

16 hours of sleep last night: 2 if you count Wednesday: Probably still owe for something, but nothing new. I'm now living somewhere between four and five hours from my home DZ. I'll probably be back and not current on June 8th to (finally) wrap up my A license. -- Brian

Hehe. When my dad was in high school he knew a guy who was fooling around in the shower with his girlfriend when she slipped, taking both of them through the glass shower door. They had to go to the hospital with cuts all over the place. Then this guy had to go home and explain to his parents what happened. He might have gotten away with it, but in a small-ish town word gets around fast. -- Brian

It seems like I'm always pimping these guys on the forums, but SportRX makes really nice prescription goggles. I've only put about 20 jumps on mine, but they work great. I've seen a few jumpers wearing a fullface with the lense off and goggles. Might be a solution. -- Brian

They were doing "Wild on Georgia!"? Doesn't really seem like enough bikini opportunities to justify that. -- Brian

Not that I looked into this or anything, but they usually put a camera in a duffel bag or one of those carry-on sized pieces of luggage with wheels and a handle. Then they go somewhere where somebody standing right behind them won't be so obvious, like in line to check out somewhere, or an escalator, or just a busy mall. And now that everybody thinks I run around taking pictures and sending spam for "HOT! HOT! HOT UPSKIRT ACTION!" websites, I'm off. -- Brian

Something cool to do with the skydiving equipment.

I think that's an Adam Sandler song. He was pretty funny when I was in middle school. -- Brian -

I think the url is http://www.headdown.net/archive/movies/cuttaisforbogs.mpeg. The picture showed 4 cars side-by-side. It's a 30 meg file and I'm only getting 9.8k/sec on ResNet. Something ain't right. -- Brian
