    WFFC Bands

I second Mike & Joe. When I saw them they were doing mostly covers and sounded great, but I hear that they do their own stuff too. -- Brian
  3. See also the May 2002 issue of Parachutist, specifically the letter to the editor labelled "The Science of Swoop." -- Brian
  4. Update: I caved. The phone is in my hot little hands, and I just ordered $40 worth of accessories because the faceplate that it comes with is butt-ugly and I want a hands free doohickey. -- Brian
  5. 50/50 (odds of me caving in to my boss and buying a cell phone):0:0. Very weak indeed. My sister graduated from high school yesterday and the family had a party for her today, so that was cool. Lots of relatives that I haven't seen in a long time. They were quite impressed by my 5 second delay video and my cousins watched most of Good Stuff. Next weekend I will hopefully get down to Archway and finish off this A license. All I have to do is convince my sister that she doesn't need to drive anywhere on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Or one of you nice people could give me a ride... -- Brian
  6. Hopefully next weekend I'll be at Archway With a fresh A, I'll finally be able to play That is all. -- Brian

    Oh really? How?

I know this is a troll, but I can't help myself. How about running businesses and contributing to our economy? Existing (and succeeding) in every role in society? Reading this, I have a feeling that you have never met a person of middle-eastern descent. This attitude worries me more than terrorism. -- Brian
  8. Firewire is a very fast way to transfer data. Digital video cameras use it to transfer video in realtime from the camera to a storage device (such as a computer). If you already have the video in your computer, you will not need a firewire card. Was your "borrowed" copy installed from original media? I'd try reinstalling from an original disk, not a cracked installer or a burned ISO. Also check the About box in the program to make sure that you have a full version and not a trial or timedemo. If that doesn't work, try hitting Premier-related message boards asking for help (don't expect much help if they think you are using a pirated copy). Maybe buy a book from Amazon. -- Brian

    Nuclear war

I'm sorry. I can't help myself. For some reason, at 1 AM, hopped up on caffeine, I find this terribly amusing. -- Brian
  10. Parade. Rain. -- Brian
  11. Quoting Slashdot: Just thought the video crowd would be interested. No more name confusion ("I don't have a Firewire port, but I have this i.Link thing"). Hopefully this means that Firewire usage will pick up since everybody will finally be able to (legally) call it by the same name. Oh yeah, and GigaWire is rumored to be this years "big surprise" at MacWorld. 3.2 Gb/s video transfer anybody? -- Brian
  12. Just in case anybody is interested: CanopyCudler (Tina) is in the red jumpsuit. Her rig looks awesome up close, too. FallinWoman (Anne) is in the blue/black/green Mirage at the top of the first picture. Jablen (Joe) has the suit with the white arms and teal grippers. I recognize the other jumpsuits, but I have no idea who the hell hey are right now. -- Brian
  13. I get this when I try to read any gear review: Unknown Tag: 'title_linked' Unknown Tag: 'Title' REVIEW_NORESULTS -- Brian
  14. If you have time to download it, check out this movie: ftp://ftp.skydivingmovies.com/public/misc/jumpinduo_potatochip_brandon.avi -- Brian
  15. Limited canopy experience speaking, but if you are flaring at the point where you have to "yank the shit out of those toggles" and run out the landing then you might be doing something wrong. I've gotten nothing but nice landings on lightly loaded Skymasters (.65:1 and .8:1 or so) with a smooth one stage flare. I may have to take a step or two in light winds but if I'm running it means I screwed something up, either by taking a downwinder (oops), flaring high and letting up on the toggles (double oops), not finishing the flare (triple oops), or flaring late and jamming the toggles. -- Brian
  16. it's humps:jumps:beer, but a bunch of us are switching humps out for some other quantity (mostly, I think, because we aren't getting laid). -- Brian
  17. 61 hours at work this week:0:0. Sigh. But that's 61 hours of rig money, so I shouldn't complain. -- Brian
  18. The PISA ad in the latest Parachutist lists pisakzn@icon.co.za -- Brian
  19. I have no license, and I live four and a half hours from my home DZ. But, I just clocked out at 55 hours for the week, plus seven tommorrow, equals rig money. And I'll be down to Archway to get the A less than two weeks now. I can hold out. I just have to keep telling myself that. -- Brian
  20. Dude! I thought everybody knew that each decal adds 5 to 10 horsepower! Once you add in the boost from your giant muffler (remember, noise equals power), you'll see why you need that spoiler. -- Brian
  21. Don't forget to figure a whole bunch of decals, a giant new muffler, a neon lighting kit, low profile tires, a hood scoop, and a huge spoiler into your budget. -- Brian
  22. You don't need a video capture card specifically, but a Firewire card. i.Link, Firewire, and IEEE 1394 are all the same thing. The first two names are property of Sony and Apple, respectively (If I recall correctly), and the IEEE # is the international standards number. Any reasonably stocked electronics store should have Firewire cards. The ones I have installed at work (never used 'em beyond testing) were all PCI and a cinch to install. While you are at it, I would suggest picking up a second hard drive just for your video work. 6.12 gigs just ain't enough for full motion video. 60 gig drives can be had for under $100 on pricewatch.com, with shipping. Larger drives are more expensive, but the bigger the drive, the smaller the dollars:megabytes ratio. I can't comment on editing software beyond iMovie, which comes (came?) with DV iMacs. -- Brian
  23. I work for a company that, among other things, sells virtual reality games. The virtual reality centers are located in theme parks across the country. So basically I assistant manage one of these things. Since we are perpetually understaffed I usually end up on the sales floor trying to set an example for the employees. Occasionally we have enough people that I get to manage, which basically entails fixing the games, doing paperwork, teaching my employees how to sell better, searching for reasons to fire the shift manager, sitting in the cafeteria, and wandering the park talking to my friends. -- Brian
  24. '96 Dodge Stratus. It goes when I hit the gas, and it's more fuel effiecient that the old Suburban. That thing had tons of room (seated 8, six comfortably, 4 very comfortably!) but filling that 42 gallon gas tank was a bear. Now I want my Suburban back, gas be damned. -- Brian
