I love skydiving A LOT, how much do you love it?
Kynan1 replied to daniel52587's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
More than you man, more than you! haha No doubt, it's a blast and this is just the beginning. I look forward to jumping all week like many, remember my last skydive and how it feels to fly your body. I finally got the feeling of a good head down for about 10 seconds on my last jump, it rocked. I enjoy doing other things as well, but nothing as much as jumping. It owns me! -
Everyone should rock it like me. I have a PD 280 and wingloading at a sick .92! People at my DZ are in absolute awe when I come swooping in. Damn, I'm good! Only have 82 jumps too. Basically, reinventing the sport as I go.

Jay Stokes makes 641 jumps in 24 Hours? How?
Kynan1 replied to Psychoz's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm calling bullshit. He probably did 10 skydives and just paid 15 people to verify the story. -
Agreed. I may think I wouldn't pay attention to the filming, but who knows, I could think I'm the Speilberg of the Sky, then splat!!
-
I'm actually picking up that helmet Saturday. I'm sure the DZ owner will laugh at me when I tell him I'm jumping with it after 100 jumps. I may wait to mount a picture camera on there though. That bit in my mouth would be a little distracting. I may forget to pull entirely.

I told you I'd give a hand bro. Just give me a call and swing by...hahah

I think the difference of 100 jumps to 200 jumps, isn't going to make you any better at dealing with a camera malfunction. You may fly better, but tossing your helmet off in the event of a line catching won't improve after even 500 jumps. If you're comfortable in the air after 70 jumps, why not fly with a camera? If you aren't trying to film a group or get that "money shot", I think it's ok. If you are filming and act as a real camera man, I think 200 jumps is a good recommendation. All of this is opinion of course because who's to say what is or isn't better? Imagine if you told Jordan to wait 400 games before driving to the hoop. In short, not everyone is on the same level, so I don't think numbers should reflect that. Kind of like waiting 200 jumps to sitfly. I disagree on that one as well. I do respect peoples opinions though, but they are just that, opinions.

I spent a week at the bunkhouse and jumped my ass off. Met a ton of good people and feel like I learned along the way. I'm new to the sport, so this was my first ever full week of jumping. Every person I met, was pretty cool. The packers were quick and got me right back up, the staff at Square One was extremely helpful, guys at the Bunkhouse were chill. If it didn't cost money to jump, I'd still be there. Looking forward to my next trip back. Note: If you have the chance, go to "Food For Less". The oddest supermarket I've ever been too. Have to love the huge liquor section right by the register...ghetto!hahah

I've never stayed in one of these places. What does everyone do about keeping their rig safe? Can you store it in the main building?

Looks like some great footage, but something about that music leaves me very...blah. Granted, it's an intro and music is up to the editor, but I think a quicker edit with some different tracks could make that footage shine more. I wish I had that footage to edit.

Do we have to give free photos and videos???
Kynan1 replied to davidpanal's topic in Photography and Video
You forgot the cost of your car to drive you to the dropzone and your rig which is $5000..haha True though, the camera, cartridges run @$13, printer, computer, bootleg software, knowledge of editing(for a good edit anyway), and so on. On second though, charge them $50 for each picture taken. It really comes down to who you're shooting and if you don't mind giving your services for nothing. Pretty much like this girl I met last week. Didn't cost a cent. -

Kynan1 replied to davidpanal's topic in Photography and Video
Cool. Let me know when you're going to start charging, then we'll do a bunch of jumps before then. Agreed though. What I would do with photos is, print out a contact sheet, or send them one, then have them chose a few, print them out 4x6 or 8x10, plus give them the high res image for a fee. Make it a package, so it allows you to charge more. Like $12 for the high res image and 8x10 print. The paper/ink should only cost about $1.50, then email the high res image or put it on a CD for 25 cents. When you're done, we can put up a lemonade stand outside of the hangar. Mo money, mo money! -
I think each person is different and who gives the advice, it's really all opinion. Why not wait 1000 jumps before filming? There's no doubt you want to be comfortable in the air and have good judgement. However, I don't think a difference of 200 jumps will allow you to handle a line malfunction on your camera any better. Plus, if you are just jumping to jump and not concerned with getting the award winning shot, then I think even waiting until 200 is a bit high. Good camera work on the other hand, could take very many jumps. Spoken like a true noob.

Your printer is going to make a difference as well. Including the number of ink cartridges it uses and the droplet size. Any printer today though, is going to give you a good result. Just keep the resolution no lower than 300 on the file. Print at max quality.

How many jumps for skydiving respect?
Kynan1 replied to llkenziell's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have 39 jumps now after a few months of jumping and I've basically done solo freeflying. Sitflying wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, standing with your arms out was pretty simple, but I think the challenge in skydiving will come with flying relative to somebody else. I know guys who have a few hundred jumps scattered and can barely sitfly or another who has about 100 jumps and is all over the place in the air trying to sitfly...point being, I think it depends on the person. I have respect for everyone who jumps and enjoy learning from anyone who is willing to talk. Progressing in anything requires and open mind and the more you learn, the more you realize you don't know. Jumping rocks and I'm happy to have found such a great thing. Blue skies. -
People need to relax on the wallpaper in the background and the country cheese music. A website should be easy to browse. It made me cringe. However, I may get something through him. Maybe I'll redo his website in exchange for a chute. After getting past the wallpaper and scrolling words on the site, they seem to have a good amount of items I'm interested in. I will probably call him tomorrow. If it goes well, I'll let everyone know about it.

I'm looking to get a used rig for under $1500. I'm 5' 7 222lbs. Looking for nothing smaller than a 210. I know this site has used rigs, but I've found nothing so far. Any ideas on where I can pick one up? Maybe a dropzone getting rid of something or a person you know? Thanks in advance. Kynan

I'm currently renting the student parachute, a 288 Manta. Is there any danger in freeflying with this? If not, what is a helpful tip for flying upside down? I've managed to fly standing up with my arms out on my 16th jump, it rocks!
-
I have 19 jumps and it seems like each one is more fun. Is there ever a point in which you feel bored with jumping or get no rush?
-
Yeah, I did my first solo a week ago and 7 since. This sport is mad addicting. I was able to stand up in the air with my arms out, while slowly doing a 360. There is nothing like it and can't wait to try some more things in the air. Congrats!

Brad (the owner) was friendly and gave me confidence in the jump. Made sure I was fully prepared, before hucking me out of the plane..haha. Even after a long day, he took the time to go over exactly what went right and not so right for my first solo jump. This is someone who cares about what he does and about the his clientel. If the place were twice the price and distance, I would choose Mesquite over Vegas Extreme Skydiving. No comparison! This was probably the best place I've done business with in years. I look forward to continuing my AFF course at Mesquite. You also get a price break, which doesn't hurt. Thanks for everything!

I asked if there was a discount for jumping twice in one day. The owner said, "It is $200 for your first and $150 for the second jump." Upon arriving the next day, he backtracked and said, "It isn't worth it for him to charge $150 on the 2nd jump because he wouldn't profit enough." This was no more than 24 hours of getting off the phone with him. What a shady bastard. I was amped to jump, so I did one. I don't think I'll be continuing the course there though because the guy sucks. Me and my friend will most likely go somewhere else. He lost about $3000 for being an assclown. It's too bad because they are close to me, but I'll drive another 50 miles to avoid being bullshitted. Skydiving rocks though! Looking forward to getting certified.
