I've listening 2 times to music under canopy and it was awesome. While I do understand all the risk that you guys talked about I think that under certain circumstances it may be OK to do so. Let me explain this better. I'm from a small Cessna dropzone. Most of the time I'm the only one dumping at 5500 feet while the others are opening at 3000. I jump BIG ones NAV-300 NAV-260 and I usually exit last (4-ways before me, etc). A couple of times after we did a radio check my friends from the ground would play some music that they knew I enjoyed in my radio. I use to have time for one song before beginning my pattern. I really, really loved it! Also, lots of times during my ride to altitude some of my instructors from the ground were singing songs into the radio. Yes, really lame songs interpreted way too serious by untalented voices who sang off-key. And not just one song, a couple of them. I've loved it a lot. We use to share my helmet just to have a good laugh in the air. I know that is not the same thing as listening to your iPod for the canopy ride but is still music under the canopy. There is a story at my dz about something like that back in the day when ADD were not used. It was level 2 or 3 with 2 instructors. The Instructors forget to put their weights on and got separated from the student who was very stable.They track away from the student, clearing the air, expecting for the deployment. One of them is still keeping an eye on the student because he wanted to open at almost the same altitude as the student to guide him out of the strong high winds. 5 sec. pass and nothing happens. One instructor starts to believe that the student is frozen. Sit flies his way down to the student for a dock and deploy. Student at 5-6000 waive off and dumps his PC. Instructor doesn't have enough time to track away and they end up in collision. Student cuts away from a spiralling main while badly injured and deploys reserve but the instructors deploys nothing and goes in. I did almost the same thing as you on level 1. I forget to do the check in. Everything went perfect after except the exit. They give me the chance to fail or pass myself. I chose to repeat the jump but they said that I've learnt my lesson and ask for beers instead. It was a sweet deal if you ask me. Cheers, d123. Once around my 6th jump I had my leg straps way to lose ... it feels weird to have the chest strap into the chin, the container right in back of your head, pushing your head forward in such a way that it makes it difficult for you to check the canopy only by rotating the head up. You need to rotate it to the left or right and then up. Obviously, I've tried without any success to rotate the head up 3 or 4 times before looking for an alternative method. All that freaky stuff because I said to myself: hmm ... the leg straps are to tight, let me cut them lose a bit. How bad can it be? After that I've asked one of my instructors if I can feel the pressure of his leg strap and now I'm reproducing the same pressure whenever I fasten my leg straps.

I just want to pay my respects. I personally think he was a hero. BSBD. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
