OK, so maybe I'm not in the good forum, if so I'll ask the moderators to pardon my mistake and to move the thread to a more proper forum. My dilemma it is related to canopy control but not in a direct way! Recently I've begin to do some kite boarding and I found this movie. The part that I want to address is beginning at 2:37 and it's ending at 3:24. The kite-wing is oriented upwind and he has more than 30 sec of flight. I don't know how strong was the wind but it can't be more than 30 km/h (18mph) (I'm thinking it's probably less). He is flying an old Sabre (strange name coincidence) Kite made by Flexyfoil. The Sabre kite has been removed from the current line of products and has been replaced by Sabre2. The biggest size for Sabre is 12 sq m (129 sq ft.) so I'm guessing that he is not ridding the thermals especially since the sabre is curved a lot and the area exposed to thermals is smaller than 12 m. Can someone bring some light regarding the flying sequence? How come the wing doesn't lose horizontal speed due to drag when he is flying it for more than 30 sec in full breaks and how come he doesn't descent as fast as we do with a parachute of that size? It seams that he has a strange and amazing Glide Ratio! Can we do that with a canopy or can we do a canopy that can do that? Am I right to think that after he gets airborne the wind speed has nothing to do with the descent rate only with the horizontal speed relative to the ground? Jean-Arthur Deda. P.S.
