  1. Can you be a little more specific than just south? Do you have a certain state/region in mind, or are you going JUST for the coaching and nothing else? There are many freefly schools in Florida(and the weather rocks in Feb), there are a few in SoCal(pretty damn good weather there, too), and as Phree stated, some in Texas.. Texas doesn't seem to get the consistant weather, though.. Ya know, ice storms can ruin a good jumping weekend.. Mike
  2. I must admit.....pretty damn interesting pics.. Well, at least the two midget ones.. The other one I wasn't sure about.. So, who is the tuna, anyways? Mike
  3. Holy shnikees! I didn't think the Dornier 28 really existed.. I heard the 'ole stories, but didn't think there were many produced - and never thought there would be any still flying.. It's quite the interesting plane, actually.. Originally designed as a light military transport overseas.. Twin engine taildragger(as you can see by the pics) with, I believe, 290hp a side.. Somewhere around a 6,000lb max takeoff weight, maybe a bit less.. The Skydive Colombia website says it will haul 11 jumpers - but I think that's pretty optimistic.. I'd plan 8-9.. Overall, I'm going to say it's not a fast climber - but the jumprun will probably be close to caravan speeds.. Mike

    Deland?!

Cool.. Who did you talk to about the canopy control thing? There are a few of the guys there that do it.. I'll head out on the 15th and/or 16th, but I'll be working the 14th.. Who else is gonna show? Andrea? Marc? McFly? Mike
  5. That's Hank the Angry Drunken Dwarf.. Mike
  6. Which model? You're missing a number there.. I assume 228, because I have never seen a 328 as a jump plane.. Actually, I've never seen a 228 as a jump plane, but it's doable.. Not necessarily a fast plane - depends on the engines.. Jumpruns will be pretty fast.. Mike
  7. My friend quit jumping as soon as she found out she was pregnant.. She didn't want to chance a miscarriage.. The doc said it was a good possibility if she had a hard opening or landing.. Mike
  8. AHA! An AFFJM course at my home DZ in Nov....I'M THERE! Mike
  9. Uh, oh....I'm buste.......wait a sec, this was in Perris right? Nope, not me.. Mike
  10. Does that mean you're asking him out? Mike
  11. IMO, anybody under 18 should not be allowed to jump UNLESS one or both parents are experienced jumpers, and understand all the risks.. Even then - there should be a minimum age.. I would take my 10 year old niece on a tandem, but I wouldn't take my 5 year old niece.. It's kind of a moot point anyways, since their mother wouldn't ever consider it anyways.. I think that the kid needs to be old enough to fully understand what is about to happen, and what CAN happen.. What's that age? I don't know.. I would take my 10 year old niece because I know her intelligence level, and she understands what can happen during skydiving.. That said, a friend of mine has a kid that made over 10 tandems younger than 2 years old.. She(my friend, not the kid of course) is an experienced jumper with around 600 jumps.. Hell, I was with her during at least 6 or 7 of those tandems.. Oh, wait - nevermind....These all occured about 8 months before the baby was born.. Mike
  12. I think the real question is does she RECEIVE ostrich or emu eggs often? Mike
  13. I'm more than happy to help.....but isn't it a bit late AFTER you are already married? Mike
  14. Cool! When are you gonna have the surgery? Just be sure to keep your eyes well lubricated after the surgery.....and don't buy any of the cheap, store brand lubricating drops! A friend of mine learned that the hard way.. What kinda job? Spectre, Safire, Sabre2 would all be good choices.. Mike

    The Pub

Damn.. We have our very own soft porn writer on the board! Way to go, Carl! Mike
  16. The freefly handle is really a sweet setup.. Bill was showing it to me today.. Just be sure you don't let anybody jump your rig without first showing them how it works.....it could result in a reserve ride if they try to pull it out incorrectly and think it's a hard pull.. Mike

    CReW Skies

No CReW with microlines for me! Those things are like power saws when under tension.. I'll let ya know when I head out that way.. Mike
  18. Who said this? I have to disagree.. On a Sabre2 loaded at 1.5, I had nothing but spectacular openings.. I did not roll the nose - I just let it hang.. It opened just like a Spectre at the same loading.. Mike

    sexy...!

Uhhh....Anybody know if Icarus will make me a canopy smaller than Luigi's? Mike

    CReW Skies

Much of my family lives out there in the LA area, so I make it out now and then.. Do you have a Lightning? If so, what are you loading it at? I'm about 190 with no gear, and will be jumping a L160.. Mike

    CReW Skies

If you're talking about the camp in two weeks, it is more of an intermediate camp.. They will be starting out with 9 ways and larger right off the bat.. I'll be receiving e-mail from Mark whenever they have a camp coming up, so I'll keep ya updated on when some novice camps will be in your area.. I would feel comfortable on the 9+ ways if I could take a fairly easy slot to fly - but to really get the most out of it I need to practice with some 2 and 4 way rotations/sequential before I get into the intermediate/advanced stuff.. I plan on getting a Lightning very soon, and practicing with some of the local experienced CReW guys.. Mike

    CReW Skies

Well, I'm very inexperienced at it myself, so I can't really give much advice on it.. The SIM has some recommendations for people that want to try CReW - check it out.. I'd say that you should be comfortable with your canopy skills, be able to land close to your target every time(the SIM specifies a distance), and find a very experienced CReWDog/instructor to teach you.. Mike
  23. What is your source for this rumor, Dave? Ever experienced this yourself? Give us some info on where you're coming from.. Well, I wasn't there, but I have heard from several that were there that there was a good wind, and some rotors off the trees.. Again, where is your info coming from? You don't seem to have done any research before you commented.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.. Mike
  24. In addition to the ones that Dutchboy recommended, try http://www.flightinfo.com Mike
