It's a totally new feeling. I've been in the fire dept for 23 years, but somehow this is even more gratifying.

Chambersburg. 4-9-05. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) AA #2069 ASA#33 POPS#8808 Swooo 1717

Posted also in Bonfire, here is the serious version: Rookie (less than 100 jumps) jumper on a RI Voodoo (RSL equipped) with a Saber 135 @ ~1.1, apparently got spun up on deployment. Cut away and successfully deployed a PD126r reserve. Reserve reportedly opened with line twists as well (unknown at this writing the degree of line twists). Question: would cutting away from line twists with an RSL induce line twists in the reserve? Feedback please. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... If you wear contacts, I would recommend using goggles by Sport RX. Specifically the G-101 model. Check here: http://www.sportrx.com/default.asp They are a little pricey ($30.00), but they work better than any others I've tried. (Now that I've had my eyes lasered, I still wear them. Very comfy) Good luck. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) Yeah, I've seen that. Very impressive but not what I had in mind. I'm thinking more like something that can use existing rig technology and be comparable in terms of size. Maybe with that advent of low bulk fabric, like what PD is now testing, they will get closer. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... Just think if you could pack and deploy one of those: You'd probably be able to get a full days glide from 10K. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... I was wondering what a company like BRS would want with a DZ. Didn't make sense. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. (I never heard of you either!!) AA #2069 ASA#33 POPS#8808 Swooo 1717

Taking a tandem passenger who has been drinking is a BAD idea. Tandem passengers are, at times, unpredictable. Add beer/booze into the mix and it amplifies that unpredictability. Not good. My goals this year are: 1. Break 1000 jumps (142 to go) 2. Get AFF rated. 3. Learn to (safely) swoop, ala Brain Germain, Scott Miller, etc... Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. I dropped a three pack-a-day habit 17 years ago. The most important thing you need to do at this point is to start altering your environment. In order to become a non smoker, you need to place yourself, quite deliberately, in non-smoking situations. For example, sit in the non smoking section of restaurants. Stay away, for a time, from your friends who smoke (some will get offended by this, but those who are truly interested in your success, will understand), wash ALL your clothes and bedding. Clean, stem to stern your car. Get rid of all your ashtrays. These are just a few of the things I did this time that I didn't do last time. Controlling your environment is the only thing you can do. Take the bull by the horns and get it done. Good Luck.

No wonder I did so bad in math class.

I budget $240/month for jumps and $160 for gear and maintenance. What doesn't get spent from that $500 usually winds up at a sushi bar.

It's really more of information than anything else. It lets potential TI's know what system they need to know if they want to work there. To get cross trained is relatively easy, so it's no real problem. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off. -The World Famous Tink. Universities are sometimes weird about what they will fund and what they won't. My experience at the University of Maryland was that they will fund the clubs existence and support things like club trips and time in the tunnel for "training", but would have nothing to do with jumping itself. When I got to grad school at Towson University, there was no club at all. When I tried to start one, the response was not only "NO", but "HELL NO". There is an article by the guy who founded the UM club somewhere on this site (It's been a while, so you might have to dig very deep.) I don't know of any school other than the military academies that fund a team for collegates. Good luck forming your club. Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... I actively encourage those I meet to jump. However, I am adamant about the risks. I blatantly tell them that a high speed collision with a planet is not something you can survive. That usually weeds out those who don't belong in our playground. Even more weed themselves out by not following through with their plans. I don't ask again from those who don't show without regard for the reason. Those who's actions don't match their words are not worth dealing with. That being said, the number of people who follow through is vanishingly small. And of those who come the first time, it is a tiny percentage who make it to their license. It is due to these small numbers that I ceaselessly recruit. We are a small and otherwise insignificant sport whos existence is tenuos at best. The only way we can improve these odds is to increase our numbers and becomes closer to a mainstream activity. (Not that jumping will ever be mainstream, but in time we can become something that is less of a curiosity.) Only then can we assure our sport will continue to exist.
