I have found the latest on this thread to be interesting and to see the different responses...I rarely post here. I blew my knee out on a landing earlier this year - I was very current (had 87 jumps for the year at the time) and had been doing well with the landings for the last 100-150 jumps. I will be back in the air in november - normally jump a pilot 168 (.98:1.0 wl) and am going to upsize to a pilot 188 (.87:1.0). Why? to protect my knee and to make the landings a little bit easier. I find it unbelievable that someone is actually downsizing after an injury esp with a high performance canopy. Some would say its "gutsy" or they have "skill." Others will defer on the side of stupidity. Different strokes for different folks - some people have different ideas about safety orientation than others. thanks to all who made this a success. We had a record breaking weekend...a kick-ass bonfire on saturday and alot of drinking and debauchery. I even met Clay this weekend - a long with a lot of familiar faces from this area....we even had 2 guys show up from Oklahoma.....they didn't know about the weekend being a mini-boogie though. I believe that this will end up being an annual event...it was great seeing granny and skootz ... and the star group were awesome. Not forgotten for sure...but respectfully, I said 'honored', it's a very special type of person that willingly runs INTO Hell so that others can escape it. Those people and others like them, are today, in MY prayers. your comments reminded me of something that I had done the other day....I was eating at a fast food restaurant waiting to go to an appointment and a man walked in and sat down and ate. He was wearing motorcycle gear and on it he had things on the leather that said to never forget those lost in desert storm.....and that he was there ect. I went up to him...shook his hand and thanked him for his service before I left. He was quite shocked. There are so many people that sacrifice for our freedoms. Today is a special day to remember - it is a day that changed our lives as americans. There just are no words to express the sacrifices made. If you really want to jump take the time to go to physical therapy and see what they have to say; they will be able to tell you how much you will be able to get back. The orthopedist issue can be sticky. For me I saw the best in town who specifically did reconstruction on knees - that was his specialty. If you decide to get a 2nd opinion, then you should see someone who specializes in shoulders. As someone who is currently recovering from a knee surgery (acl/mcl/meniscus) the PT sucks, but I hit the gym every day I don't do PT, and I do yoga once a week to get some of my flexibility back. Right now I am about 6 - 8 weeks ahead of schedule to get back in the air. My point is....if you really want it....you are going to have to fight for it. Good luck! As a patient I have not had it, but during my ortho rotation it was used a lot....saw a lot of positive results and few who said it wasn't helpful...but overall I saw good things with it. Weather is still looking great for this weekend mid 80s. Also there will be someone there selling food on saturday for lunch so people don't have to leave the drop zone.
