Because a search using those words would turn up several threads in which the concept of requiring canopy control courses has been discussed. Which was what the person I was replying to was asking about. Do you think it would be beneficial for the S&TA's to be encouraging canopy control courses at the DZ annually? I don't know if it would help or not....we had 15 students graduate last year...all are jumping this year. I just was wondering if it was at least offered that maybe it could be used as a resource for people....although I do understand that cost does play into it. I don't know...I guess I am just searching for answers to help solve the problem. To protect me and the ones that I love I guess I will just keep pushing for jumpers to educated themselves.....and to constantly keep my head on a swivel. Anyway....I have helped medically a couple of times on the plane...but have never had anyone croak....that would pose a dilemma although it makes you wonder why they didn't land at the nearest airport. Usually in medical emergencies that is the first thing they want to do -although with the passenger being dead, I guess it is no longer an emergency - ok, time to shut up as I am digging myself into a deeper hole. Until the american heart association makes the changes to ACLS/BLS protocol changes probably won't be made. I haven't seen the study but will look into it tomorrow. edited to add: the change in checking for a pulse is interesting....wonder if doing cpr on someone who has a pulse will have a detrimental effect -although guess I can see why they got rid of it. The guidelines are constantly changing - i am spoiled working in the ER there is always someone there to breath while compressions are going. Airways are secured quickly. 2 jumps 1 - 2way with my hubby (1st jump of the year/1st jump with my man as my hubby). 1 - funneled 10way (of course i funneled it being the newbie of the group -but they let me play anyway). beer owed (2 cases - will be payed once our home DZ opens; hopefully there won't be interest due as well). Can't complain...best weather since november for us here and got to get back in the air after almost 3 months of down time. I love the sky...I love the ocean. I skydive and scuba, although I have been in scuba a lot longer than jumping. Both get me going, get me pumped and I see beauty in both of the sports. We also boat over in the san juan islands....have a 38ft bayliner and go over twice a month. Every time we are there the view is different even though we go to the same places. beauty surrounds us all of the time....we just need to take a moment to notice. I am a baby jumper....trying to be responsible and learn as much as possible about skydiving I have taken a canopy control course. I found it to VERY helpful and would hope that others would take the course so that they can learn more effectivley how to manuever your canopy and set up appropriate landing patterns (in addition to figuring out how to land my canopy - they use to call me "pigpen" at the DZ -hehehehehehe). My point is is that there is so much overload when you are taking IAD/AFF courses and focusing on the A license you don't necessarily absorb everything that you are taught ( at least i didn't). Maybe I am a rare bird that suffers from overload too - who knows. Anyway, going back and taking the course really cemented things in for me. Any thoughts or comments on how to or if the implementation of canopy control courses should be mandated for "low-time" jumpers? took me three tandems to figure out I liked jumping due to being overwhelmed.....now i love it even when i am overwhelmed by it.

That's great... finishing your program that is.. Fortunately I don't have to find a job... I already have one of those... Considering I belong to the Government... I actually have one too ( a job)...now I go from RN to NP - so now I am responsible for the making the decisions about what to do for the patient instead doing what the providers have asked me to do....very surreal

Lots of people think they'll stay, but don't. I think a lot more people fall in love with telling people they are a skydiver more than they fall in love with skydiving itself. t That is not something I had thought of....I figured mostly people got busy having kids, getting married, or marrying their job kind of thing. I hope that I am in the sport for many years to come....we spend 1/2 of our year revolving around jumping and the ther 1/2 revolving around scuba.....and their is always debate on which trip will focus around which sport.

I finished in December - by the time I was done with that beast (my thesis and all of its re-writes) I was ready to burn it and the school down! I still had boards to take but took those in January and found out I passed on March 3rd (the day of my wedding reception! as we were leaving)! There is nothing like being officially "done."
