Do I remember?!! I had one, they were slightly smaller than a Strato Star at 172 sq ft as I recall. Had an opening once that was THE hardest I've ever had broke 11 lines across the center of the canopy. I sent it back, and wanted a new one but they just re-lined it and returned it. The new lines stretched quickly though. I put less than 100 jumps on that canopy with 3 mals, ended up jumping an old Strato Star with many jumps on it, but it was a much better quality canopy. The Cobra WAS BSBD.

Question: What's The Lowest You've Ever Pulled?
frynsky replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Messed w my buddy a lot on the way to altitude. When his low time girlfriend dumped at 3000, he fruitlooped me. 3 times. Got open at 800 ft, 20 ft below him. Vern Melancon, USPA president at the time, was on the ground and when we walked up he quietly said "Thats too low." And it was. And I am STILL the only man alive to beat Sonny Gros in a low pull contest!! BSBD. -
Yeah, I did one once but had a three canopy rig and wanted to fly my new reserve to check it out. Even though I had three canopies, probably wouldn't do it again now. But cutting away is totally different when you don't have to and you have time to think about it, gotta say that. Also, those were the days of BSBD.

Yea, I believe there still is. Ran by a guy named Bruce Deville the last I heard. I haven't skydived in La for sometime, I live in Ft. Worth now. Have you looked in the back of parachutist at the DZ listings?
-
I started skydiving with Louisiana Tech Parachute Team, and the school did put forth some funds to send us to Collegiate Nationals. They also recognized us as athletes, I actually lettered in skydiving, along w quite a few others. Got some looks and comments wearing my letter jacket w USPA wings on it, pretty cool thing. But then came our infamous pool jump (see scary jump stories in history & trivia if you like) and alas, that was the beginning of the end. Best of luck, BSBD

The white one. They both look great, I just think you look hot in the white one. Have a great time no matter which one you choose!

OK, you got me. Lurking about as usual....cus I generally have nothing witty to say,,,,,"Man small, why fall? Skies call, that's all" ....SEE!

When did wearing a sky diving patch go out of fashion.?
frynsky replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
John, I've made quite a few jumps with you from 90-96 at Spaceland and then Waller. And I can safely say you are not "normal." But then normal people don't have nearly as much fun as we do, do they? BSBD -
I had asthma real bad as a child. The dr will check her for allergies, this in my case meant they gave me like a hundred very tiny injections on my back, they wait a while and then see which ones have swollen, this tells them what u are allergic to. But this was 30+ years ago, they may well have another procedure now. Btw, I had it so bad I went and lived on the Gulf Coast for a year and that pretty much solved it. An ocean or mountain climate is great for it, cus there are very few airborne "triggers."

PM'ed you, Jerry.

I vote for it to be personal choice. I think that requiring them is a huge slap to the face to those jumpers who lived through times of no aads, and to todays standards, questionable gear. I thank all of them, because without their willingness to jump, i wouldnt be able to experience the tranquility of skydiving. Wow. I agree...... and....you're welcome?...nice post
-
Ok, I get your point. I just struggle to understand it I guess. But, each to his own. Off topic, I LOVE your sig line and use it sometimes. Blue Skies to everyone.......
-
That is certainly your right. And nothing personal, but I want to ask, does this statement "an aad is essential for my jumping and nobody is telling me otherwise no matter how many jumps theyve got." concern anyone other than me? Not directed solely at you, and I don't mean to offend you. But, really, if u had a choice, skydive w no aad or not skydive, would it mean giving up the sport? I come from a different era and am just trying to get an understanding of this, sorry if I offended you. BS, BD

Most dropzones have rental gear for students. That way, you don't have to buy gear until you are ready and have a better idea of what you really want and need. You might want to check into it.
-
Do it now. Your license will not expire. You may have to go thru a refresher course depending on the dropzone and how long you stay out of it. But, do it now, while you have the yearning and the cash to do it.
-
Thats great! And all this time I thought I was "sky scum" only to find out I'm a freaking "skydiving monk"!
-
I just wonder, what if there were NO AAD's. Let's just say everyone had to skydive the way we oldtimers were taught, No AADs, RSLs, Dytters or even coaches. Add in, you MUST jump, gasp, a ROUND canopy. How many people who are now skydiving would have never made their first jump or never have made it as far as they have? I am all for safety, but no one should DEPEND on anything other than themselves and their actions. I am not putting anyone down, this has often been brought up at the dropzone and I would like other's opinions. BS, BD

"Thanks Bro! I'm pretty dang tickled to still be around too. Yeeaaah, 20 years ago right about now I was getting a 100 milli -booty shot of Demerol in the buttocks, not a bad way to spend an afternoon, if you got that kind'a time " Dude!!! "Frenchfry" here. How's my fellow member of the "Bonus Days Club" doing these days? You're here and posting, thats a good thing. I had to say good to hear from you. And we had a Gainesville Tx reunion last month, I want you to know I toasted ole Jeb. And a few others, glad you weren't one of them! Blue Skies Brother!!

Just repeat after me, "I don't have an attitude problem, YOU have a perception problem." Works for me!

OR he counts all time at the dz as experience, so one weekend = 16 hrs. So that would be 62.5 weekends, no big deal.

Intentional cutaway: advisable? accessible?
frynsky replied to LittleOne's topic in Safety and Training
Good point. You don't. In that case, you would end up with a two canopy out situation. My feelings, and I am a "old-timer", is that I have faith my reserve WILL work, and I think if you have doubts about that, you need to find another sport. I know that may sound harsh, but so be it. And, I really did mine to fly my new reserve, because it has been my experience that malfunctions occur when you least expect them and you often end up w a tight or undesirable landing area. Also, my tersh was a round canopy w/ a 20 ft bridle designed as a BASE tersh. So, it would actually open above your reserve. -
Intentional cutaway: advisable? accessible?
frynsky replied to LittleOne's topic in Safety and Training
I've got 6 cutaways, one intentional when I got the rig I have now, cus I wanted to check out my reserve. BUT I have a Vector 2 with a tersh mod. The tersh modification consists of D rings on the front of the harness. IF you can find a rig like this, it is great for a intentional cutaway cause your handles are in the correct place. You just connect your tersh to the front of the rig and you're good to go. I am not suggesting that you do or do not make an intentional, but I love having complete faith in my reserve, just in case, and mine was great with no problems. Blue Skies,,,,, -
