  1. That would be Scott Formby. He was my instructor and jumpmaster for my first jump. He lived in Shreveport for years, last saw him at a reunion in Shreveport years ago. The only La Tech jumper i am still in touch with is Tim Garlington, he still lives in Ruston, and comes on dz.com sometimes.....
  2. Soo many memories....a double keeled Dactyl, a cottonbelt conference meet where all COONASS skydivers wore flattened, dead frogs around our necks. (Hey, Vern gave em to us!) A cannon. The safety meetings on the causeway headed to Covington... The "Scream Palace" down in the French quarter... Greggo King, RIP...the demo we did into the Prop Stop on the bend of the Tickfaw River,,,,other jumpers seeking US out at Freak Bros cus "we heard about you guys, and want to skydive w yawl"....BS, BD to YOU Jay Dufour.....Quote
  3. UH...no. They can arrest anyone for any reason. They can arrest you for just giving them a hard time. Ain't saying its right or legal, but they can do it. Nothing may come of it, but you will still spend a few hours with them...
  4. Well... I have a Vector 2 made in '88 with a Glidepath Fury and the same reserve as you, a Firelight. It has been converted to a BOC, and I have NEVER had any trouble at all from this rig. I don't jump much anymore, and in my opinion there are a lot of "gear snobs" in the sport now. As long as it was maintained properly I obviously see no problems with you jumping it. Flame away people.
  5. "In 1971, was it possible to plug-in the the phone lines to make a call like the the Bell linemen used to do? was this suspect familiar with phone technology? " He could have plugged into any splice box, cross box, or a demarc box(on the side of every house/bldg) if he had a "butt-in" test set, which are very commonplace, every phone tech has one. IF he had the knowledge. And I could probably give you enough knowledge on how to do it in under 10 minutes....
  6. One of my buddies who is a Tandem Master to a coworker of mine making his first tandem "Who is your BEST friend"...student sd "my wife" NO DUMBASS you don't have a parachute on I AM YOUR BEST FRIEND!!"
  7. You call, we fall..we dive at five, no muff too tuff.
  8. Welll, I remember a conference meet in Bayou La Batre, Vernon Melancon gave all us Coonasses flat, "cg godfrog" frogs with a grommet thru them on a piece of 550 cord to wear as necklaces. And, um, we had a cannon. And someone took the cannon into town, and, well, i left before the police showed up. GOOD TIMES!!
  9. I started jumping at Louisiana Tech and remember jumping there(vaguely, lol). Remember names like Drippy Dick and Bookworm. Also recall jumping a DC-3 the first time one was jumped in Mississippi, in Hattiesburg. Was jumping with the Coonass Skydivers then, and THOSE were GOOD times. Electric Star, anyone? BS, BD
  10. Uhh, say WHAT? Well, I guess I need to inform my old F-111 Fury 220 that all those standup landings never happened?!!!
  11. Nick, thanks for keeping the list for so long. I met you once years ago, and I think you are a stand up guy. FYI, I have printed it and it will always be a memorial to my friends who are on it, and NO ONE can change that. Blue Skies my brother.......
  12. I have one BASE jump but am not a BASE jumper. I have three close friends on the list, including one that coached me thru my one BASE jump. I think the list should remain, it serves more than one purpose. It is a memorial for my friends, and it is a reminder of the ultimate price that we all may have to pay if we BASE.
  13. I had about 100 jumps and we were jumping at a national park on a grass strip w HUGE trees all around. Lost a toggle on my Cobra10(crappy main), and decided to rear riser it. The huge trees and my round reserve were a factor. Didn't have the time or just didn't think to flare it high and see how it responded. Well, with one toggle still at the keeper, it turned when I flared. Into a levee. OUCH! Sprained my ankle and broke blood vessels in my foot. Live and learn (hopefully).. BSBD
  14. That's right. A beautiful, target like, perfectly round rainbow. Only one I've ever seen.
  15. I once closed last on a 10 way star right before we punched a huge cumulus cloud. At times you could see no one, at times you could see the entire formation. BUT, you could hear everyone screaming and yelling the entire time. The kicker was, right before we punched it, we saw a circular rainbow on top of it, it was AWESOME. Mere words cannot do it justice. One of the most beautiful sights I have seen in my lifetime. We came out of it about 4-5k ft, right over the DZ. Blue Skies, White Cumulus Clouds!
  16. I made quite a few jumps w Skippy from 90-96 when I was in Houston. Several memorable CrW jumps. Skippy was fun to be around and was always ready to jump with anyone, no drop zone politics involved. Sorry to hear he is gone, I think the sport could use more like him. Blue Skies, Skippy!
  17. 1)Stuffed a Starlite round in a double shorty Wonderhog, it did NOT want to come out. 2) Had a spinner on a Cobra 10(damn death canopy) 3) Had another spinner on Cobra 10 4) Broke 11 lines on Cobra 10 5) Toggle went thru keeper and wrapped around brake lines... 6) One intentional...
  18. Hopefully not. Never lost mine. The thing is, your buddies, or at least fellow skydivers, should help you out. One should follow your main and one should follow your freebag. Most malfunctions, the two won't be separated by that much distance. You, in turn, should do the same thing for your fellow jumper when you witness a malfunction. Having said that, the only other thing is that you don't want to get TOO close to the main or freebag and you NEVER want to try and catch it in the air, no matter how easy it may appear to be. People have gone in from this. BS BD
  19. If I was provided life insurance for the family, oh yeah, I WOULD GO IN A HEARTBEAT.
  20. Florida, late 70's, early 80's. DC-3's were the jumpship of choice. First jump of the weekend, before the plane had a chance to air out, let's just say it had a certain odor instantly recognizable to most people of that era. I'm not saying what it was, but everyone had the "munchies" after the load... "and that's all I have to say about thaat"
  21. I had a buddy that had one also. He cut it away 2-3 times, the last time into the Red River, and he said good riddance. I have a question, after reading all this, does anyone know of a Cobra10 that had MORE than 200 jumps put on it with no trouble? Not me,,,,,
  22. Hey John Rich. Nice picture, mine was the "Sunrise" pattern. Thanks and Blue Skies
