Actually, I think that opposite is probably true when it comes to_actual_skydiving. The great majority of posts on this website are from people who jump very little, if at all in some cases. That, of course, does not stop them from posting their expert opinion to "newbies." Yes, there are quite a few of us full-time skydivers on here as well, but I doubt anyone who has met me would say that I am "boring." As to the original discussion about "casual skydiving," that can truly only be accomplished after reaching a base-level proficiency that allows you to go more than a few months without having to be retrained. I went a few years back in the mid-nineties where I was lucky to make 100 jumps a year, only making it out to the dropzone a few times a year to see who was around and see what kind of loads were going up. While it felt great to jump, I had too much other stuff going on in my life then to devote any more time than that. That said, I felt "out of the loop" when I was on the DZ, even though I still knew some folks and had over 1500 jumps before I took that break. There are quite a few people who only skydive at boogies anymore. You will see them with very-dated gear, jumpsuits with the asses ripped out of them from botched landings, and always hanging around Ponce's tent..... Just picking. The bottom line here is that you MUST maintain some semblence of currency in order to keep the activity within safe limits. Man, you get to some of the larger boogies and you will see some stuff that will scare you to death. I am serious. Chuck

Once again: this is a "save your ass" mod for people who just refuse to bail to toggles when they get too deep in the corner on rear-riser swoops. The mod is also good for people who swoop to a complete stop on rears without ever transitioning to toggles. This is not something that most jumpers, even competitive swoopers, would_need_to do. The mod will not add any "performance" to your main.

That canopy looks exactly like one of two of my old sponsored canopies. It's very possible that it's the CC65 that I jumped for a while. Same color pattern anyway. Nice chow by the way, whoever it is. Chuck

You misunderstand the purpose of the mod. It is designed primarily as a tool for digging you out of the corner when you are at the stage of your (primarily competition) swooping when you think if you bail to toggles you will lose a meet. The average person who knows to bail to toggles when they are too deep in the corner to pull out on rears without inducing a high-speed stall will have no use for the mod. It's more of a "save your ass" mod than anything. On a well-executed, smoothly-transitioned rear-riser swoop, the mod will not do anything at all. If you don't pull down/out on your rears to the near-stall point, then the mod will not pull down the tail of your canopy. Chuck

As someone who does not yet have an A-license, you are still a student, at least here in the United States. You need to strive to reach the base level of proficiency; the A-license. As a student, at least by current USPA ISP doctrine, you need to make a skydive at least once every 30 days or you will have to recieve retraining. Go 90 days and you will not only be paying for a ground retraining, you will also be paying for a one-JM AFF recurrency dive. Call your dropzone and ask them specifically what their currency requirements are. While your DZ ought to be following the ISP, there are still quite a few out there that have what they believe to be equally effective programs. That said, no matter what anyone tells you, you are still a student in USPA's eyes until you have that A. Be weary of any tips you get on this or any other website, but you would be wise to at least check the posted credentials of those who respond to you before taking what they say as gospel.
