Is the Government Watching your Internet Activity?
SkymonkeyONE replied to JohnRich's topic in The Bonfire
Anyone applying for a TS clearance nowadays will have themselves Googled by the investigators and questioned about internet activity in the interview. -
What DZ.commer would you like to party with the most?
SkymonkeyONE replied to JRock's topic in The Bonfire
Boy, don't make me tell these people about the time at Myrtle Beach when you got taken off to jail for being piss drunk and riding around in that Jeep with a 12-pack box over your head! Oops! Guess I just did it. Foolish little JayBird. SM-1 -

Those are good pictures. I don't remember them being taken; can you imagine that?

Once it's in the bag, it's in the bag.

A bit too long is better than a bit too short. when you are assembling your suit your cables should reach to the end of the keepers and maybe a tad too long (like one inch). after it's in, simply "snatching" your suit from top to bottom of the cable will distribute the rest of the cable evenly down the length of the channel. When you move around in your suit in flight and the wings are inflated, the outward tension on the attachment system will take up the slack. If your cables are too short, then they will start pulling out from the top. It's happened to me before, generally on the back of the suit. Making sure your cables are fully in after every flight (I never de-rig my suit) will prevent this from happening. Chuck

Have your rigger make you one. I have not seen any for sale that are pre-made, but I may be mistaken.

Jari owns a Velocity, but he doesn't jump it with his suit anymore (not since 4th of July weekend 2003). He switched to a Sabre2 97 after that weekend and before Rantoul and jumped that until about a week ago when he took possession of a Katana. No, he does not "cut his legs away", he unzips and sticks the leg wing in the inlet hole, just like I do. "iffy" means that the openings are less predictable than those of his Sabre2.

Underloading an Eliptical?
SkymonkeyONE replied to cheneyneel's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Your logic is flawed. Think about paragliders for a moment. Incredibly large, very elliptical, formed/airlocked/braced noses, very lightly loaded. -
Jari does all the time now. He jumps a 97. He recognizes that the openings are much more "iffy" than with his Sabre2 97, but he is willing to risk it for longer swoops.

If you have fully cut corners and your bag fits better that way, then packing grommet to BOC only makes sense. I play around with my two containers, sometimes packing pin to grommet and sometimes packing grommet to BOC. Same results both ways due to my long bridle and open corners. Chuck

Check your PM's, John. I talked to Paul this weekend.

Ghetto? No way, dude. Try "bachelor food" as a better description. I luuuuurve Hamburger Helper.

reserve repack in North Carolina or at Monroe, GA = $35

Glen is right. Dick around long enough with the wrong equipment and eventually you are going to find yourself in that situation. Matt, as to your bag being more rectangular, try and squish it down in there anyway (pin to grommet). I have seen many a person do it. Scott did it with his old racer no problem. You will absolutely get cleaner openings packing that way. Also, no, don't pack grommet to BOC unless you have dynamic corners. Chuck

Radar jammers are illegal and don't work well anyway. Laser "shifters", at least the good ones, are totally effective and legal to buy and use. Lasers and everything associated with them are controlled by the FDA (food and drug administration). There is a good article about radar detectors, jammers, and shifters in Motor Trend (Jan 04 issue?) One of the cable automotive shows did a really neat test on jammers and shifters. Only one company's product was 100 percent effective. I forget the name of the company, but I remember them saying that they advertise in Popular Mechanics.

How much emphasis on canopy control?
SkymonkeyONE replied to Jarcie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Generally, yes. If you are paying for a course you will generally also do a couple of hop and pops with your instructor where you play "follow the leader" and try different things on the way down from altitude. Your flights are critiqued and all of your landings are videoed. Also, I responded to everyone, not just your post. As to "who's watching me do this stuff?", that's (at least at my last DZ) a separate ground instructor, also on a radio. -
Yes. Also, Asaf Fischelson was jumping a Paratec R.A.G.E 107 at Deland this weekend. He said he liked it.

I put a couple of jumps on a Blade 98 at the Mardi Gras boogie......in my wingsuit
