Wrestling with a student wouldn't work well for me; I am pretty small as far as tandem instructors go. I have always just flown my body. It helps that I have a solid exit as well. Chuck

anybody else notice this addition?
SkymonkeyONE replied to superstu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That's a joke, right Mark. JC was killing it when you were shitting green. He's a fantastic canopy pilot and one of the nicest, best-mannered competition canopy pilots there has ever been. I am stoked for him. Chuck -
HMA and RDS on non crossbraced canopies.
SkymonkeyONE replied to dsbbreck's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
My previous post above was obviously flawed in that I neglected to isolated on the PC and dbag when referring to dealing with the RDS for regular skydives. Yes I see the benefits of pulling off the slider on any skydive and in fact need to speak to people (like someone such as Joe B) interms of making myself a complete RDS for competition and training as well as the ability of taking just the slider off on all my other jumps. Steve, I don't know of anyone running a full RDS that can't "switch modes" in under five minutes. I keep my vectran RDS lines folded up inside the inner mudflap on my rig and my deployment system is connected with a Slink. Chuck -
Done! Thanks for making sure that was fixed, guys. That makes it much simpler. Chuck

New rules for new season
SkymonkeyONE replied to CanopyPiloting's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
There are plenty of meets that you can compete in against those very same guys that you don't need a PST pro card, bro. -
HMA and RDS on non crossbraced canopies.
SkymonkeyONE replied to dsbbreck's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Good point. I pull my slider off on every single skydive I make with my Velo-equipped rig. It's faster than rolling and stowing and it gives you a much-less-restricted view of your surroundings. Me? I would be all for HMA and a removable slider (plus RDS lines for competition) on an HP nine-cell. Actually, maybe I will reline my Sabre2 97 with HMA just for shits and grins next time. -
Don't forget, we paid taxes our whole careers (and still do), so I don't feel bad at all about that little bit of fun.

I fly my Aerobird Extreme in amazingly windy conditions now, just to see how much I can get away with. As they are basically over-powered gliders, you can "hover" them pretty easilly in the wind. I would never fly any of these V-tails RTF's in wind, though, without being in Pro mode. I mod the tails too so that they will more-easilly barrel roll and fly inverted. While still only three-channel, my P-51 is WAY more aerobatic. it's the ailerons. I was actually flying it in high winds a couple of days ago and was very happy with the way it cut through the air. It's pretty fragile on landing, even with the aftermarket landing gear I put on it), but I am stoked with flying ability now.

Do you ever not read e-mails or answer the phone . . .
SkymonkeyONE replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
I am pretty bad about answering my phone. Sometimes I just don't want to talk on the damn phone. Other times, I am the one who just won't stop dialing numbers. -
No kidding. I hate reality TV and Dagny has me so hooked on that damn show. I'm now rooting for Taylor Hicks / Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler / Mandisa / Paris. If Chris Daughtry doesn't win the show I would be very surprised. He's very good. Kellie Pickler is good too, but still a bit nervous acting. Paris just kills it as well.

We watched Survivor and taped the elimination show. We also flipped back and forth a bit at commercials but they didn't line up too good last night. One bleach blonde NC girl voted off last night and one girl that was WAY too fond of herself (the one that posed a lot). They culled two of the weaker guys too. I really didn't like the Donny Osmond look-alike. Didn't replay the episode yet to see the Paula stuff.

Just off the top of my head, here's my very-incomplete list of shows I have seen more than ten times: -Escape from New York -The Green Berets -The Wizard of Oz, Frosty the Snowman, and every other major kid movie that showed once a year on TV when I was a kid -Say Anything -Every skydiving video I have ever owned -2001 a Space Odyssey -A Clockwork Orange -The Longest Day, Midway, and all of the other WWII movies -Star Wars (the original one)

I may be confused on his placing, but I know there is an MFF instructor who worked at Yuma around 2000-2002 who took leave and finished 2nd one of those years. Can't remember his name either, but it was a pretty big deal in military circles at the time. Chuck

There is a crackhead that rides around downtown Raeford on one. Too stoned to walk!

PetsMart is cool. We bought our cat Ellie Mae there; first time I have ever paid for an animal in my whole life. Billy Bob (our dog) likes it too. He doesn't need a leash or anything and is good to not start any shit with other animals in there.

How to measure true L/D on a balloon jump
SkymonkeyONE replied to yuri_base's topic in Wing Suit Flying
That's amazingly techno-geeky in a Kevin Orkin/Scott Campos kind of way, but it was cool to look at. Chuck -
I would estimate that I can push my zoom out to about .45 before mine "fuzzes out". I do all my "in your face" ground and plane stuff at .3, but push it out as far as it will go for the freefall portion of most of my camera jumps. The only exception is when I shoot my own handheld tandem videos or am flying my camera for "inside" AFF. I shoot at .3 for those. Chuck

Likewise, I have been jumping a .3 Xdream for over two years and love it.

Yes. It makes me nuts to have to delve into nonsensical threads of unknown meaning in order to root out PA's and such. Chuck

I was unable to figure out a way to edit that PDF page. Holler at us when there is a working way to do this registration online. Otherwise, I don't really see the point of having that link up. I will gladly pre-register though. Chuck
