Anyone who likes both freeflying and RW
Katzeye replied to rendezvous's topic in Safety and Training
Just my $0.02 Freeflying has a way higher learning curve than RW. It will take much longer for you to become FF proficient at an equal proficiency level in RW. This may lend to a higher frustration level with the sport. As a newbie, basic body skills (read: belly flying) are going to save your life. Master those first. In FF things go to shit twice (if not more) as fast than in RW. Are you proficient enough with your basic body skills to save your life in those situations? If you can't tell, I firmly believe that you should spend your newbie jumps learning the level horizon. For some it takes 200 jumps for others only 50. Once you've got belly-to-earth down, mixing up the horizon will be more intuitive and your RW skills will directly relate to fun and safety in FF. LA* Is a chicken omelette redundant? -
Uh oh - I can see it now. BillV's diatribe on wing characteristics in a tornado. LA* Is a chicken omelette redundant?

OK, I'll fess up. I watch Survivor on a weekly basis. It's my "General Hospital." I like to watch the group dynamics and I've learned alot about "alliances" and have actually applied these theories to work! So far, I've not been "voted off the island." I also watch MTV's (un)Real World, reminds me when I was more clueless (I'm still pretty clueless) and could drink all night long. I usually end up watching this plopping on the couch recovering from a hangover. Fear Factor used to rock, but now it seems they're just remaking the same stunts. Although the couples Fear Factor was really cool. Especially when the unmarried guys couldn't free their women from the box underwater and the girlfriends lost faith and bailed on them early. Hmmm, but the married couples had no problem getting that stunt done... And let's not forget THE OSBOURNES! The first season was just plain brilliant! LA* Is a chicken omelette redundant?

My favorite line in the article: "For his latest feat, serial skydiver..." Like serial murderer or something? WTF? Also - does he ditch the wing to deploy? LA* Is a chicken omelette redundant?

Telling your SKYDIVING girlfriend how much she rocks

Does he give you *any* compliments - skydiving or other? Is a chicken omelette redundant? -
My parents were less than enthusiastic about my new "hobby" (read: obsession) when I was in AFF. I didn't mention anything about jumping to them (unless asked) until I hit my 100th. I showed them the video, including the pieing. It's made the neighborhood rounds 5 times and my Mom did a tandem Mother's Day before last. It took them 100 jumps to get cool with it. Go figure. Dirty Bess Kidd You're the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean -- not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr! Smelly? Reliable? Fine? Well, I'll believe the last one... Never even thought about it until a Navy SEAL type dude, friend of a friend type thing, offered to take me on a tandem. Tandem? Wassat? Next thing I knew I was graduating AFF. LA* Is a chicken omelette redundant?

Wow, it's cool to see that so many others have had the "no canopy" dream and landing without one. I've had that same dream. It was so long ago I wish I could remember it better... LA* Is a chicken omelette redundant? -
