when the freeflyers stop goofing off and flashing the 3minute light as a joke the 8way will start stacking up quicker

you lot are spoiled...

Some other things to think about: You might have trouble selling your rig without an AAD. You might want to loan your rig to someone who wants an AAD. I picked up a very cheap 2nd hand CYPRES1.

tradie's seem to do alright. i.e. carpenters, electricians. plumbers... Charge a fortune and work for themselves. Some IT workers have a good balance between pay and flexibility - thankfully I am one of them.

A visiting jumper from os - very sad. As you say it's only money (and not much at that), what is a life worth... Blue Dreams Benno

Two ways: 1) old school reach opposite. i.e reach right (equaly with arm and leg) to go left. 2) new school pitch the body. This is done by dropping the elbow and the knee. However to drop a knee you must straighted the other leg. This will also move (and pitch) the pelvis. My last coach said straightening the leg gives the power and you aim with the knee. To master this technique some tunnel time (with a coach) is essential. There just isn't enough reference in the sky!

was it 17 or 18 years between wins Blue Dreams Benno

Down in Oz, I don’t think I could afford the petrol to go base jumping! Petrol at my local servo has hit $1.40 a litre. Since I started driving in 1989, Petrol has doubled. Jump ticket prices have already risen a couple of dollars slot, at the start of the year. At my local DZ a single ticket is now a staggering #37! I have a 2001 ticket @ $25 / slot. The good news is that some DZs offer awesome deals for bulk buys or team rates. So shop around. Even in a small market like Australia there is strong competition for teams or those doing lotsa jumps. BTW: Our DZ has a local rule. If less than 200jumps you must use a RSL. This is additional to the APF which says {if less than 500 jumps} you must have an AAD. Blue Dreams Benno

I believe the APF recommendation {I’m sure Dave will correct me if I’m wrong } is "if any attempt to deploy the main has been made, and time and altitude permits: Execute a cutaway and then fire the reserve." Sounds abit bureaucratic to me, but it has merit. If your low, get something out fast. If you have more time – then do the job right. When the reserve deploys it can change the shape of the container – which might cause the main to open. OTOH {worse on some rigs} it’s not a good idea to cutaway because of the flapping risers and hardware. I was taught: Research, talk to instructors, then make your decision. And then stick to it. Blues Benno PS: At the DZ I got the first chapter of story. A jumper {with a territory } was test jumping a reserve. After he cut the main, the reserve had a pilot chute in tow! We where interrupted by the arrival of his student. I have to wait to next weeked to find out what happened. He did mention that he never did another test jump, so I suspect the reserve didn't work to well.

I am on the long path to become an instructor, so I want to learn how to best teach + learn common mistakes (& not to make them myself!). Discussion is good, more discussion is better. If no-one else says it: Talk to your instructor or someone you trust with an instructor rating at your DZ before you act on any advice - esp. advice on the internet! Blue ones, Benno You're joking... right? If an AFF student is reading these forums and reads this thread, and learns that an injury is the likely outcome of flaring much too early, then surely thats a good thing. Before going through AFF myself I read. And read. And read. And watched videos. And watched at the DZ. And asked questions. Here. At the DZ's. And read some more. Everything online needs to be taken into context - anyone who takes it as gospel is a fool. However, it DOES give great food for thought - the forums have prompted so many questions from me to my instructors that I wanted to know more about. I don't think the discussion of flaring too early and its downsides is doing anyone anything other than good. I'm sorry you feel differently.

What is the quickest amount of time that it took

if it's not for you then cutaway. Talk to your manager first and be honest - don't leave on bad terms. Good luck! B. Blue Dreams Benno -
Ditto that. Even if the water did go out, the tunnel break and the power stop. There was always beer Blue Dreams Benno

Failed Level IV 2 times!! Damn
btucker replied to SkyDiveCoastie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Glad I'm even worse at other sports than skydiving I wouldn't think of any skydive as a failure. You exited a "perfectly good aircraft" and threw yourself at 200MPH at the ground. How many people will do that? You must have done something right to land safe to even make it to the debrief. I do agree that relaxing is defenetly the key which is as easy to type as to say but friging hard to do in the air!!! Blue Dreams Benno -
Learning to skydive - taking the time to do it right

Really dig your energy! Good luck with AFF. It is a long hard expensive slog, certianly the most challanging & rewarding thing I've ever done. wahooo! Blue Dreams Benno -
Spot on. One time (Feb 2002) security wanted to cut into the sausages in my weight vest. Eventually they didn't but it chewed up some time. One of our guys wore his weight belt - that is stupid and asking for real trouble! Blue Dreams Benno

Apple ][ those where good days... I remember a golden quote by one of my mates "I bought a modem less than 12 months ago and there is already a warrent out for my arrest." There was too, he did 6months weekend detention for credit card fraud. He also hacked into a goverment voice and bugged a guys phone - both activies where investigated by ASIO {spooks}. Did anyone play lesuresuit larry? Blue dreams & Guru meditation errors. Benno

Dave being a much avid poster than me I thought you would have given warning to the good folk in Perris that the Aussies are about to hit town! Well here we come. Be seeing you all on the weekend. I'll be the fucked up one at the bar trying to drink my way out of jetlag. Three beers for ever timezone isn't it? And this is just the beginning there is a huge group of coming over in November - now those you really will have to worry about. For sure I'd leave town if I where you. Blue dreams, Benno PS: Cookie also flys out to Deland on Friday!

what about a packer working for a DZ. What happens if there is a MAL - which is obviously the packers fault? Blue dreams, Benno

In countries or Dzs that _enforce_ compulsory AAD’s: What do people do while they are being serviced? I had three rigs so when one of my AAD's was away for 10weeks it was not an issue. If I had only one AAD and rig being grounded for 10 weeks is a big issue! Blues Benno
