Days since accident: 1 Cold be worse. Walking to work: I saw _all_ the internet kiosk machines doing windows "scan disk" while a cleaner happly vacumed away. At my last work, I had 999days of uptime on a solaris box at work. I had to reboot it just because I could. Blue Dreams Benno

I can understand for insurance and PR reasons why a governing body/DZ would mandate AADs. To the layman, no skydiver will die if they jump with an AAD. We of course know that isn’t always the case – CRW, swooping, demos* it can be more risky to jump with the darn thing. When it's a rule that you must jump with an AAD. An issue which hasn't been solved is what you do for the 10+ weeks it takes to get the thing serviced { my last service was 11 }. Not jumping or jumping borrowed gear can be more risky. If you can afford it, one is forced to buy another AAD and then sell the one returned from service. Which is what I did. I’ve done about 50jumps without an AAD and was only knocked out once - as I whited out I threw my pilot chute. I bought an AAD for that rig the next day ;-) * landing height different from take-off height (I'd phuck it up for sure). Blue Dreams Benno

nb: The max landing weight remains unchanged at 7125. For most Dzs not an issue, especially the ones I jump at - you often have to land after a couple of hundred feet, re clearance or lack off. We do 8way out of PAC's with no issues, the door is very similar to a caravan, just not as high. It's probably worse for the camera guys than the TM/passengers as particularly at the back the roof isn't as high as caravan. It does however suck with a full load of 17, your like a sardine and climb performance is heavily affected. With 14 or less your laughing. Happy boogie! B.

Alot of people like Brain Germain's book. It's not a "swooping for dummies" but it will help you ask the right questions to the right people. http://www.bigairsportz.com/publishing.php#parachute Blue Dreams Benno

Thanks Cookie. Sound words and advice if ever I read them! Can't pretend we aren't disappointed, but the journey to get where we are has been a great and enjoyable one. I think for our 1st nationals the gang did great, 94 and silver - nothing to cry about! Take nothing away from your team, you guys did better then great -> awesome. I watched the video the other night at George’s. I can’t believe you got an 8 on round one with a funnel, fastest rebuild I ever seen. Man those waggas – sweet! Remember not to wear more than one medal at a time or you’ll have a bad back too – they are *large* *heavy* medals. Maybe you could secure them to the wall with a crossbow bolt… Cheers rehmwa. The difference between creeping and skydiving: The big whooshing sound! By the way we gave Clare a nickname: Little big humps. Apart from the two people biffing in and getting hurt {trust me, I know how you feel ;-) Get well soon } an awsome nationals. We should do it again next year. Blue Dreams Benno

Hi All, All finished. Results are online at: http://www.apf.asn.au Well done all, it was very hot comp - with my own team (Nexgen) just getting pipped at the line for 8way. Maybe I'm glad I didn't do that wager with Cookie going ;-) Blue Dreams Benno

Depending on how much weight I have on: PD143R 1.25 Airforce 160 1.12 PDR flew great, I was very impressed - so much so I'd fly this as my main. The Airforce is an Australian made reserve reinforced with Kevlar tape, not as much fun to fly but strong as all phuck and landed nicely. I was dumb enough to open it at terminal too ;-) None of my mains are loaded above 1.4. In all honesty my reserves where determined by the previous owner, they made pretty good decisions. we had a guy at the DZ who didn't drink. Instead of a case he made us all yummy kebabs. hint hint.

Awsome - ask a question, get an answer :-) I notice that 7125 (remains) the max landing weight, so probably a non issue for skydiving. -> i.e. Quite often we've had to land after a few minutes - clearence. empty weight is 3100.

My cypres just expired, do I turn it on to jump ?
btucker replied to buzi's topic in Gear and Rigging
test it out - throw it out of the plane with the cypres on and see what happens. Maybe it will blow up apon impact Wouldn't be legal to jump in Australia (even if turned off) it must be removed from the rig. Don’t know about Canada. It is worth noting that there have been quite a few AAD misfires (by every vendor) so you could (in theory) be at increased risk of endangering others. Personally; I'd jump it but only for a very short time (as in one day) until I got another AAD – begged, borrowed, hired or purchased. I'm sitting here sweltering (over 40 o C ) - I can only dream of cold. edit: pls confirm this. I think you have a three month window/grace. So the max age is 12years, 3months. Blue Dreams Benno -
Does this mean less jumpers? {how much does the a/c weigh?}

I have an idea of what your feeling too. My mother inlaw just got out of ICU. It looked very, very grim: The most optimistic prediction was 40%. I pray your Grandma and your family is as lucky. Hang in there.

-> She's away at the Picton boogie. Too much jumping and spanking to be home reading dropzone.com! Blue Dreams Benno

wahooo! 3 way fax rocks. Being three way there is more than enough engineering to keep the open jumper's thinking cap firmly engaged. Blue Dreams Benno

searching dropzone.com for Lutz is a great way to enjoy a raining afternoon. Blue Dreams Benno

ta for the replies & help. looks like I've been lucky, particularly in regard to pain or lack off. Sneezing hurts (alot actually). I can't bend forward at the waist & I can't walk on un-smooth/un-even surfaces without pain. Given that this is day4, I'd say I'm doing well. I'll post a follow up at some point should some other poor sod foobar their sacrum. Feel free to PM me if I forget. PS: I guess it could have been worse, not my scrot! YIKES Blue Dreams Benno

On Saturday I had a Hard landing - going backwards at high speed of knots on large canopy (1.1). Winds picked up after exit and shit happened. I've phucked up nationals for my 8way team (4Jan2006), but I'd been keen to know when I can get back to the gym and what I can do (esp diet as I am a vegeterian) to make the injury heal quicker. Sometimes I forget I have the injury as the pain isn't much and goes away all together at times. I few minutes ago I caught myself running for the phone. - I'm not taking any pain drugs. edit: fix {some} spelling
