    I think it is remarkably stupid to take the position that the temporary extension of the payroll tax must be linked to a long term change to the income tax rates. If you like the payroll tax holiday then figure out a way to pay for it. I would point out that people are going to get used to the tax holiday, and then what do you plan on doing with social security. We really shouldn't be screwing around with social security! If you like the idea of taxing Jane more get the votes and raise her taxes. Linking the payroll tax to a income tax on high earners is nothing more than political cock swinging. We need much less of people swinging their cocks in congress and much more problem solving. And yes I know that there are no proposals to raise Jane's taxes to 50%, I was being facetious.     I like the extra money in my pocket. I spend it since most of my savings is in the form of pre and post tax payroll contributions to my 401K & roth 401K. I think you will find that many will argue that it isn't doing enough. They would rather substitute the program that gave government checks to people that don't pay taxes at all. Those dollars will be spent in a flash, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I think the payroll tax cut runs a huge risk of undermining the social security trust fund. I also don't think I give a shit about that, since the baby boomers were going to suck social security dry long before I am eligible to claim it. Screw em, give me more payroll tax cuts.     You have to be outgoing and make an effort to be included. There aren't many places where people go around asking solos if they want to be brought in to their jumps, but most people will include you in jumps that are within your skill level if you ask them. No different from going to a business party where you don't know any one. If you sit and wait for people to approach and talk to you it won't happen, and people will actually avoid you because you will give off a vibe. I have been to a lot of DZ's since I started jumping and while some were more friendlier than others I never found a single one where I was given the cold shoulder if I introduced myself and talked to people. Assburgers... might want to check the spelling on that one! If you are eating assburgers at the DZ it might explain your current predicament!     What is your definition of retiring? I doubt I can say that I retired from my hard knuckle summer job at my local Naval Weapon Station where I worked on train, cranes, and automobiles. Maybe I will get more street cred if I say I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic, instead of admiting that I am a tax accountant.     When I was looking for a house about two years ago I came across a number of bank owned foreclosures where the banks didn't have some one winterize the houses, the oil tanks went dry, and the plumbing systems were a total loss.     Sounds like the bank did what they could, but they could try to make the modification process easier. And now we get to the meat and potatoes. He hasn't made his mortgage for many many months. At the end of the day you can't keep people in their houses if they can't pay the mortgage. Foreclosure sucks, but it is key to how our housing market works. Why would a bank lend your or I money to buy a house if they couldn't take it back if we stopped paying the mortgage? You agree to all of this when you take out a mortgage.
