I love video and stills from a balloon!!! I climb over, put my feet on the bottom of the basket, and my hands on the top. You can't see the ground, it is silent, it is like falling into nothing for the first second or too. My favorite skydiving moments ever.

Lodi Facing Million Dollar Lawsuit
DougH replied to michaelt's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did Bill fire you JP? I have nothing else do add since I have never been there, other than the fact that jumpers that sue should be tarred and feathered. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Were you there on scene? No? Are you a trained leo officer, with knowledge of that departments procedures, who is trained enough to dispute that the subject was making threatening movement while on the ground? The claim has already been made by that police department that the perp was making movements, and that they train to deliver a non-lethal blow in such circumstances. The perp isn't dead so we already know it is non-lethal. Letting a perp make a move that results in the officer having to empty their rounds into him is definetly not non-lethal. I just want to know your experince that you are using to agrue the other point, that the blow wasn't necessary, in your opinion of course. Near miss in freefall? A mystery? Advice needed.
DougH replied to T_P's topic in Safety and Training
Well, if that other jumper thinks that you should be tracking to gain separation from HIM, when he isn't even if your freefall group, then my response is that he needs to get his head out of his ass. The CCI needs to wake up as well. Putting freeflyers out first, because "that is just the way we do the exit order at our dropzone", isn't safe or smart when the jump run is flown into the upper winds. Five seconds seems like a very short delay as well, although I suspect by the time you got in the door and out the delay was greater, unless there was nil winds at the top and the plane was screaming across the ground. What a profound short little paragraph that says it all.

I agree. The real world is black and white!!! You totally nailed it. You either do well for yourself, or you are a have not in need of help. You are either strong, or you are weak and in need of help. I like this binary reality shit! Oh and I totally despise the mentally disabled, poor peoples kids, and stray dogs. Find a way to get a viable third party and I am all ears. I am a fiscal conservative first. I have stances on all of those issues, and they lean more towards the conservative view, but they are secondary to me. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

I think your the exception, not the general rule. Otherwise politicians, in my opinion, wouldn't pander so much to the Christian Right in order to win in the primaries. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Please show me in the bible where it specifically advocates a prefrence of helping those who can help themselves. Please show me where in the bibble where its writters emphasised social welfare over personal responsibility. There is a huge difference between helping those that are in need, that are helpless, who need defense... and the way things are administered in this country. There is a huge difference between offereing a hand up, which in my opinion is one of the concepts that Jesus stood for, and a system that promotes full dependence on government support. I think a lot of people "get it". I dislike the "christian right" and their agenda just as much as I dislike the liberal left and their agenda. Unfortunately they are considered the "base" since your moderate voters don't bother enough about politics to go to primaries, etc. I wish the "christian right" would get pushed out of the party. I don't give two shits about abortion, gay marrage, religion in school, if it causes the party to keep losing ground and the country is getting destroyed in the meantime! If the S&TA was in good standing when they signed it shouldn't matter at all that they are now no longer in good standing in regards to their membership. I don't see the connection between their current status, and what they did in the past. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Why didn't you see pictures of line twist and an explanation of how to deal with them in your ground school. Get off the net and go ask your instructors! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Wow, I agree with Quade for the first time... [Not really, I guess, but the quote still applies.] The problem in California are the people suckling at the teat of this welfare state. Come from Latin / Central America, have babies which are automatically citizens. Get free medical care, food stamps, education, etc. Now don't think I'm just picking on the illegals. There are plenty of others with a hand out. T he Dems who control the state legislature never met an entitlement that they didn't like. They (and Arnold) have spent themselves into such a hole that even after passing the largest tax increase ever in February, they're still billions in the hole, and want more taxes. Someone who makes good money will sure look at that before moving here, and those who are a drain on the system will continue to arrive in droves. So what is your definition of excessive public services? It sounds like public services that the government can't afford, that are overwhelmingly distributed to individuals who aren't bearing any of the burden of funding them. I tend to agree with you, but I can simplify it further and remove my opinion on social programs, if you can't fund it you don't offer it. PERIOD. COPS. WELFARE. SCHOOLS. HEALTHCARE. EVERYTHING. If the expense doesn't match the revenue you cut services until they do. It is not impossible to raise revenue through growing the economy. In my book it is very desirable, combined with financially responsible government. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
Excessive is a level of "public service" that requires goverment revenue to rise year after year. Government spending that is maxed out to the upper limits of the budget in good years is not sustainable, that would fit my definition of excessive. Capital gains revenue doesn't go up year after year. I can find six year olds with a pretty good grasp of this concept, but no state legislators with the same comprehension. Public services that require government revenue raising at a level that hurts state economic growth is excessive, it is also not sustainable since citizens can get up and leave. Big government is not a going concern. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
What is an optimal level of "public services"? What is the minimal acceptable level of "public services"? What is an excessive level of "public services"? I am an accountant. I like budgets, I am not oposed to paying for services, or against states generating revenues. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Your free to disagree, much as I disagree with your generalization that some one leaving a state because they find the income tax system is unfair, is somehow an abuse of the commons. Abuse of the commons... my neighbor is going to overgraze, so I might as well do it myself. Big goverment is overgrazing their economies. The citizens providing the significant source of tax revenue are no more to blame for states declines than the grass is to blame when too many cattle are left to graze because the next guy is going to do it any way. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Yay big goverment. Please take more of my rights... I am soooooooooo helpless without you. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

See entries in encyclopedia for "tyranny of the majority". Politicians and many individuals can't see the forest through the trees. They have political ambitions that they put before the overall good of their state. Individuals project petty jelously towards individuals that are sucessful, when it is their own lack of skill, effort, or risk adversion that is to blame for their own condition. The real pity is that big government and the welfare state built around capable yet lazy citizens are crushing their own states economies. Much better to tax those that work hard and take risks than to demand personal responsibility and consequences. Bite the hand that feeds you! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

If the blow decreases the chance that the officer will be forced to get a itchy trigger finger, isn't it a win for the cop and for the perp? I think this may be a case where being agressive and staying on step ahead of things is safer in the long run then being passive and having to react to a later situation (blam blam)! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
