  1. This is directed at those more experienced jumpers out there. Currently, I'm jumping a PD260 (old student gear) and I enjoy playing under canopy and trying new things. Over the weekend, I was just doing a left spiral, and when i brought it back up, the right side of the canopy took a scary dive forward, basically coming down in front of me. It was similar to when I come out of a stall too fast. I certainly wasn't expecting it, and it was quite startling. My question is, what would be just plain stupid to do under canopy? I'm sure there's alot that can be done safely (with plenty of altitude of course). Mainly, what I'm concerned about is getting stuck above my canopy, and everything going to hell FAST. Have you done anything under canopy that scared you half to death? Any tips and stories that you can share I'm sure can help all less experienced jumpers. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  2. I think that if the pilot told me to get out...I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'd likely be scared half to death, but I would still exit. From the advice I read here, I think that over my next jumps, I should start working on building my comfort at lower altitudes. I suppose it could start with lower deployment from high altitude jumps and go from there. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  3. :1:0 Although I went up in the airplane three times...damn I hate clouds that just won't stay put What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  4. I'll tell you about my day today. I went out to do a few jumps today at a DZ that I've never been to before. We were estimating that the clouds were at a few thousand feet, so a load was sent up (C-206). I managed to be on the first load. The clouds were at about 2,900'. At this point in my jumping career and having been trained by AFF, I'm not that comfortable jumping at any less than 3'500, so I landed with the plane. I went up a couple loads later, with clouds at 5k and I jumped and landed fine (which at least gave me my fix for the day ) About mid afternoon, after a load just came down from 4k, I decided to head up again. We reached the ceiling at about 2'400 or so, and again, everyone jumped. Now, I'm not ashamed that I stayed with the plane but I'm curious what others are comfortable jumping in and why. Do you just follow the USPA recommendations, or do you just follow your instincts? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  5. Not that I speak from alot of experience, (and I've never had a cutaway) but my thoughts is that double redundancy is plenty in any given circumstance. Too much stuff just means there more shit that can go wrong. I've heard about those cases where a person wears a third parachute, because they know they're getting rid of one of them. With this intentional cutaway, is it much safer to have a backup, instead of getting rid of a perfectly good canopy, and only having one left. Maybe someone with a bit more experience can add more to my thoughts. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  6. I'd say...the more women the better, in anything you're doing. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  7. it seems like I'm always at work...and I'm always bored, I'm sensing a pattern. Luckily, it's nice and warm in Toronto right now, and the forecast for blue skies tomorrow, so finally I get to jump again. That's the only thought that'll get me through today.
  8. Believe me, once you take the first BIG step, it'll forever change your life. I just can't get enough
  9. I would if I could...but I'm in Canada, and still stuck at work What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  10. I've got nothing to lose. No family. No Girlfriend. No Cat. If I died, the only ones to lose out (besides me) would be my banker, cause suddenly...he'd be out ALOT of money. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  11. There are differences in licensing programs. From what I know, the "A" "B" "C" "D" are recognized world-wide. however, there are some other licenses that are not. I recently received my Solo Certificate. In Canada, this means that I have the ability to skydive safely without superivsion, but do not yet have the skills of a "A" license holder. This Solo is not recognized in the US, and therefore I am prevented from jumping there. (except for Skydive City...Thanks TK) I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but it's at least a story of one country license vs another. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  12. That's just what I needed to bright up my day. Thanks mama. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  13. Similar to you, the only thing that comes to my mind is the fear of dieing alone. And rejection follows a close second. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  14. 0:0:0 Spent a weekend at a DZ with no aircraft. It's a sad time of the year with the DZ shuts down for winter. Looks like no more jumps till Skydive City this Christmas What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  15. I'll talk to my rigger and get his thoughts on my line condition. I'm sure they're still good for now, but at least now I know what to look out for. Thanks. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  16. yea...I've been thinking about it. I've been here since august, and it's the purest of corporate profit seekers that I've ever seen. A non-profit would be nice. I'd like to start my own business...but I just don't have the money. For now, (until I can save) I'm stuck. Maybe another interview will turn up though. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  17. I know how you feel...my job is so dull, even when there are things to do. It'd be ok if I liked my co-workers, but they're bitchy & stuck-up. I'm glad though that I can close my door, turn on my music, surf, and ignore them all. The way today went though...I think I'll leave early...to hell with the consequences. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  18. I recently purchased a new rig, PD 9 Cell 260. I had this inspected and was told that it is in good condition, but I have a question about the lines. When do they need to be replaced and how will I know? I know that lines can stretch, and become out of trim, but how will this affect the performance of the canopy? Is this something easily noticeable? Is there a recommended number of jumps between each new set of lines? What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  19. Does Canada count? Just a short drive away.
  20. That guy is a dumb ass...but he is one hell of a tough dumb ass to take that kind of punishment. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  21. If I say Jump Tickets...does that mean something is wrong with me What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
  22. I haven't had a family in many years, and I simply comfort myself among friends. Since I started skydiving, I realized that I can find friends at any dropzone around. That said...this christmas, I'm driving to florida (from toronto) to stay at Skydive City for 10 days. I'll be doing the thing I love the most. What goes up, must come DOWN!!!
