  1. Not only is it possible, it is required by quantum mechanics that stuff comes into existence from nothing. Perhaps Wernher Heisenberg is God. Umm...wouldn't it more be that Heisenberg discovered god? I'm uncertain.
  2. Silly Neo-Con.....more PA's dont help the discussion... Neither does ducking the issue. I'd still like someone to show the similarities between present-day US and June 1939 Germany!!! You know... a direct comparison between actual circumstances in the presentday U.S., to Germany in 1939. Here ya go I'm sure you'll disagree with every link on there, but at least here is a list of comparisons and links to dozens of comparisons, books, articles, and opinions.
  3. Jan, if you won't be flying the camera, then virtually any digital cam can do this. FWIW, DPI isn't how we measure cameras; we measure by resolution ie; 2000 x 1800, etc. DPI is a print/paper reference. For fast ground work, I use an Oly 5050, available for a couple hundred bucks at any store or Ebay. Taking images at a high rez and then down converting size for the web is a common way to work, and a better way to work. Starting with high resolution and moving your way down is better than shooting at the final delivery resolution when the target for output is low quality. if you want to fly the camera, I'm not aware of any cheapies that can be easily modified for a tongue/bite switch. This means you're looking at a DSLR, or modifying an Elph or something along those lines. Most of the cheap cams can be timed/have intervalometers on them.
  4. From a box of Crackerjacks? Quantum evolutionists/theorists have some interesting ideas on the subject of god, and allows for "divinity" in the process. Man invented god, even if god happens to be actual/real. I'm no scientist by any stretch, but reading books such as "Quantum Evolution" by Johnjoe McFadden is incredibly enlightening. Truly gives meaning to the word "Enthus" or "God within." The concept of the evolution of consciousness leads one to a possible conclusion that "we are god." If nothing else, it's the most logical presentation I've read.

    Shopping rant

Now that's showing some imagination. Hmmm....electronic ordering coupled with personal service. I like it.
  6. Of course they do. And premature openings occur with every kind of container, and canopies tear regardless of the brand or fabric. That's not the discussion here. I'm of the opinion that I want to use tube stoes because of concern for out of sequence deployments, they wear longer, they seem to hold form whereas rubber bands stretch and become loose more easily (making out of sequence more likely). I also recognize that microline and small tube stoes don't mix, and am aware (and comfortable) that the round nature of tube stoes may not have as much contact with the lines. What I'm looking for is any reasonable data that says the small mil-spec rubber bands cause less line dump, bag lock or any other malfunction vs Silibands, tube stoes, or the larger black bands found everywhere. In other words, I'm aware of the arguments against rubber bands, but would like to hear a "why"/experience vs an opinion tossed out on the table. Wouldn't you like to have more information as well?
  7. not in the least ashamed. The Bush family profited handsomely as a result of Prescott Bush's involvement with the Nazi's, for starters. Prescott Bush helped Hitler rise to power. Add to that the fact that *many* liberal and conservative groups have drawn those parallels over the past 6 years. GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH (R-TX), PRESIDENT-ELECT: "I told all four that there were going to be some times where we don't agree with each other. But that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." Source: CNN Bush said he would like to be a dictator because it would sure make things easier. Hitler said about the same thing, then he became a dictator. Since the sole difference between a dictatorship and a democracy is that the leaders are popularly elected by the masses of people rather than by seizing office by force, being appointed by an elite or by assuming power via a fixed election there can be no other way to describe the Bush administration than as a dictatorship. Whether Bush's election's were "fixed" or not will be a source of debate for all of the future, by minds much greater than yours or mine. I fall on the side that it was fixed. Apparently you don't. I'm not ashamed of my opinion any more than you likely are ashamed of yours. The difference is, I'm not telling you that you should be ashamed. Last I checked, we're both entitled to our opinions. I'm quite sure we've both got greater things in our lives to be ashamed of, don't we?
  8. Care to elaborate? Please? 34 years and 3400 jumps is a lot of experience but not enough of an explanation of how you arrive at your statement. I'm jumping tube stows now, but if they're an accident waiting to happen, I'm all ears. My second rig is plain ole' black rubber bands like you'll find on any DZ.
  9. CReW, are you saying that tube stows or Silibands will cause a baglock over the Mil-spec/tan rubber bands?
  10. At any Utah DZ, you wouldn't have gotten off the ground (All DZ's are above 4KMSL). I'm not an instructor, but don't you think that asking an adrenaline-wracked fourth jump student to find the altimeter on the dashboard of an aircraft and then calculate the diff between MSL and AGL is a bit much? All said, is it possible our responses are likely more than a fourth jump-SL student is prepared for anyway?
  11. I'm in agreement with you. Where I'm in disagreement is the intimation that it's black kids/parents causing the disruption. It has happened in our schools, which are predominantly Hispanic and Native American, but it's the wealthy white folks making the most noise. Not suggesting white folks are worse; I'm suggesting that it's an across-the-board issue with multiple levels of meaning an demeaning. While I think this particular school handled the situation poorly, hopefully it sent a message that will urge parents to behave appropriately during future ceremonies.
  12. I dunno about the racial comments, this sort of crap happens out here where we don't have black kids. None. However, for reasons of respect, this sort of cheering has been curtailed. Rich white kids have all their friends, grandparents, both sets of parents (majority are of divorced households) and whomever else. They show up with party poppers, banners, and airhorns. Not only can people around them not hear what is being said, but it also sets up a social imbalance. Rich, popular kids get 2-3 mins of cheering while not so popular kids get nothing or next to nothing. The graduates all achieved the same damn thing; why should anyone get any more (or less) recognition from the crowd? Black, brown, or green?
  13. Lincoln-Appointed William Dole as director of Indian Affairs, who subsequently stole virtually all the allocated goods and sold them, causing many people to starve, and more importantly, created the concept of "renegade Indian" that required military forces to be sent to the area, escalating to the point of multiple massacres. Lincoln blew it off. Just as Johnson rolled the ball that eventually became the war in Viet Nam, Lincoln started the ball rolling for the Greasy Grass war. His ever famous quote regarding Native Americans; “I think the authors of that notable instrument intended to include all men, but they did not intend to declare all men equal in all respects. They did not mean to say that all men were equal in color, size, intellect, moral development, or social capacity.” Abraham Lincoln, 1858 He also ordered the largest execution in US history (to date) at Mankato. Grant-delivered blankets ridden with small pox to tribes of the central plains, passing the disease that nearly decimated the entire race. He was intent upon seizing the Black Hills from the plains peoples, wanting the gold contained therein. He hated blacks, Native Americans, "greasers" (in his words), and laid the rails upon which the Ku Klux Klan ran their train of hate across the South. Both "great" men, noted for their humanity. Sure, they both achieved great things, but so has Bush. A monster can't be a monster *all* the time. Sherman and Lee, I have no knowledge of one way or another. IMO, claiming "God is on my side" is merely subtext for "I'm a corrupt, indecent whore and you're too stupid to realize it or too weak to do anything about it." If nothing else, last night's debate provided a great demonstration of this level of arrogance. "Jesus is at my side" combined with a complete inability to demonstrate any sense of humanity. Watching that debate was a great demonstration to the world that the US has apexed, and like all great empires, is falling significantly faster than she rose. Personally, it made me a little ill.
  14. I call "Bullshit" on that statement. The MOST anyone can say about Bush's statement is that the translator might have missed context, but both sides agree the translation was accurate.
  15. I cannot think of a single great and/or decent leader that has invoked the name of god as a personal protector and familiar in the process of engaging an enemy in war, that has been a decent human being. Doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I cannot come up with a name. Saying "God bless America" is very different from "God is at my side, and God wants me to do this." FWIW, in my daily life, doesn't matter what I'm doing, or whom I may be doing it for. When "God supports this" or "God is with us on this project" comes into the mix, I walk away immediately. That sort of delusional behavior is one that I've learned to avoid at all costs. Nothing good can come of it. And I'm not a politician. I have no need to be politically correct, and rarely am. The inclusion of 'god' in a political statement is nothing more than an attempt to justify actions that cannot be justified, IMO.
  16. Indeed. His favorite aspect of America was the closed immigration policy, specifically he cited the Johnson Act of 1921. However, Hitler *did* invite people of Germanic descent and Nordic bloodlines to become part of his empire. Hitler additionally wrote of his admiration at the US policy to sterilize mentally ill people and the eugenics boards of the early quarter of the last century. Unfortunately, the US would not accept Hitler's Jews either. A fairly direct tie to the Holocaust may be found in US history and our rejection of the Jews. Fortunately, the Johnson Act was repealed in 1965, just a tad late for those people. Instead, the US has allowed unfettered immigration, resulting in high minority crime, soaring unemployment rates, reduction of wages, and decimation of the English language (Used to be one had to speak English to immigrate). All that said, I take personal responsibility that my ancestors didn't enact better immigration controls. But all parallels drawn, I think that the "in-common" column between George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler would have more plus marks than the "not-in-common" column comparisons, even if they're not entirely on the same side of immigration reform. Oh wait! Until the GOP realized the size of the Hispanic voting bloc, they WERE on the same side...
  17. yeah, we surely wish we could give it away for free, after all, it is just information. Didn't cost Norm anything to learn it, nor all those loads to shoot it, and the XDCAM's? We got those for free too, and of course, we're all sponsored so we got dozens of camera helmets, jumpsuits, ringsights, HypEye's, Conceptus switches, and all that licensed footage People were just beating down our doors to provide us with great pictures and video...(not) The list of people that helped out is huge; this was a large undertaking. Phreezone, AFFI, LouDiamond, Curt Bachman, and a few others helped shape the final product as it went from being a two volume, $79.00 each disc @ 110 mins per disc to a single dual layer at 3 hours, to a two disc set @$99.00 with over four hours of content. Pending the success of this one, we'll move ahead to some very advanced stuff from Norman, some of it already in the can. Watching Norman fly, seeing how he sets up for taking some of his breathtaking shots is simply....simple yet amazing. It's more a thought process than anything else. Of course, with 30 years of flying in the sport and more than 20K skydives in every discipline one can imagine...no wonder he's one of the kings in the sport. It's been a huge honor and learning experience to produce this for Norman. Hopefully we'll soon see a full-length review from someone as these start to ship in a week or so. They're in replication now. Many thanks to the great sponsors that helped both Norman and I fly. PD, Bonehead, Skysystems USA, Sony, Canon, Manfrotto, and Skydive Utah was hugely helpful in getting us up in the air for many of the aerial shots. Additional footage was shot at Deland. Scott Campos also provided some terrific Birdman shots used for perspective commentary. I'm currently on the road, but will upload some vid from Disc One as well. It breaks down as Disc One providing nomenclature, gear, jumpsuits, cameras, mounts, and all the tools you'll want to have, and how to set them up. Disc Two gets into the flying, where to be, how to set up, danger zones, and LOTS of extras including discusions on HD, editing gear, and my favorite part where Norman sits down with me and we chat for over 30 mins about several subjects. He's a very personal and personable presenter/speaker. I'm a much better flyer for having had the experience with him, and we tried very hard to let the exact experience carry over into the DVD.
  18. We've come a long way since the major broadcast controversy of Alan Alda/Hawkeye Pierce saying "You son of a bitch!" to a Korean MP. Our local stations *still* silence that portion. Can't help but wonder about the politicians using this, one could argue they're no longer "politically correct."
  19. "Who says I am not under the direct protection of God? I am." ~Adolf Hitler "God Wills It!"~cry of the Crusaders "Bush resembles Moses who just crossed the River, leading his people to the Mountain and from there to the Promised Land."~Marc Craig/President’s personal minister. "God told me to strike at al Qaida and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did..." George W. Bush
  20. Ordered a new HypEye, and was surprised to find that it wasn't like my old one. Was a VERY pleasant surprise to see how small it is, and how much brighter still, than the old one. The clear shrink on the mini allows greater brightness, but also allows for the entire area to "glow" based on how light is distributed. The indicator is roughly 1/3 the width of the older one. It's bright enough that it doesn't need to be very close to the ring sight if you don't want, IMO. What blows is now that I've seen the new version, I need to replace my old one on another helmet because I like the new/improved over the old. Emailed Trunk and he informed me that he's only selling the new one. Was a welcome surprise. There is a little information on the gethypoxic.com website, but no pix that compare the old vs new in terms of size/brightness.
  21. Could have been much worse
  22. It'll ship with an introductory $99.00 price for the two DVDs. MSRP is $129.00.
  23. We use a model release at our DZ as well. We're a little copyright-cautious compared to most DZ's, we also don't use copyrighted songs (or rather, most of our guys don't, but a couple do, they just don't get uploaded to the web, ever).
