A firewire protocol is just that, a protocol. PAL or NTSC, or even NTSC-J, it's all carried in the same data stream. That said, you *cannot* capture PAL and display it on an NTSC television (television being different than a computer display). PAL is 50MHz, NTSC is 60MHz. Many video editing applications today can convert PAL to NTSC and vice-versa. If you're outputting to DVD, most applications allow you to capture PAL and output an NTSC DVD or vice-versa. If you're transferring from a PAL camcorder to an NTSC camcorder via firewire, you'll either need a hardware converter (sounds like you have one) or you'll need to convert it in your computer and then print to tape as PAL/NTSC. Hopefully this didn't make the subject more confusing.

Are they? Dots can be drawn relatively easily, if you would like. As mentioned earlier, try "Quantum Evolution" by McFadden. If having will is a matter of consciousness, and consciousness is an element of quantum environment (the brain does generate an EMF) then can it be said that human will (the soul) is a focus of consciousness expressed in the form of focused neurons? Perhaps this inexplicable control of function can be defined as "God within." In other words, god comes from us. Enthus.

Congrats on the achievement!

If I might hijack this thread a bit... Does anyone know if the LED that plugs into the Optima may be bent a bit? I'd like to put it next to my HypEye on my ringsight, but it would require bending. If not, does anyone know of a flexible LED indicator that might plug into the Optima? Does it seem strange to anyone else that the indicator isn't just a small LED at the end of a flexible cable?

...that "look" from someone experiencing a major "click" in the air? Had a student today that has been through a few problems with fall rate, spinning, and general stability (or so I'd been told and his logbook reflected). Went out with a slightly jumbled exit and got him to relax, after which I released him, backed off, and got him to fly to me, and dock just before our breakoff. The look on his face was priceless, I could hear him yelling as he docked on my wrists. The grin on his face stayed long into the afternoon as we waited for winds to die in hopes for a second jump (didn't happen). I know...coaching probably isn't a big deal to a lot of people, but seeing the look on this guy's face made all the $$ spent in the effort to become a coach worth it (for me). I assume AFF is even better.

5:9:1 Winded out after one jump today. Never had a day where the wind changed so much from takeoff to landing. Flying backward on landing is overrated.

Couple that ending with the Journey song at the end leaves one wondering what the spin-off will be. I wonder how many televisions got smacked around tonight from people screaming "WTF?????" at the screen?

but have you ever bowled while skydiving? I should add that my *one* painful skydiving-related injury was in the tunnel at Perris. I got too close to the side of the tunnel, lost my air, and went down headfirst. Put a nasty scratch in my helmet, glad it wasn't my skull. Saw stars for a second and needed to be helped out. Tunnels may be safer but they're not "safe."

I've seen sub 100 number jumpers that can hit the tuffet or very close to it every time, and seen jumpers with a few hundred jumps not come close. It all depends on what you're working on. If you decide to make accuracy a priority, then your accuracy will likely improve. If you don't, and landing in a large general area is good enough, then your accuracy will probably stay in a "general" area. FWIW, I pick an accuracy spot before boarding the aircraft. Can be a patch of weeds, might be a different color in the dirt/grass/ground, could be a pylon in the field, or any other landmark that isn't going to hurt you if you land on it. Try a dozen jumps with only accuracy in mind once you're under canopy. I'll bet your percentage rises quickly.

REVIEW: "Aerial Camera", What you need to know with Norman Kent
DSE replied to LouDiamond's topic in Photography and Video
One short section from Disc One is up on YouTube. -
Yup. Looks like it's finally shipping. It was an impressive audible, IMO. It has variable tones, variable frequencies, and a wide volume control. I'd like to get my hands on one, as I can't always hear my Dytter, it's at a fixed frequency that is somewhat of a 'hole' in my hearing. Metal, heavy, and standard size.

jee, thanks for the link and thanks to everyone else for the info. They are indeed Infinity, easy to tell by the logo. Shoulda figured that out myself. I'll order a set on Monday.

Exhibit some before you claim the high ground. Hmmm....so according to you, I should not only be "ashamed" of my opinion, but I should also be religious in order to be permitted that opinion? Nice.

Anyone know who builds PD's risers that come on their demo canopies? I'd like to obtain a set of them, but PD doesn't offer them on their website.

This could start a shitstorm, but I had this conversation the other day with some newer jumpers. I personally don't think the skyhook is a god enough reason to buy any sport rig alone. Its cool if you want it, I personally dont think it serves too much of a purpose above and beyond a normal rsl in a sport jumping sense, and I dont think you (not you inparticular) should buy a rig soley based on getting the skyhook. Buy a rig cause its comfortable, cause you like the pin protection, cause you like the style. I think the skyhook craze has people thinking they are safer because of it and that just isnt true. I have seen people not know how the system functions and have rigged it improperly (collins lanyard) so that it in fact wont function as advertised), where as a normal rsl is either on or off. And the notion that people can cut away lower because of this piece of equipment will eventually lead to someone getting seriously hurt or killed if it does fail to function. like bill says, as gear gets better, people push the limits more and more to keep the fatality rate constant. If you get a javelin or a vector, sure get a skyhook. If you like an infinity, get one, even though it doesnt have the skyhook yet. Save your own life, dont count on a backup device. A normal rsl will get your reserve out too, even if it is 2-300 feet later. Camera-flyer...I don't want a skyhook. Or RSL

The claims made on the page you link to contain some stretches of the truth, no doubt. I indicated some of the 50+ links I provided aren't exactly entirely factual either. What about the remaining 95%? The page you link to has a lot of truth, just that it's heavy on the rhetoric and bending of truth. Like most tales, it is indeed founded upon truths. So, you've now found a page that was created by a nutjob. How does that stack up against the Post, Times, Journal, Tribune, CNN, MSNBC, and many other media sources? You still think it's "specious? A huge percentage of the world has an opinion and you feel their speculating? I guess faith once again prevails over reason and rationality.

If the tandem waiver doesn't specifically spell out that you (the photog) are a WFH/Work For Hire, then the ownership of the content is specifically yours (the photog). If your DZO had you sign a WFH, then the copyright is specifically his. You, as the photog, are in exactly the same position as a wedding photographer or corporate photographer that is hired to shoot an event; the negatives and copyright reside with the photographer unless you've specifically agreed that it's a Work For Hire (yes, it's a legal term).

There is no PAL/NTSC for still images, this designation is for video only. That said, a computer doesn't know the difference between NTSC and PAL for playback, although some DVD playback software does. PAL/NTSC are display related. As mentioned, avoid cams that use AA batteries, you'll chew through them fast, especially if the cam displays the picture after taking it. A USB card reader will cost you around 15.00, and most of them read multiple card formats. USB2 connection, and you're ready to fly. One option

"Specious claims?" What planet are you living on? [edit] Uncle. I give up on this one. A subject on which Time Magazine, CNN, political commentators, comedians, satirists, Saturday Night Live, political cartoonists, and at least a percentage of the world's population have made reference to is "specious" in your view? Wow. I'm stunned. You might not agree, but to call it "specious?" Your signature says it all, an explains why Bush is still in office, and how Hitler rose to power.

Silly Neo-Con.....more PA's dont help the discussion... Neither does ducking the issue. I'd still like someone to show the similarities between present-day US and June 1939 Germany!!! You know... a direct comparison between actual circumstances in the presentday U.S., to Germany in 1939. Here ya go I'm sure you'll disagree with every link on there, but at least here is a list of comparisons and links to dozens of comparisons, books, articles, and opinions. No disagreement, but definitely a case of information overload. Where specifically is there a direct comparison between actual circumstances in the presentday U.S., to Germany in 1939? Providing links like the one above is kind of like pointing someone to a set of Encyclopedias in lieu of presenting a valid, supported premise. There is this thing, apparently not too popular any longer, but it's called "Reading." Click a link related to the subject you'd like to know/learn more about. Read the words that accompany the link. You'll find what you're looking for there, I promise. You might not like it, but it's all there, mostly in black and white, except some of the pages are blue/white.

http://www.rigginginnovations.com Have had Jav, demoed Wings, and currently own a Vector along w/a Talon2FS. Tried on a Talon FX (new model) and felt it was the most comfortable rig I've worn. it's like a Voodoo and Talon merged. To my knowledge, never had a flap open. Never had anyone fix my flap, during spotting or otherwise.

It's not being frivolous with your cash, it's training yourself to use the right tools. Put differently, buy a hammer to pound a nail, buy a screwdriver to open a can of paint (OK, just kidding). If your goal is to learn to fly a camera, a couple suggestions for the time being; 1-Learn to fly around others. Try to avoid flying on your own. 2-Do as much relative work as possible. 3-Learn the art of communication; asking questions about who is doing what, and learn to communicate what you're doing to them. 4-Spend a lot of time working various fall rates. Jump with skinny people, jump with not-so-skinny people. Tall people, short people. Fly with coaches. When you do get wings, you'll quickly learn that they aren't for helping you fly, they're for helping you fine-tune the flying you already know how to do. Learn to fly your body first.
