You'll get no argument from me, but the EBS is carried over television, thus necessitating subsidized converters for those that can't afford them. Dave, your HD CRT will probably require a converter. The quality of that converter (read "how many $$ you spend on it") will determine the quality or lack thereof, of your picture. If you're already using a cable box sending HD, then you've likely got nothing to be concerned about.
-
If your television is a CRT (big, heavy, thick, ugly thing) then in all likelihood, it's analog. If it only has coax or RCA connections on the back, it's analog. If you're using "good ol' fashioned rabbit ears," it's analog. Not all satellite providers are managing this, but the big names are doing it for you (Dishnet, etc). Be aware, it's very possible that by then, your satellite/cable provider may well be offering your local channels over sat/cable/fiber as well. IMO, the coupons are BS. There are several converters for 50.00 available now, and they are only getting cheaper. I wonder how many people realize that the picture looks like crap compared to a dig image? DTV and HDTV aren't the same thing, but most broadcasters are taking advantage of the gov grants to upgrade to HD broadcast at the same time, so the image on the crappy, older TVs as seen in this brochure, will have a worse picture after 2/17/09 than they do now, assuming that these old energy-eating boat anchors are still working at that time. If you can make it to NAB, I'm speaking on this very subject.

I'll probably bring the EX w/me, but you don't want me in any flock....but I hope to get some wingsuit instruction while I'm there.

After finally seeing the vid, it appears that your prism may have shifted, the sensor may have gunk on it, the prism may have gunk on it, or the backlens may have shifted (exceptionally unlikely, but worth mentioning). None of those are within my own expertise for a suggestive fix. It's optical, not electronic, because I can see encoding/compression flaws in both clear and artifacted image, suggesting the problem is with the image before it's being compressed.

Arriving on the 22 or 23rd through the 2nd or so.

I'd like to see a screen grab, as there are a couple things that could have caused this, none of which can be easily described. Hope that it's not damage to the sensor.

Apple does things differently, as I mentioned. HDV by its very design is 13GB per hour as stored on the linear tape. Apple transcodes it. If you use native capture tools, there is no transcode that takes place. iMovie before version 4 was destructive, and I'm pretty confident you can save a project with only used media in later versions, but I don't know how. I don't use iMovie other than to show little stuff here and there.

Do you believe there are three basic types of rocks?
DSE replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Or perhaps they believe these things as basic facts, but by nature of *who* is doing the asking, it causes people to question themselves. If Einstein posed what appears to be a basic question vs say....me posing that same question, you might see different responses? -
I'm not that familiar with home audio, but this is the sort of thing I'd be looking for.
-
Dunno how you can use it if it's only HDMI out, no input. How are you running the audio of your PS3 now? HDMI out to your television? Or using the AV out of your PS3? I don't see how you can use it, unless it's just HDMI into the second HDMI port of your television display? Maybe someone else has an idea

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that the majority (Jen, Krisanne, Pat) that have been invited to stay in various homes are of the female persuasion. if you're a male, expect fewer offers from skydivers.
-
Dunno why you would have purchased this if you have a PS3, that much is true. On the flip side, if you needed a surround system, then use it solely for that use, and ignore the DVD player. If it was a good deal.... Amplification power can be rated so many different ways, it's not even funny. It's worse than LUX ratings. Could be they're cumulating all the various outputs, could be they're rating only the sub at full power, dunno. Looks like a decent system, but with a PS3, I'd probably have just bought a surround receiver with HDMI input. Oops, that's exactly what I did.

Zing, I heard that about you...Lines on mirrors. that ws before they banned razor blades on airport property.

I'm tired of hearing complaints about USPA
DSE replied to Auryn's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh, I don't claim to be an expert in these things. I'd bet though if I was paid 100+K a year to run such an organization, I could probably find people to advise me on how to help increase participation. Not that it's relevant, but 100k a year, particularly in the DC area, ain't squat. For 100K a year, you can't afford to find anyone to advise you on the color of coffee cups one should use. Isn't that how democracy works? -
m2t represents Mpeg 2 Transport stream. Apple doesn't use this stream natively, although this is what all HDV camcorders output. Apple doesn't like muxed sources. Do you have MPEG StreamClip? By "archiving," do you mean that you're wanting to store the content found on your tapes on an HDD system? The tapes themselves are your "archives" but you might want backups. Or, are you wanting to archive edited footage as an accessible file to a hard drive and tapes? I'm assuming the former, not the latter? In that case, just capture using iMovie, Premiere, or FCS. Any of the above will suffice. Figure approx 13GB per hour, or 13GB of storage per tape. Archiving in .m2t is fine, but with an Apple system, it's not terribly efficient because it involves a transcode. If you're looking to archive the project, my personal preference is .mxf, which Final Cut works with very well.

Color, latitude, sharpness of image, DOF, saturation...lotsa benefits to the .5 sensor, plus the new Fuji design is very smooth. No distortion at even the widest edges.

But talk about snag hazard! Would be very cool to be able to mount something like this for skydiving, and/or swooping. Oops, had an extra " in there. Thanks McCordia

Here is the entire article/request for entries. ######################################################## Share your memories of favorite Christmas Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Nov 23, 2007 For more than 100 years, the Deseret Morning News has published original Christmas stories, and in 1959 the paper started sponsoring what has come to be known as "Christmas I Remember Best." Entries are now being accepted for the 2007 contest. The stories should be original and approximately 700 to 800 words in length, or approximately two typewritten/printed pages, double-spaced. The winning entries will be published in the paper the week prior to and on Christmas Day. The editor/judges prefer stories that cover a wide range of Christmas experiences, including humor. Ideally, stories should be written using a computer. Legible handwritten entries are acceptable. The author's name, address, daytime and evening telephone numbers and e-mail address (if the entrant has one) must be included. Four to six stories will be chosen for publication, and the Deseret Morning News will present an honorarium of $50 to each winner. The deadline for submission is Friday, Dec. 3. Address or deliver entries to "Christmas I Remember Best," c/o Deseret Morning News, 30 E. 100 South, Suite 400, P.O. Box 1257, Salt Lake City, UT 84110. Fax 801-237-2528 or e-mail johnson@desnews.com. For questions or more information, call 236-6000. ########################################################### Perhaps the argument might be made that "over 100 years ago" there were only Mormons reading the Deseret News, and they've just never changed the rules, but at some point, they've obviously changed the rules because "over 100 years ago" there were no computers, but computers are specifically mentioned. Maybe they could argue that the "For more information, call" would have yielded more rules, except again...more than 100 years ago, there were no phones... (lame, but I'm being pissy).

Do you believe light travels at approximately 186,000 miles per second?
DSE replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Except during Daylight Savings Time. -
Frankly, I think the mother would be a fool to sue. Bad lesson for the child, and a sure loss of the lawsuit. Pretty hard to sue a religion over something like this, whether it's warranted or not. On the other hand, I hope she contacts media world-wide. The little girl (who was just on television news) said she wrote and submitted the essay without her mother knowing "hoping she'd win the 50.00 so she could buy her mom a nice gift this year." Apparently several people have made small donations, so that "nice gift" is likely happening anyway.

I don't know about JT, but after having started with MF and setting my lens to F8/inf...I started using AF, and was pretty happy. then I got a 40D, and find AF is the only way for me to fly. No worries about whether the cam has taken the shot, but rather, how fast can I get my tongue off the switch because it shoots too damn fast. I do shoot TV (Temporal) mode and keep ISO at either 100/200, however.

Which video editing program to buy for mac?
DSE replied to Supergeil's topic in Photography and Video
On a Mac, you got iMovie, Final Cut Express, Final Cut Studio, or Adobe Premiere. IMO, Premiere on the Mac currently sucks. FCE or FCS if you want more than iMovie, which is pretty darn powerful on its own. -
RE-READ the story. The contest was for the Deseret News. The editor of the Deseret News liked the story and submitted it to the Deseret News supplement, LDS Church News" who accepted it for publication prior to telling the young girl's mother it couldn't be published because she's not Mormon.
-
I agree with you Bill, excepting that the "rules of the contest didn't preclude Mormons or handicapped lesbian deaf eskimos. In other words, "You're a winner in our contest until we found out you're not Mormon and we failed to mention that you must be Mormon in our rules." No one would prevail in a lawsuit, but I don't think it's the legal principle that matters here.
