a-that article isn't entirely relevant, even if it were that cams were achieving only 240 lines. The dumbass that wrote it fails to account for Kell and other significant factors. b-The industry has accepted that 1080 whether p or i, has won. As predicted several years ago. In an article I wrote 2 + years ago, this was predicted, and I'm just a dumbass on the outside of that part of the industry. There is no argument from anyone who is remotely connectd with broadcast, production, acquisition, or editing, that 1080 has clearly, cleanly, and all but completely won this battle. Panasonic was the last diehard of 720, and even Panasonic has awakened, with their new cams all doing native 1080 i/p. Other than the JVC HDV camcorders, there is no single currently purchasable HD camcorder that does not do 1080.

Sony Page for the EX Lou Diamond wearing EX

That was my point. The underwater housing folks are also very tweaked about losing LANC. Sony hasn't listened to them, either, and Sony/Canon both distribute underwater housings made by third party companies. The underwater housing market is monstrous by comparison to the skydiving world.

I did read it your post, but perhaps wasn't clear in how I responded. ~Sony didn't discontinue LANC. You want it, build a tape-based camcorder and license it. Sony OEM will gladly license it to you. Sony Electronics merely stopped licensing it from their brother. ~Consumers don't care about remote over wire. The camcorders that have offered remote over wire using LANC have all been consumer-low end prosumer at best. Z1 and XLH1 are the highest end camcorders offering LANC. In other words, remote control isn't all that important. ~Control over other connectors is possible, but very expensive. Again...Sony doesn't care. Consumers don't care. Consumers get wireless remotes that do as much and more (shot markers, etc) than LANC or control over other sources can offer. ~Sony has always left this to third parties anyway. Always. They don't even build their own LANC controller accessories. Sony Electronics is interested in reducing boutique SKU's, not increasing them. Re-read my post, and you'll catch that I've already had these conversations with Tanaka, Takeushi, and Kanta, the primary three guys that design and generate marketing most of these small camcorders. I'll have the conversation again in 2 weeks at the CES. They simply don't care. It's not even a minor budget item, let alone one worth considering. We (and other sports that use these functions) just don't matter at any considerable level. Consumers barely use their wireless systems. There has been talk about getting rid of wireless altogether too. That'll really mess up the underwater housing folks who are already very tweaked about the loss of LANC. You think we have it bad....they make $7500.00 housings that need LANC or other wired remotes. And they're making do with what is upcoming. Just as we will. Skydivers got by prior to CamEye systems. Professional cam ops get/got by just fine prior to LANC as well. The next thing folks'll be up in arms about is the loss of in-camera transitions.

Nice idea, but effectively meaningless. Sony OEM owns LANC. Not Sony Electronics. Sony OEM decides the price of LANC, not Sony Electronics. If Sony OEM raises the price too high, then Sony Electronics isn't going to license it. And Sony OEM doesn't give a crap about skydiving, marketing, or anything else. Additionally, LANC (currently) is relegated to tape-based camcorders. Tape-based camcorders are going the way of the round parachute. I can give you the names of those involved in Japan. They simply don't care. It's less than pennies to them. If you could get skydivers to pre-commit to orders in the 50K unit range...they'd maybe consider it, assuming tape-systems are still on-line. File-based recording is where Sony and Canon (the only two licensees of LANC) are heading. I'm *sure* you'll eventually see other solutions; I've been experimenting and I know others are too. LANC (currently) cannot be licensed to file-based recording systems. Meanwhile...get used to the idea that once tape is gone, so is LANC.

You shoulda stayed in AZ.

have a hard time all you want. I waited. First wingsuit jump happened after 400 jumps for me. Your gig is your gig, but you sound exactly like a number of posters in this community that are no longer with us. They had fast reflexes too, they were exceptional, they were world-class __________. IMO, you'll probably do better saying "f**k you all, I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do" rather than try to justify why you're better than everyone else that waited at least, until they had the recommended number of jumps.

My contribution to the holiday spirit. (no children's voices) Same songwith children's voices The song is called "Doo iit' saa' da'a" which translates to "Another Silent Night." Peaceful holidays to everyone.

Maybe I'm too conservative, but it *was* offered to me as early as 90 jumps, and I turned it down. Not because of the regs, but because I didn't feel I was ready. Given the troubles I experienced on my first jump, I'm glad I waited. The story of crossing the freeway blindfolded applies here. One day or another, something will happen. If you're not prepped for it... And therein lies the reason for the recommended number of jumps.

Skydive Arizona/Eloy isn't at all too big for students, it's a great learning center, IMO. Great vibe, good people, multiple landing areas, lots of outs. Good place to become a skydiver. Haven't been to the others, only know people that work at them. SDAZ is the #1 DZ in the US for a reason...

Even though I'd buy the Zune too, Apple has effectively done away with DRM, they just use a format for the iPod that is proprietary, and won't allow wma on their devices. wma is superior at equal bitrates, and at equal sizes, FLAC is FAR superior (being the best format possible at comparable filesizes) and Apple won't support FLAC, although it's reported that Zune will soon support FLAC. I hope so, I'll buy a new/bigger Zune when that happens.

yeah! I wish that had been a little longer myself. There's always the next boogie.

Scott took me up yesterday, learned a lot more from him than I'd anticipated, and learned I've got a lot more to learn. Wasn't my first wingsuit jump, but it was my first in terms of having a clue what was *really* going on. After my jump with Scott, I got the purple wrist band and did a jump on my own. Was hoping for more jumps today, but so far, we're winded out. Looking forward to jumping w/you, Sean.

plagiarism is plagiarism. Period. It's a nice word for "theft/stealing/appropriation." I'm stunned at how many vidiots are willing to defend their footage and their pictures (read Skyride threads for many "They stole my pictures" but use someone else' music in their videos. Theft is theft, no matter what level of import you assign it. But that too, is a whole 'nother discussion.

Y'know...for all the Goth folks out there, a full-sized kit of cross, hammer, nails...a basic "DIY Crucifixion kit" might sell well!

To suggest one has a "deep rooted hatred for Apple because they don't want an iPod" is equally retarded if not moreso. Having an iPod Classic (third one in 3 years) a Nano, and a Zune, I prefer the Zune. Better build, better picture by far, easier to upload/download, can be used with many interfaces vs only iTunes...All I can say is "Thank God my Macs don't function as badly as my iPods have." I like my nano, but it doesn't do video. Why to not like iPods? Because they routinely fail, and Apple doesn't do anything for the owner of a failed iPod unless the owner pays a 250.00 repair fee. Almost as cheap as a new one. I can sweat on my Zune or Nano, but not on my iPod. I can drop my Zune or Nano, but not my iPod. I never would actually buy an iPod, receiving a couple as gifts are the only reason I'd own one. And I don't have a "deep-seated hatred for Apple or something retarded like that." Apple gets a fair chunk of change from me every year, given that we own 40 Apple laptops and at least 10 powerhouse desktops.

If your DZ is a 182 DZ, the customer might not be a choice. Either it's one load per customer with maybe a fun jumper, or it's two tandems on the load with handi-cam. If the customer wants outside video, they might have to wait a few loads, if it is available at all. Our DZ won't allow handi-cam for a variety of reasons. On the hand of a competent TI, it makes for decent vid IMO, and at the end of the day, the customer/student decides what is good or bad quality. If it "captures the moment" then they're usually happy. In a perfect world, IMO, the final video product contains shots from both handi-cam and outside. But it's not a perfect world.

This might help. Seems the 10D uses the same drivers as the 30D

Suit he's got is a little too tight for my fat ass, but it's close. Hoping to find a used fat-ass size from someone. Have to be practically naked underneath the suit because it fits too tight to wear even a long sleeve T. You bastard. I'm addicted. You're gonna have to teach me some stuff now.

'nother fun day, even though it is Xmas eve. DZ was busy, tho no skyvans running today. LouDiamond took me and a couple of others on wingsuit coach jumps, what a blast it was. Balloon had both a.m. and p.m. flights. It was gorgeous seeing the balloon with the full moon behind it. Afterwards, several of us had our Xmas eve dinner at the Bent Prop rather than driving out of the area. Was warm, beautiful day. One sight that came to mind was on one particular load, the entire load seemed to line up perfectly in the landing pattern, and made for some pretty pictures with how the canopies lined up so nicely.

I s'pose. IMO, it's just a tool. Maybe not a tool everyone is aware of, even though snipe software has been around for at least 10 years. It's not my fault that someone isn't aware of the tool. But it's still just a tool. I don't see any moral or ethical problem with having a computer bid for you as opposed to a person bidding. There always is the risk that someone else' snipe software is faster/better/higher value than yours. I've lost on snipe-software assisted bids as well. Is it cheating to know you can use a pull-up cord to remove a broken stoe band vs scissors?
-
I hope they don't. I use snipe software all the time. Helps me beat those "common folk."

Welcome to the sport, and if you think you have perma-grin now....just wait til you take your first jump and land it! Deland is an excellent place to learn. Great people, great facility, IMO.

LouDiamond jumped the XDCAM EX today on a wingsuit jump. Cam was set to 1280 x 720p mode, shooting 60fps. Smooth as butter. YouTube version is up, or high-resolution MP4 can be watched as well. Neither are HD, neither do justice. Everyone that saw it was stunned at the quality on the fairly horrible monitor in the Eloy packing area, sending SD composite vs HD component. I'll post pix of LouDiamond wearing the cam tomorrow (forgot to grab that particular CF card tonight).
