Just found out from Tonfly this morning, the additional/accessory plates won't be available for another 10 days or so.

What would make you read the parachutist again?
DSE replied to jtval's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So, do you appreciate the efforts a few of us are undertaking to see a camera section in there each month? are they too technical? Not technical enough? And maybe some gear introductions? more articles on "If you're in this situation, do THAT?" kind of thing? -
I believe respect is earned/given on a case-by-case basis and that most celebrities who do stuff to ostensibly make the world a better place are fakes and should indeed STFU. Walt They'll all work their asses off to earn your respect, particularly when you've opined that they should STFU. Since no one else' contribution is of value, I'd like to know what constitutes "making the world a better place?" What significant charitable contributions have you made?

They DO have a right to say whatever they want. But they need to understand that people may not like what they have to say. And based on that people may decide not to watch their films, or listen to their music, or buy their books. Just as they have a right to free speech, we have a right to not listen. No doubt. Just as we have the right (and responsibility) to listen/not hear anyone else, whether it's here on DZ.com or coming from the White House. Can you imagine the cheek of those fake bastards though? I mean, who the hell do Whoopi, Billy, and Robin think they are going on television and raising a few lousy million bucks for AIDS research? And Garth Brooks having the audacity to say that his great-grandchildren won't be able to spend all his money so he created that 30M$$ trust for kids? Asshole. I'll sure never listen to him again. He's a fake, particularly cuz his trust fund endowment PR never made it to television AFAIK. If he was real, he'd a called the media. Next on my list are those cats from the PD Factory Team. How dare they do benefits for the prevention of drugs, alcohol, and sex for teens? BTW "They..." are people. Just like you and me. some with a few more talents, a few more $$, and some hard-won opportunities. Ironic, having this discussion based around Krakauer, as if you listen to his interviews, he portends successful creatives owe it to the world to do what they can to change things for the better, due to their elevated social status. He should just STFU and continue to write books about social, humanistic, and political events. Is it OK for him to write about those events but not talk about other events? Or when he's on Maher talking about how messed up our president is, could it be that he's really just researching his next book? Now I'm all confused. Having an elevated social status doesn't make someone any more right or wrong, or fake. They're still just people. But they're people who collectively donate hundreds of millions of $$ to others every year, and for that, I do believe they're due a little respect, at least on the surface.

There is a small ramp to deflect it. It's not possible for a line to get caught in there at all. it's seamlessly mated to the helmet. I've run lines over it from a few angles. They also have a trough for the excess ladder to go into the chincup, too. They've thought all this out fairly well. If you put a still cam on there, of course there will be a small gap, due to the varying width of the camera body and the helmet, but your head would need to be turned 90 degrees for that to matter.

Mine came, but didn't include another ring for mounting as I thought was coming. There is no play in the ring, none whatsoever. And I can't see how there would be any. In the side mount, there are 3 drilled positions in the male part of the mount, making it easy to select the angle at which you want to shoot. Mounting a still to the top of the Converter is very easy, if they'd have sent another male plate. Helmet is lightweight, but feels very good. Lining isn't quite as good as what Bonehead or Skysystems offer IMO, but it's very nice, nonetheless. Given that Tonfly will drill/mount/install a ringsight for free right now, it's a nice deal. I got my Converter as a wingsuit helmet.

Sweet! Will you have your new Blade by then?

It also happened to me, same day. Difference is, Margaret (Eloy riggers shack) recommended I not jump it for 14 hours so I knew the unit was off. Unit had been working fine each of the previous days. I don't know if it happened to more than just two units, or if it was more widespread and others aren't members here. I'm a little surprised that the manufacturer hasn't contacted me after I sent them (and SSK) a letter outlining the experience.

If nothing else, you're helping their parents contribute to the American economy, and doing their part to ensure cash flow. Besides, you know you love chatting with them.

I submit that speaking out on subjects of interest to the artist allows the artist/entertainer to feel a sense of balance in their lives, no different than non-artists do. If life is nothing more than the pursuit of artistic endeavor and seeking the creative muse...it becomes boring very quickly. Been there, done that. IMO, artists have a responsibility to use their influence to change the world. If Penn agreed with your politics, you probably wouldn't give a damn about what he does.
-
Hijack not intended but... Why should artists "shut the fuck up" if they've got something to say? You do too. They have a bigger stage than you, that's all. I deplore most of what Bono does, for example. On the flip side, he DOES do a lot of good. Same with Penn. Or Vince Gill, or Garth Brooks, Gene Simmons, or... You or I might not think they're worth listening to, but at the least, they're trying to make a difference. Just like Krakauer. Who was on Bill Maher and awesome.
-
Krakauer's "Under the Banner of Heaven" is an outstanding read, too.

How about we ask you instead?

You can retrofit the new latch on the old helmet, I did it on one of mine. You'll have to replace the bone if you want a cutaway though, and that can start to get expensive. I think it's the skiboot one with the small "pin" that latched into the side that had a few problems coming undone. Someone else with more history can probably confirm or correct me.

Glad you figured out what it was! I was surprised that no one a the DZ recognized the pic, but it seems that's a fairly obscure pill for folks in our world. Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks, JT.

Took me a bit to get through it, definitely could have been cut with more movement. The last 10 minutes are very compelling, however. Was much easier to watch if I was doing other things at the same time, made the lagging parts move along a little better

It may be a while before Apple supports AVCHD natively, just as the platform doesn't manage HDV natively either. It can convert to the proprietary format on the fly when capturing tape, but some of the benefits of file-based format work are lost in the conversion requirements. Conversions will only get faster and faster, of course....

thanks to the electoral college, it's arguable that your vote is a waste of time, so it makes sense the primary is a waste of money. I don't buy that. You didn't get to vote on the budget last year either. You elected a congressman and he represented you in that vote, and many others. Given that there are several elections in US history where the winner of the popular vote lost due to the electoral vote, I can't agree. Understanding all the ins/outs of the system as it really works vs the BS we were taught in high school is something I dont have, so can't really debate the merits one way or another. That said...the thread says it all as well. the average American is clueless as to how the process really works. We were taught that our vote was counted as an individual vote. It may be "counted" as an individual vote, but it doesn't have the value of an individual vote. There have been rogue delegates that have not voted as they declared, as well. It seems the system is failed. It's been interesting watching the Diebold debacles as well, and it makes me wonder where we're heading with it all.

My macbook has XP on it, but now that I'm pretty happy with Vista, I'm probably going to put Vista on it. I have 4GB. I'm now running Vista very happily on a couple of machines, plus 30 training laptops. My Macbook is divided at 50% for the drives/OS systems, and most of my storage is on external drives so that they're easy to access from either system. Parallels won't work for most of what I do, as it's too slow for video use; otherwise I'd be running Parallels, too.

Thanks for the link!

Nope. iMovie/Apple has to convert the file first. Unlike a PC, Apple cannot use the native format that AVCHD camcorders produce.
-
The HC1 isn't AVCHD, which is why I asked the question. AVCHD isn't so easy on a Mac. BTW, if you need the decoder for AVCHD on a Mac, they can be found HERE
-
So...how much AVCHD work have you done on your Mac?
-
sheeiiittt, JT. You shoulda just asked. I had my Mac sitting 30' away from you. but I mostly run bootcamp/windows anyway. If you buy any computer on the PC side, I recommend wiping the drive and reinstalling only the OS, and then put the apps on that you want. For DZ purposes, I need: Sony Vegas Lightroom Photoshop Nero I rarely use Nero, but do have it for those weird moments I can't burn with Windows tools. On the mac side: FCP 6 Motion Panasonic AVC Decoder P2 reader Photoshop Lightroom Toast DVD Studio Pro I need more software on the Mac side because the tools don't come with all the features I need. I have both the built in burner and an external burner. When using the PC side, i can burn two independent discs at once, ie; stills burning while DVD is burning. Can't do that yet on the Apple side. [forgot to add, I also have a 500GB drive that I use for the year, and just bought my2008 season drive yesterday. Depending on whether I'm using my MacBook or desktop at the DZ, it's connected via Firewire or USB2]
