  1. If you live near Airtwardo, go see him. Jim Wallace runs a school for would-be demo folks down in Perris
  2. Strange you might ask about lenses...I've been asked to do a "real world" lens comparison test with the various lenses, and someone is actually *paying* for it, and I have the right to publish the results anywhere I'd like.... Watch for it early next week. Cameras will be Sony HC9 and CX7, using standard EIA res chart and Beale chart
  3. The evil twin of Lori. Or, it could be that I had a brain fart. Take your pick. choose option #2
  4. Ah, hell..it's all Photoshop, didn't you know that? Lisa, I've composed MUCH better images. In my mind. Someday, I'll be able to fly well enough to capture what my mind imagines. Until then, I'll just continue to rapid-fire shoot, and get one decent frame in a thousand shots. Seriously, those are some great shots!
  5. You'll predominantly notice quality diffs in low light. HC9 has a slightly better encoder, and a lot more customizeable/manual features, but for skydiving...they're vey similar. OIS can be an issue for some fliers, so you might want to stick with the HC5.

    Its here

So it serves double-duty. Seatbelt access during climb to altitude, and pocket access during flight. Seems efficient to me.
  7. None of the Royal lenses (or other single-element lens) will affect exposure in terms of modifying f-stops. Perhaps you're seeing some vignetting on the sides? With some camcorders, they are so wide that they'll vignette, particularly if you're using a step-up or step-down ring. Do you see a black ring around the image? HC 40 is fine for skydiving work, white balancing, etc. ATW in this cam isn't much different (if at all) from any other Sony DV camcorder in a palmcorder format. I don't have a means of measuring the relative focal length of the HC40 vs 90, but I'd imagine the 40 is wider. Could it be possible you've got an HC40 with exposure issues?
  8. I'm not aware that Tonfly is offering a CX7 box, as I'd asked about it at one time. This may have changed. top mount, yes.
  9. you can have a couple of my gold records if you want. I think the theory of good looking=better life goes right out the window when Ron Jeremy walks into the room with Jenna Jameson on his arm.
  10. The white helmet does sorta reflect the light that way, doesn't it? maybe I should Photoshop a head in there for ya.
  11. Looking forward to it, bringing a friend along as well. Even at 7:00 a.m., it's gotta be warmer than it's been here
  12. AFAIK you'll have to cut it. I've gotten the entire side (9 screws) and the front barrel cover off, and still couldn't get it. If it's like earlier cams, it's molded in place inside the back of the housing.

    Sony HC-9

Maybe it's like the first series of 900's, maybe it's the luck of the draw with the camera you get, if DSE doesn't have OIS issues... I'm fairly confident that it's the same no matter which cam you have. For tandems, no burble, no real issues there. But for anything that is really shaky...I'd expect it to be an issue. Sad thing is, OIS is the "new standard" of these cams, it's cheaper and doesn't require calibration (if what I'm told from the engineers is accurate) Bear in mind I'm also flying with a .5 lens, so the shake is lessened by the wider image. Are you using the HC9 in HD or SD mode? With or without wide angle?
  14. Basic" Vegas (Vegas Movie Studio) won't see any HD files, but Vegas Movie Studio Platinum will. you need the HD component. Yes, it will recognize them. Whether the extension is .m2ts or .mts, VMSP will read em' correctly.
  15. The drive on the camera/card on the camera will show up as aUSB drive on your PC-based system. Using Windows Explorer, simply copy/paste the files to whatever HDD location you'd like them to be stored. In other words, whether it's a card reader with the MSPD stick in it, or the camera with the MSPD stick in it, the computer sees it as a storage device.
  16. I'm sure I've got it in the original box, but the question is; what do you need it for? It doesn't edit, and doesn't install codecs?
  17. Perhaps at your local Walmart. not ours. Nor our local Home Depot, Lowes, or Staples. Been there, done that. All the magnets at our local stores seem to be ceramic or alnico, very cheap stuff. I've ordered a set of these.
  18. Bear in mind that the time is related to your download/upload speed.
  19. but that may be what the audio bit rate of the YouTube file actually is. It is AFAIK. If you're expecting to get stellar audio quality from a YouTube music video...it won't meet your expectations.
  20. flv.2 works just fine. http://flvto.com/

    Words fail me

Why has no one has corrected the misspelling of "cemetery?" Or is it Sematary? In our small community, the funeral home maintains an incinerator that also incinerates pets. Separate burner from the one used for humans, however. One accepts a casket-sized basket, the other one is much smaller.
  22. This is the Washington DC ABC production room, they're one of our/my clients. The room is manned by four on weekends, five on workdays. Soon to be three on both, due to recently installed automation and media base access. Lotsa monitors, but very easy to keep track of what is doing what, and what will be cued. It only looks intimidating.
  23. Happy birthday, best wishes, and all that goes with them.
