No they don't They just need civilized value exposure on a continuous basis to continue. Most of the racists in the American south are over it (or almost over it), another generation will do it. It's not like your country is without blemish, but they are over it (or almost over it). I wish you were correct, bu I don't believe you are. That's like saying that exposing a pig to Myles Kennedy will eventually teach it to sing. There will *always* be a large number of dolts who feel disenfranchised due to the color of their skin and a need to blame someone for the obvious result of inbreeding. they're not just in the deep south or Texas, either. Check out northern Idaho or southern Utah. The number may be on the decrease, but that's not saying much.

This is kind of creepy, do you think many people buy this sort of product?
-
The one order I've placed with them came very quickly...Haven't purchased anything from them in a year or so, however. Cookie is a top-notch person/company when it comes to customer satisfaction...I'd imagine you'll hear from them after the weekend.

I do like the Voodoo better than the FX...but not a whole lot better. Voodoo is actually easier to pack. My FX holds my demo canopy, so I'll keep that one around.

One hopes so, anyway...I don't disagree that these devices have the potential to save lives. They also serve as a false sense of security, and are an added layer of responsibility. I'm not arguing against any safety device, but rather questioning the making of choices predominantly based on these devices. MARDs can save lives. They also add a layer of complexity. AADs can save lives, but they've been proven to take them, too. I personally choose to jump with an AAD and without a MARD. YMMV. I chose the Voodoo because after a large number of wingsuit jumps on a wide variety of containers (including an offered sponsorship), I chose the Voodoo because of comfortable fit, the way the air flies across my back, the nearly non-existent corners (that feel great in a non-wingsuit jump too), customer service (I have yet to see any company offer the customer support that Rigging Innovations does outside of L&B) and most importantly...it makes my ass look good.
-
Beginning jumpers may not be aware that for every safety device you add to the mix, you also add a potential detriment. Your feet, helmet, fingers are entangled in your main lines. You cut away...what happens next if you have a MARD? IMO, beginning jumpers buying brand new gear aren't thinking very clearly anyway.
-
There are many skydivers who have no desire to use a MARD system. I'm one of them. Personally, not a fan of the Vector. Voodoo costs a little more, so does a Ferrari. It's comfortable, and for wingsuiting, IMO it's the best rig manufactured today, and I jumped a lot of em' before coming to that conclusion. Nearly 100 jumps on my new Voodoo, can't say enough good about it.

Are you referring to GOP sequencing? If so, you're right..I've been working with SX and MPEG for so long, I'm just used to that....and you're right, it can be a pain. then again, I can't understand why anyone is still editing analog.

HD. A-there is no more SD. You can buy used, and be well behind the curve, or buy new HD for the same price as what new SD was. Either tape (shudder) based or flash mem based such as MSPD or SDHC card based. If you're freeflying, you'll potentially run into problems with most of the HD systems, read the sticky above on the subject of OIS/EIS. No, you will not be spanked at the editing table. The HD camcorders can all output SD as well, so if you're using older analog gear, it's the same. If you're using an NLE, all newer softwares support all HD formats. I can't think of *any* reason to buy SD as a primary camera. The HC52/62 are very cheap (200.00) Sony SD camcorders, and they're OK, I've got one of each, maybe have 10 jumps on either of them. HC5, 7, 9, or CX7/CX12, IMO.

Congrats! Welcome to the flock. Wish I coulda gone with you....draw a cartoon strip, will ya? Takes a little while to get that arch thing out of your system, especially after you've been doing it as long as you have.

And if you hooted and hollered at me, I'd hear you. Apparently you missed the intended humor in the prior post? No, I do not condone wearing an iPod. I'm also not willing to accept the knee-jerk condemnation, either. I've qualified my position by saying that anyone with fewer than 500 jumps shouldn't consider a PLD on a wingsuit jump in my 'unintelligent' opinion. And most importantly, I have the right equipment. Not everyone does. A lot of folks don't even know what the right equipment is. Curious, I often see skydivers with foam earplugs, which have a tremendously greater impact on audible comprehension than does a proper earphone. But no one has ever condemned them? We also know that there are skydivers who have collided with others (including aircraft) while unclipping wings, turning off cameras, stowing sliders, removing booties, geeking cameras, hook turning, misreading the pattern, etc. I'd submit these people are far more dangerous than people listening to PLD's. Statistics are overwhelmingly on my side of that particular point. if using an iPod makes me "unintelligent".... Shiny object, gotta run...

Nope. I find it humorous as much as anything. Jumping with music isn't for everyone, just as there are those incapable of safely driving down the road while listening to talk radio... Some can't even walk and chew gum (but listening to music while walking may help cure that problem).

BINGO! You ACTUALLY READ THE POST! SWEET! I deleted a few posts that were snarky, and the couple of people who were deleted got really pissy about it. Read the original post. Carla is looking to buy a gift for her hubby. It looks like this thread has run it's course, and no point in continuing it.

I've been told by credible sources that this is the case. But the video says "we were first" and says "world record." Since there is nothing "official" in BASE, it's just as much an "officiai" as "unofficial" record. The word "official" means something different in various cultures, for what little it's worth. My bad for taking the thread OT. It's a very cool video, well produced, well thought out, and the jump is one I'm envious of. I'd not want to go to jail in Dubai. While the city is most beautiful, I've also seen where the jail is, and it's not pretty. No jump is worth even a couple nights in that district, IMO.

Well, if it's "nice to be nice, to the nice..." then it is equally fair to be intolerant of the intolerant, not tolerating...." Difference is, the guy that is 'nice to the nice' usually disguises his intolerance in all likelihood of masking his own latent desires. The intolerant of the intolerant usually just don't give a shit.

Blog post about my first.

Not according to the racists, misogynists, or homophobes that keep defending their right to express themselves to the intentional offense of their antagonists.
-
Hmm.....opening of the video says "world record." According to whom? Did Guinnes ratify it? Did BASE-A ratify it? Is it official? Whose record is it? Very cool jump, but without ratification...it's meaningless, right? Otherwise, nicely produced piece for a meaningless jump.

The sticky at the top of this forum explains why HDD and DVD-based camcorders cannot be used for skydiving.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Scientifically, some musical forms have been proven time and again to dramatically increase concentration. It's a recommended study tool in many programs. I've already posted more than a dozen links in another thread on this subject. Some folks chew gum...it creates a natural bio-rhythm. I just happen to like the bio-rhythm that 10 Man Push creates.

I have images of me flying smoke behind another wingsuiter in a large suit. The smoke curls over my head. One person was of the opinion that I'm stalling the suit. I did two more jumps with no one in front of me, and no matter how deep I stalled the suit, I could not get it to behave the same way. Could not get smoke to roll over me (I'd really like to, for a photo idea I have). In speaking with an aerospace engineer who was at the 71 way, and showing him the photos, he expressed an opinion that the way the airflow was being interrupted by the guy in front was what allowed the smoke to roll forward. I had plenty of my own air... As far as the 71 way...I was half way back, using Grey Mike (Row 3), Jeff N (Base), and Justin as my sight lines/base. It was easy to see (and feel) the ripples growing larger as the waves came backwards.

Pop quiz, hotshot...can music make you MORE or LESS attentive and concentrated? Google before answering, you'll likely be surprised. Can you believe that some people actually wear BLUE jumpsuits? I mean, C'MON!!! You can't see those !@#%!~! in the sky when they're wearing blue. Same with those idiots that wear white jumpsuits in cloudy areas. Let's make a rule! Oh, and those belly people that wear white gloves? PuhLEEZE! Can't see their hands! And full face helmets? Those HAVE to go, because they do affect peripheral vision. And skateboard shoes? How can you wear those? They're for.... SKATEBOARDING, not SKYDIVING. They don't have enough ankle support, and the black/green/grey ones? You can't see someone's feet when they wear them, because from above, they merely blend in. One might pop off in a skydive and hit you in the head and then you'll be unconscious and if you're dumb enough to jump with people wearing black/grey/green skateboard shoes, you're probably dumb enough to not have an AAD, and so you should probably be bowling or golfing instead. p.s. I don't have "my humps." Is it a worthwhile skydiving song? I tend to lean towards Alter Bridge cuz Miles has done a few skydives, and he writes a lot about flying and wings....

Dont want to correct the meistro himself here, but isnt a framegrab (the duration) depending more-so on the exposure/shutterspeed choosen than the frame-rate used? Depends on whether we're talking about video or stills. If it's video, framerate and shutterspeed aren't really related. If it's stills, then of course it's entirely related. Frame rate is how many times pictures are taken within a second. Think..."how many boxes go past the shutter in one second." Shutter speed is how fast the dumper that fills those boxes can open/close in the 1/30 of a second that the boxes go by. That make sense? In video, no matter what the shutterspeed is, the framerate is almost always going to be: 24fps, 25fps, 30fps, 50fps, or 60fps. Shutterspeeds *typically* vary from 1/30sec to 1/250sec within those framerates.

I was told this past weekend by an FAI judge that it can be a single frame grab of video, which is 1/30 of a second in USA/Canada/Japan, or 1/25 of a second in the rest of the world.
