Obama must respond to Writ of Certiorari by December 1
DSE replied to BIGUN's topic in Speakers Corner
Yup. Liberals are ignorant compared to conservatives. Does "paciant" or "pattient" equal "patient? -
as part of his appointment of Hillary to the Sec/State position. Bill Clinton has agreed to release the names of donors previously held secret, as part of Hillary's acceptance of the new slot. This avoids any spectre of conflict of interest. Clinton also agreed to submit all future speeches and foreign visits to the State Dept and/or White House counsel. more... Could it be this is just one result of Obama's now infamous 63 question application? I wonder if the Clintons found the request to be sinister and revealing of the "real agenda" of Obama, same as the firearm enthusiasts did?

GREAT shot! Steve! Better than any cartoon! IMO, for your size, there are only a few choices. Tonysuit Raptor Tonysuit Mach1 Phoenixfly Stealth Since you wanna be able to flock...look at these suits. You're a BIG boy. I love my Mach1....FWIW.

1-Be sure you're not at any USPA dropzone in the world, or you'll surely lose your license. 2-Be sure you're out of FAA jurisdiction, as the pilot will surely lose his license (at least for a period of time) Depending on the jurisisdication, he/she may lose it anyway. 3-Be sure you know the skills of your "catcher" inside n' out, because you're trusting that person with your life, no colloquial about it. 4-May I propose a chuteless BASE exit instead? It'll go easier on skydivers in the media. Besides, there are several "chuteless" skydives, but I've never heard of a chuteless BASE jump. Why not be the first?

I don't feel you can appropriately apply what happens on bigway practices or attempts to a "normal" situation. There are many times we've been given the 2 minute light, then given the Open Door light, and the pilot will begin a go-around just as jumpers think they're prepped to go. Our DZ is a training DZ for a local college pilot program. It's not entirely uncommon for some moron to be blazing across the sky at 4k perpendicular to jump run. We also border the RNav for SLC International and will occasionally have a small jet in the same airspace as our approach to jump run. The pilot might not have the mind to turn on or off various indicators while communicating with ATC or the ground. If the light isn't lit, we don't go. At a larger DZ like Perris or Elsinore, maybe surprises don't happen.

So on *every jump* a piece of paper is signed by someone with a JM rating for every person who doesn't have a JM rating?

Well...if we've seen it a hundred times, maybe a search might yield some results? The Canon Rebel series are very popular. For Tandems, the Canon G10 is pretty sweet. It's very small. Some folks use Nikon cameras, they're great too, although it's a tad more challenging to find some of the parts for the Nikons that you'll find for Canon cameras (armor, switches, etc). All will fit on the front of the Fuego Pro.

I looked as well, looking for a 400mm lens...and through live.com, saw nothing in their search that applied. It seems there are only specific products, as I saw the Paypal rebate mentioned.

I doubt it's that no one cares about you, although at some DZ's it's harder for some newbies to get others to jump with them. You haven't been around long enough to make friends, and some DZ's don't have a manifest that knows to work the newbies into jumps with coaches or licensed instructors. You need to be a little aggressive on your own, even though it might be hard. Generate a plan before you go up. IMO, it's a good idea to use your yellow card as a planner, and then write down some goals for the next 10 jumps, ie; "I'm gonna do a 720 rotation and stop smartly on heading." Or, "I'm gonna do barrel rolls and stay on heading the whole time," or "I'm gonna track from X to X." Maybe there is a budding photographer that can go with you to take video. Just stay well away from each other. IMO, jumping without a plan and jumping solo, are more or less wasted jumps. I did a lot of these, thinking jump quantity would bring me jump quality. As far as "what if..." Maybe someone has a better answer, but for me, the answer was to reach my left arm tight across my main lift web and grab the mudflap on the right side, and mentally prepare to do the same with my left hand after I tossed my hackey. Trying to reroute your chest strap in the middle of a skydive probably isn't a good idea. Once your canopy is deployed, you really don't need your chest strap, so you may or may not want to route/fasten it once you've deployed.

yes, I shot that video. And was really excited about magnets. If you search these forums, you'll find pages where I argued in favor of them from the perspective othat the magnets won't erase DV tape (someone said it would). That was before I had the opportunity to be around them. The whole "tuck-tab makes for hard openings".... I never did buy into that, and likely never will. Perhaps in the old days when there weren't the materials we have today....I also regularly see the Sigma riser covers come undone in the aircraft, too. And have seen wind blow em' open. It's not they're bad, but IMO, they're not everything they're hyped up to, either. FWIW, I'll be shooting the same kind of vids at PIA this year, too. We've got a small set we're taking, plus some longer interviews planned.

Just when I thought I'd heard em' all.... Good one, Steve. yeah...that's in my log book with "STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!" in the first line of the comments section. For laughs, here is the entire JumpTrack entry... (yeah, I know they're not risers, but at the time...that's how I wrote it)

keep em' coming, guys.... A few more, we'll have a vote for the winning set of suggestions.

No more, no less trouble than those that argue the term "boy" is acceptable in any/all situations. Kinda like the word "fuck." There are times it may be used, even appropriate. And times when a smart person knows to keep that particular epithet to themselves. -
I'm in the same boat; no instructors once off student status, excepting the times I've taken canopy course and a camera course from a photographer. On jump 244, I somehow made to altitude and out the door of the aircraft with my chest strap either misrouted, or completely undone. I was shooting a two way. I realized what was going on within a second or two. I waved off to the instructor with the coached student, tracked off a ways, grabbed my right mudflap with my left hand, pitched, and immediately grabbed my left mudflap/liftweb with my right hand. Scary, and taught me a "valuable lesson." Since that jump, I always carefully check my chest strap 2-3 times in addition to checking my hackey (2-3 times on every jump) as well as checking my own pin and three-ring. I hope I never become that complacent again. It was a stupid mistake. But it only took one time.

We all just love it when mods toss out PA's! ?? red·neck (rdnk) A person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude. I believe that description applies to a lot of invdividuals throughout the US. Don't you? -
Magnets attract metal filings, objects, grit. Metal filings, objects, and grit on fabric rubs the fabric raw and can age the fabric prematurely. Personally, I prefer how the tucktabs work, but can understand that some DZs are spotless, no metal around, no material in the packing carpet that will be picked up by the magnet.
-
why? Magnets aren't trouble-free either. I take one look at the Sigma's on our DZ and am grateful I didn't go that route. I also appreciate my TonySuit wingsuit for not having magnets, as I've seen what happens to those that do.

Wouldn't you suppose common sense applies here? A person of any color speaking with their son or a young man using the term "boy" isn't going to be perceived as denigrating by anyone of marginal or better intelligence. A redneck with a known propensity for hating anything that isn't blue-eyed Jesus with a firearm using the term will likely always be perceived as a racialist (don'tcha just love that word?) with an intent to degrade or diminish. -
Skydiving Movie Proposal (First Draft)
DSE replied to downplay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No. You hire a lawyer or agent (or both) and THEY handle things for you. Send a studio a script, you'll receive the package back, unopened ie; "return to sender." Studios don't have time, money, or desire to "train" you how this process works. On the web, you'll find hundreds of pages of information about how this process works. -

m' boi, you just don't get it. does ya? -
Tell that to USA Today, Outdoor, and Men's Fitness (All of whom have published wingsuiting photos in the past 7 months). Media is worth whatever you say it's worth if someone wants it. Until it's value is diluted through weak distribution. How many 71 way wingsuit formations over a mountain with clouds, sunsets, and lake have there been so far?

then it will *never* end. Words are weapons. Whoever made up the rhyme "Sticks n' stones will break my bones but words'll never hurt me" was an idiot and deserves to be sticked n' stoned to death. The Constitution and the bible are mere collections of words too. BTW, I agree it's a cultural thing. And culture, or lack of it, is directly related to intellect. -
It's kinda like that Ghost 2 that was gonna be available last May... Qualtiy takes time. I've spent 1-3 hours per night since the event, looking at photos in Lightroom, and with thousands of photos, it takes a lot of time. I'm not even 1/3 of the way thru my shots alone. One can only wonder what the organizers are having to go through. If' you've never produced a large show, I'm sure it probably seems to be an easy task. If it were easy, it would have already been done. You're looking for "THE SHOT." There is no value in screwing thousands (if not millions) of potential viewers out of seeing "THE SHOT" and promoting wingsuiting for the benefit of everyone, simply to satisfy relatively few (most of whom claimed such a feat couldn't be pulled off anyway) and did what they could to diminish the event before it began. I've posted 350 pix of the event, roughly 30 of the full formation. If those don't sate you...Get a Playboy or something.

If it's boxed all the way around, that would indicate you uploaded letterboxed content (which is how most of our content has gone up). and the letterboxing coupled with the pillarboxing, gives a black surround. I prefer that, to YouTube stretching the highly compressed Flash file. I've heard a rumor they're reprocessing all the old vids to fit from original source, but don't know that this is absolutely accurate. I wrote a brief tutorial, it's jumbled, and still in edit stages, but it might help someone here....

Not only the context, but the intellect of the person using the term "boy" needs to be taken into consideration.
