  1. Neither edit AVCHD natively. Even with plugins. Apple chooses to not do MPEG decodes when they can avoid it (due to royalty cost) and so everything gets converted
  2. The MC1 is a professional product. Sony (and BH) don't show BPSD products at CES, just like you won't see the CX105 at NAB, either... Completely different divisions. See you at PIA?
  3. Final Cut Pro/Express are both great programs, although I've got to admit, I'm really liking the new Premiere, and I don't have to re-think anything when going from old Premiere on PC side to new Premiere on Mac side.... But that said, neither of them are any good if speed is your need.
  4. the two primary motivators for me, as well. "The look" is priceless, and I'd like to help others become more safe, therefore preserving my ownself. Learning, experiencing, and paying it forward...'s what makes most things worthwhile...
  5. There isn't a "Pro 9" There is a Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 that isn't very old, and there is Vegas Pro 8 that was released back in May. Either/both require a key, like most software. Key would be on your owners manual/on a card in the box. If you downloaded, then you rec'd a key in the email when you bought it.
  6. I keep most of em. Occasionally the card is formatted on a busy day and I lose a jump, but it's rare.
  7. You coming to PIA? Seriously. We're releasing four new DVD products at PIA, and without saying much more...this subject is one of them. We'll lift the embargo on information shortly, but the questions in this forum were heavily used in determining what folks want/need to know. re: scripting... My staff writes em', but we sell em' to the public. The scripts don't look like scripts, they look like applications in most cases. For example, attached is a screenshot of DVD Prep, a freeware script that is a "press it and forget it" and it'll format, encode your timeline to MPEG 2 and AC3, into the same folder with the same name. Thousands of people use scripts, they just look like plugins. DVD Prep is a script, like Ultimate S or similar "scripts", but they're actually called "plugins." Very different than macros. HTH?
  8. Somewhere, I've got video of a guy that bought a bootie suit he was ever so proud of, just as he got off student status. After all, the cool pix in the magazines all have people wearing booties, right? Not only could he not fly booties on his belly well, but asked if I'd shoot his "first freefly jump." In spite of suggestions, he wore his bootie suit to sitfly. it's a fun vid.
  9. Writing scripts is a BIG deal, requires VB and Java knowledge. USING scripts is a HUGE deal, and is a one-button operation, usually. There are about 500 free scripts, and about half a dozen purchasable scripts, all of which are monster time and effort savers. Can you detail more about how you didn't/don't find scripting to be of use to you? I can't imagine a day with out it. Even Apple and Premiere are moving in this direction now, after Sony's offered it for 5 years.
  10. here is the glossary from my book The Full HD You're welcome to print it out if you'd like. Hope this helps
  11. Be sure you don't use highly compressed air on the camera. Many allow easy access to the focus screen/viewfinder, check your manual or search online for options related to your specific camera. This link *may* help.
  12. I shouldn't have asked. It's an old article, that I thought I'd write an addendum to, not interested in re-wriiting it. Maybe someone will find it useful.
  13. Coupla good points, but overall...I don't think anyone here cares about color sampling schemes, which is why it isn't mentioned much. Xvid isn't an acquisition format, never will be a standard delivery format, and you're right...pirates aren't at all my target market, unless you mean at the wrong end of whatever heavy object I happen to have at hand.
  14. With all the new questions cropping up about HD, I figured I'd bump this thread again for a bit. Does anyone think the article should be in the sticky? Does it help? Are there HD questions it doesn't address for you?
  15. Ditto. Marketing is going to play a big part in the continued growth and education within the sport. I couldn't vote for any of the Red Bull group in a managing capacity, but very much appreciate the energy they bring to the table.
  16. Burble Mike and a Boobie Burble. Classic. Maybe Scotty will post one of his stills. Justin was "paying attention" but so was she~
  17. HC1 has better glass. HC5 has better encoder. Brian, am I gonna see you at Eloy in a couple weeks? I'll bring my A1 with me, which is the professional version of the HC1.
  18. I'd still like to see some of your wingsuit footage. I'm not sure why you're so convinced the CX has problems for wingsuits if you've never flown one? Like I said...Scotty, Justin, me are wingsuiting fine with em (we're not the only ones), and Parachutist, me, and and a whopping number of others use them on tandems. Back to the OP, HC5 has been discontinued for over a year, so they're not plentiful. HC9 is still available from many dealers, it's current until stock goes away, but it is OIS. I did buy a CX12 this week, but that's because I needed it this week. If you don't need a camera right now, I'd wait til the new crop starts shipping, as they're smaller, new processing chips, and less costly.
  19. y'know what? I think he's grown up enough over the past year to not care one way or another.
  20. I'd say Germany jumped the gun on putting it on their website. April/May is the scheduled date, I'll put money that its late June.
  21. Dunno if Saskia can do it or not; it takes a very focused effort, but it can be done if you're only talking say...3-4 mins of footage. -plug in camcorder -capture app autolaunches -name the file -capture -PACK -edit -Set to burn -Tell a buddy to hand the DVD to the student when the disc tray pops open (or tell the student this) -Go to next student (assuming it's a busy day) HDV-originated footage will push you close to the edge of that 15 mins, but if you record HDV and output DV widescreen over the firewire port, then you'll be able to edit/render on even a slow machine within your 15 minute window, EASILY once you've go practice (we do nothing but media production in my "day" job, so I'd say we're practiced. We''ve also done up to 62 tandem/fun vids on a busy Saturday, too. I would NOT want to do more than a few using Firewire).
  22. FWIW, Scotty Burns, Justin Shorb, myself, and several others are exclusively using the CX7/12 for wingsuiting with zero flutter. Scotty often flies with two of them at the same time. Could you post your wingsuiting footage from the CX so we can see what it looks like? It may be that 50i has a more eggregious issue that 60i doesn't have. CS4 is slow and klunky with AVCHD too, BTW. They only installed full support about 45 days ago.
  23. Either AIC or Prores 4:2:2. I don't have the new iMovie installed, but I'm fairly certain it comes with Prorez. AIC is fine for non-critical work. HTH
  24. Jarrett, thank you! Those will work really well. Good size, and show exactly what I wanted to display/demonstrate.
