    Racer

I'm in neither category, I think. I feel they're ugly, they aren't comfortable, and even if it was free I would not consider owning one. But i have several jumps with a Racer on my back.
  2. you woon't be able to skydive at all with it, but it is a nice camera if it's staying on the ground.

If it's any consolation, I bought my custom Voodoo and had a friend immediately tell me that it has a high potential to malfunction.... If the Racer were a problematic container, they wouldn't still be on the market because no one would buy them. I don't worry one second about my Voodoo, and you likely don't need to worry about your Racer, either.
  4. Several more streamcasts have been uploaded.
  5. Jumping with out eye protection by accident is an "oops, that was dumb" moment, IMO. Intentionally flying without any eye protection is a tremendously increased risk to yourself, your eyes, and others in the air around you. The pointy side of raindrops, ice crystals in a cloud, or an eyelash slamming into your eyeball at 120mph isn't a pretty experience and could potentially do permanent damage.
  6. Even "fat f**ks" can slow down quite a bit...you did fine on your jump with me, until the end. My recommendation is to not worry about the numbers much...worry about relativity. One thing I noticed (and I think we talked about) is your knees being high, it's that 'natural arch' thing. Lift up your butt like you are helping the proctologist get a better angle. Arms more out than down. I'd also recommend spending a little time in the tunnel where you can have a constant speed and a coach to help you. Baggy suits help, but if you'll recall, I wore a Tshirt on a tandem I shot, and you're not much heavier (if any at all) than I am. Focus on this aspect with someone working specifically with you, you'll pick it up with a little help from someone else, not a ProTrack. You're a quick learner, I watched you pick up your forward/backward movement very fast on our jump. Screwing up and feeling like sh** is how we learn. Don't take it as screwing up as much as you've just learned a new way to not do something. Like I said in Sebastian, you've got a good head on your shoulders. Have someone help you put good information in it that you can use to improve your skill.
  7. nope... We weren't invited. We'll shoot the unveiling in the booth shortly.
  8. Now...that may be true, I've only ridden in a couple. But they ARE known for being very fast. The fastest skydiver in the world wears a Voodoo
  9. I don't have a tape measure. It's forward of center, yes. If you took a CX7 or CX12 and measured back from the flat/boxy portion of the body (prior to the rounded lens housing/casing) the thread holes on the CX100 are in the same exact location. So, you could say it's at the same place on the body, or you can say it's set back approx .5" from the end of the lens on a CX7/12. Measuring forward from the battery housing, the threads are in the exact same location as the CX7/12 threads. HTH [edit to add-Rover, it's 1080i. Not fast enough for 1080p and keeping quality.
  10. I do have both, two Voodoos, a Talon FX, and a Talon FS. Between the Talon FX and the Voodoos, I jumped EVERYTHING I could get my hands on. The FX has a more tapered shoulder than the older FS, but you already know that. I love the feel. The Voodoo is more tapered forward at the top of the rig, making it more sleek and certainly more wingsuit or freefly comfy. The BOC and flaps close differently; they're a little more close-in on the Voodoo than the FX. This makes it ride more comfortably on your butt in the aircraft, and makes your backside look less wide, IMO. I have dynamic corners on my Voodoo's for wingsuiting, but also am very happy with them for camera flying and freeflying (what little FF I do). The taper of the Voodoo makes it fit me like a glove. It just molds to my back. That's perhaps what I love best. Once it's on, you don't really notice it. Can't rave enough about it, and after having owned 8-9 containers in my skydiving time...I think I've found what I love most. Voodoo costs a little more, no doubt. But so does a Ferrari.
  11. The HypEye is the ONLY way this camera operates properly, for better or worse. Yes, I've run it through the HypEye paces. Camera has no on/off switch. Either you open the LCD panel and leave it open, or open and flip it so the panel is exposed. Otherwise, the camera turns off. The HypEye allows it to operate with the panel closed/protected. Cookie also put one on one of his helmets, too, tested it out. Additionally, the only way to get external audio into this camera is via the HypEye. I have a CamEye adapter, and it does power up/off the camera with the cover closed, but the focus/zoom are easily out of whack. I don't know why...Mark might have some input on the "why."
  12. You are correct. Unlimited shots, but VERY slow. I have one in my lap as I'm typing.
  13. The ones that open with PIA 2009 in the title would be from this year, the others are from 2007.
  14. The new cookie helmets are very beautiful. And very red. Video coming soon.
  15. Now you're just suckin' up to make up for all that other stuff you said the other night.
  16. I'll rephrase. You can convert any framerate to any framerate. The question is end quality. If you start with well-shot 60i, it downconverts nicely to 50i. If you start with well-shot 50i, it doesn't upconvert nicely to 60i, but it certainly does upconvert. If your source is HD, then the 60i downconvert to 25p will always significantly beat the 50i downconvert to 30p, and the 60i to 50i will always be better than the 50i to 60i. The extra frames data doesn't mathematically compensate for the additional resolution required in going from NTSC to PAL, but it visually helps. The additional resolution from PAL to NTSC helps with deinterlacing, but it doesn't help with the interpolated frames. In other words, it's a trade-off one way or the other no matter what. Trying to avoid being techy after stepping on my own tail in another thread. I would never use Premiere for framerate conversion. I'd use AE if I'm gonna remain in the Adobe paradigm. For the same reasons Premiere sucks, so do FCP and even Compressor. JESDeinterlacer is great for the cost. Hardware is still the best means of fast deinterlace, IMO. Without hardware, thank heaven for 1080 acquistion at any framerate downconverted to 720 at any framerate. Just another argument for HD acquisition...
  17. last question first: It's extremely easy to make PAL from NTSC, but not the other way around. Deinterlacing can be done in a variety of ways; the NLE you choose makes the biggest difference. AE does a great job of deinterlacing, premiere doesn't. Edius does a great job of deinterlacing, Pinnacle doesn't. Sony Vegas does a great job of deinterlacing as well. There are also some 'manual' deinterlacing tricks. As far as YouTube/Googlevid/Vimeo; They all like MP4 just fine, they'll take wmv as well. Since your source is DV, I'd upload as 640 x 480, square pixel (1.0 pixel aspect ratio) at a bitrate of not less than 3MBps. If it's HD, most sources are 1440 x 1080 or 1920 x 1080, and they upload best as 1280x720, 30p. Anyway...provide some info about your NLE and let's see if we can show you the best/fastest deinterlacing method without being too techy.
  18. You know that rig is gonna mess you up, don't you?
  19. Stages of your jumping addiction and relationships with non-jumpers: -She hates that you jump then -She hates the people you jump with then -She hates you Then She marries one of your jump-buddies and goes through AFF. Just kidding. At *every* dropzone, you'll find spouses that don't jump but that come to watch, support, take photos, read a book, help out with barbeques, gossip, or go shopping while you're jumping. I doubt there is a DZ on the planet that doesn't have non-jumping spouses on a regular basis.
  20. Tell them not to worry, it's just your heart monitor responding to the gorgeous brunette in 11B.
  21. The USPA Skydiver Information Manual (SIM) covers this in section 6.2
  22. Sometimes it's hell in the cabin and it's pressurized. Breathing emissions from seat 3D isn't ever pleasant, and the pressure just allows it to linger longer. I carry my altis on the plane with me. It's always fun putting the velcro on the seat in front of me so I can watch it count up. Occasionally I'll tell a story like "The plane must be struggling with weight, because look how low we're flying." Once I explained that it was a Bayesian watch (whatever the hell that means) and it only has one hand. People will nod and say "OK, that makes sense..." They're small. They're fun, and they allow me to get my logbook caught up when I' flying. In cabin for me. Always,.
  23. Better, hide drink while laptopping. Watch Glenn's puffies on your screen, beware Jason's batwing. Maybe y'all are just getting older.
