  1. Try explaining to a skydiver with balls as big as cantelopes why he shouldn't be wingloading at 1:6/7 at 200 jumps. Now add my horrific ASL skills and the difficulty in translated calls when he's excited. I'm *really* glad Shaun went up two sizes. The asshats at ____DZ telling him he could manage a 120 or even 135...weren't doing him any favors. He handles that Storm really well. BTW, he jumped the Triathalon for a while, IIRC.
  2. Note the October issue of Parachutist: Patrick Wiggins, USAF (ret) did his 500th jump to celebrate 40 years in the sport (he deliberately timed them to coincide) on a Para Commander. He jumps it very regularly at Skydive Utah, and sets it down in the same place, every time. I admire the hell out of him.
  3. No cell phone? Moab is one place I wouldn't want to land off without one. Interesting issue that, my cell phone rarely worked around Moab and it crossed my mind more than once to put my SPOT beacon in my suit. True, iCocks don't have great coverage the but most carriers besides at&t do have gOod coverage. I ended up using my BB as a modem at the campground cut the wireless is so bad. There is a cell tower just above/south of the airport I had great coverage there. I'm a wuss; I always carry a cell on jumps.
  4. New, in box, warrantied? Where did you find it? That's a GREAT price.
  5. No cell phone? Moab is one place I wouldn't want to land off without one.
  6. you might buy a Powershot and get Laszlo to modify it for USB trigger (or do it yourself) and that would give you an entry-level camera. There simply isn't anything new in the price rante you're looking to hit that is "out of the box" ready to go.
  7. the Storm has a lot of flare, a lot more than the Spectre or Triathalon, IMO. I nearly bought a Spectre early on and jumped a Specter 190 for a while. The Storm opens much more quickly but is still very smooth. It can be very sporty in the turns. I only have a few jumps on a Katana 150 and opted for the Storm 150 for myself. I have around 30 jumps on the Triathalon; it's more docile by comparison,IMO. I don't think you can go wrong with either canopy. I love my Storm but feel the Triathalon is a little less zippy. "Zippy" isn't a student canopy?
  8. Why not render them as avchd and reuse in your timelines as source media? Or as MPEG2 widescreen and reuse as source? .mxf works great too, which is what I use for most everything, but there are so many options, it's really what you prefer. avi would be _way_ down the list as you're going from temporal to spatial compression, and changing color spaces twice with each re-render.
  9. I would agree, and I've jumped both.
  10. Stock for whom? As data files or video files? The delivery mechanism for *most* stock footage is .mxf or uncompressed HDCAM. Neither of which are viewable from a DVD, but both of which can be stored on a data DVD. If by "stock" you mean for your own personal library, I'd store them as AVCHD files, which is how they originate.
  11. Let me be the first to congratulate everyone. Looking forward to seeing the photo.
  12. Flip side to this is that you can merely set your TV to underscan, or have your NLE display on the external monitor with underscan. There are just as many (if not more) issues editing preview on a computer screen (in SD particularly) than on an external monitor. If you're shooting, editing, delivering in HD, you essentially only have the choice of external computer screen. 709 vs 601 vs 625...frame rate issues, lots of reasons to know exactly what you're doing with what gear. If you're just editing tandem vids...it doesn't matter if the color is off or if you're overblacked. But if you're doing anything that is remotely used for "pro" work, intentionality, delivery mechanism, ATSC requirements... all define exactly what you're previewing upon.
  13. Have you spoken with Larry P, Suffolk's management, or anyone else there about your frustration? Or did you come here first to slam them in hopes of using public opinion to fix your problem? I'm impressed with the way Suffolk manages their dropzone, and can't imagine they won't work with you to find a solution. Your post suggests frustration rather than confusion?
  14. Quality over quantity. Three informative, briefed and debriefed jumps are better than 10 bad-habit forming jumps... You've got some outstanding instructors at your home DZ; ask this question of them. There are many things that could be causing your spin, no one here can see you fly. Get some local help from a coach or instructor that can exit, observe, and provide video for debriefing.
  15. Nice way to publicly express callous dismissal, mockery even, for people expressing their concerns about this issue (whether you agree with them or not). Nice to see the top-down source of the attitude. That, too, will be remembered. I dunno...Seems to me Steve responded with the same level of attitude that a lot of posts brought to the table. I'm surprised Spaceland posted at all. Contrary to popular belief, skydivers, DZO's, and whomever else isn't required to come here and explain their actions or policies (although it's probably as good a place as any).
  16. I'm quite certain that it isn't the camera. Premiere Elements 7 doesn't support AVCHD very well (although it has support). Premiere Elements 8 does AVCHD very well. Are you shooting HD or SD with the camera? Did your friend shoot HD or SD with the camera? Neither is related to your TRV, which shot DV, the CX in either mode shoots MPEG. (MPEG2 in SD and MPEG 4 in HD). If you're saving as AVI and then burning to disc, it's going thru another conversion back to MPEG, so that may well be the problem. Try it without converting to avi first.
  17. Sunset comes, not different from the one before Beyond the rain that fell walking through the door Silence now the only sound is heartbeats loud Pounding pain not felt long since, hidden no more Moving ‘cross the sky, soul bent to ride Hell rides with me, within, from inside Fly with me, your name upon the breeze soft winds arms open wide Tension deepened, lips parted begging you Please Please Find me here, speaking there spirit dark against the storm Burning wings I’m falling fast so desperate, love might last It never has before I’m back once Once more to a place I swore I’d never visit ever more Jaded, fated to fall and fail The ride is worth the pain, Insane? Doing the same thing twice Hopeful to renew Close my eyes and trust myself Trust in you and no one else Ground coming faster So little time An empty heart Partner in crime Agony in those left behind… I’ll never forget that long flight. It was a moment I’ll cherish forever. I wanted to share it with you.
  18. Once in Premiere Elements, don't render to Avi, render to MPEG 2 or MPEG 4 if you have a PS3 player. Some players may play AVI but its not a disc-play format. For SD DVD output; ALWAYS MPEG 2 For HD output :Aways AVCHD or in short/rare cases MPEG2. HTH
  19. Nice! Fresh, creative, and functional. Congrats on a very nice piece of working art.
  20. If nothing else can be said about it, it's definitely artistic and creative! It appears your googles are part of the helmet? Or is that just an illusion? Is the front actually molded, or is the paint job giving the illusion of depth?
  21. I don't know of any Canon you can get new for 300.00. Maybe someone else has input. X7's are around 500.00 used. x100 is too new for use, but you might find one.
  22. What's that go to do with anything??? It's usually camera batteries, not packed, blah blah blah. Show up in the morning with everything ready to go!! It was more meant as a joke and I don't wish to derail the thread. But...if you're waiting on camera flyers because of dead batteries, then they're obviously not too into what they're doing. FWIW, dead batts are as likely to happen to a TI on a hotload as to a vidiot. Which is why I carry a spare card in my helmet and a spare battery in my pocket.
