  1. my bad. 1.212 is the correct aspect ratio for NTSC wide. Sorry. I was in "stretched Sony mode" in my mind. Back to the original question; where are you seeing the pillar boxing? on the computer? Or on a TV? When you look at the file in Gspot, what is the actual rendered resolution?
  2. If you have Architect installed, then I'd suggest re-setting Vegas. That simply makes no sense. AC3 and PCM are both native formats. Have you installed anything after Vegas, such as the KLite pack or anything else? No..not a prayer of being interested in moving to the northeast. Westcoast is bestcoast and I prefer jumping where it's warm with low humidity.
  3. You select NTSC (or PAL) widescreen as your output format. It's very easy to do. Not sure what it is you're struggling with unless you're changing scaling in the timeline. 1920x1080 w/1.0PAR converts very neatly to 720 x 480 .909 PAR (anamorphic) You aren't seeing the black bars in DVD playback, are you? You shouldn't be.
  4. A camera helmet that encompasses the full head, mating as closely to the head is the most solid system possible. It cannot slop about on the face like a chin-cup camera helmet always will.
  5. Cranial Camera Mount. Just a fancy name for a camera helmet.
  6. Do you have DVD Architect installed? DVDA is where the license for the AC3 decoder lies. Audio from MPEG2 is PCM/uncompressed, but is AC3 when you use the HD side of the camcorder. You MUST have DVDA installed to decode AC3
  7. Looks like you're trying to put a square pixel format into a non-square pixel format. DV and mpeg 2 are .909 PAR while 1920 x 1080 is 1.0 pixel aspect ratio.
  8. Hypothetical: You've got a student who is an attractive young single woman. She is on her Cat D jump. A young guy across the aisle begins to chat her up, asking questions about her jumps, asking her why she chose to start skydiving, and telling her his story. Then he tries to teach her the secret handshakes before exit. How would you manage it? Is there anything to manage at all? Myself, I don't want anyone speaking to my student after 4000 feet, as I need to be pointing out altitude and landscape to them, eventually reviewing portions of the dive.
  9. Work on belly skills, work on being able to drive. Work on how to recall/recount a jump for a debrief. this article http://skyvideo.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/the-affi-two-step-how-i-became-an-affi/ may help you look at a few parts of the program. Having shadowed many AFF courses over the past year, I'd say that the biggest problem is the one mentioned previously; freeflyers with no belly skills. Seen several people that can fly on their butts, heads, and backs with great skill flame out of the course due to not knowing how to use their legs to drive, and for not knowing how to keep their bodies in close proximity to the student. No better advice can be given, IMO. Learn to fly your belly and know how to stay in very close proximity to someone else.
  10. I'd imagine due to the economy and other factors, the pool from which to draw wingsuiters shrank significantly. Therefore, the formation is smaller than the anticipated 100 way. They took everyone who registered, there are no alternates this year like there were last year.
  11. There are at least two blogs plus hourly updates from people on cell phones. Wingsuit World News is also carrying my blog, and there is the official blog. Click my sigline to see the blog, although it'll be skimpy today. I'm heading to the beach; it's a BEAUTIFUL day here.
  12. USPA maintains a list of those that hold a PRO rating.
  13. What is the source of the media? (where did it come from?) Right click the file in the timeline, and look at properties. What kind of audio is it?
  14. Very nice flying, sweet pix, Matt. Looks like a California record is already accomplished.
  15. I'm just glad to be here instead of being in the ICU.
  16. Elsinore formation is up. lots of wonderful wingsuiters here. Nice to finally meet John Kallend, and a few other new faces. The unofficial blog has been regularly updated, though it won't be quite as robust as last year with the official blog happening at the same time. Wish you were here!
  17. Beyond being on the PRO list, I have no idea how my email got into the mix. I'd be surprised if USPA offers it out without some sort of consideration.
  18. I've never jumped at SDD, but did receive it. I'm on the PRO list, FWIW.

    Thanks Mod's

Where do you think all the fun Facebook quotes come from?
  20. you said "form fitting" (in my best Beavis voice). Does this wingsuit make my ass look phat?
  21. Play nice. All large communities have gridlock until a new freeway is built.
  22. Traditionally, ASUS has been a good/solid brand name, but I couldn't comment on the quality of a specific system.
  23. There won't be a "cheap" resource for a while. Supply exceeds demand. You can also burn HD to a DVD5 for playback on any BD player less than 18 months old. They'll also playback on PS3.
