  1. I've never put Velcro under a load, so no knowledge of how it would react. I'm *sure* someone here has knowledge. I'd prefer a big handled cutaway such as the one bonehead and Tonfly have.
  2. A Fastex under strain is very difficult to release. Velcro, not so much so. A LOT of helmets don't have QR systems, but that doesn't make it a good idea. There is one guy here, search out SKWRL's posts and read his entanglement story and watch the vid. You'll immediately see why a cutaway is a GREAT idea.
  3. Nice to see more pix of that aircraft. She's in pieces now.
  4. A lot of the resistance is your low experience coupled with your high enthusiasm. A friend here in Elsinore has the weirdest, most dangerous-looking mount for his small camera on a Mamba. Scary to look at, but damned if it doesn't work. However, he's also got three "0's" in his high jump numbers and three decades of jumps...If you posted a picture of his rig, folks would jump down your throat (including me). Point is, experience plays a role too. Just be sure to eliminate as many risk points as you can, try to step back and see the situation from as many angles as you can. Overall, the biggest risk is still being air-aware but I think you can still improve. Nylon screws, maybe back it with something... Overall...this is simply the wrong type of helmet to be doing this with.
  5. Look at my vids on Youtube and FB...you'll find a couple where the "no probable" happens. I rarely stow mine since I don't swoop. Your efforts are laudable, but please remain open to possibilities vs 'improbabilities.'
  6. Bonehead's new Revolve is made specifically to take the Contour or Drift on the side.
  7. Stick to what you know, Robin. You should be embarrassed on this one, you don't know Jack. Intentional flatspins are part of the safety-knowledge-growth process. Kinda like jumping a wingsuit into water. One guy thought he knew the answer to that one, too. Untested theories are dangerous things, such as your theory of getting out of a flat spin in a wingsuit.
  8. You often condescend to people for not knowing what they're talking about.... How many spin experiences do you have in a modern wingsuit? You haven't got a friggin' clue.
  9. http://helmetcameracentral.com/2009/10/26/drift-innovation-x170-review/Download a sample of the unprocessed Drift, GoPro, and Contour from this site (as linked in the Photo forum).
  10. I have a book called "The Full HD" that you can find on Amazon, and a new DVD on DSLR cinematography that gets a bit into AVC vs AVCHD codecs... There are a LOT of resources on the web, too
  11. Yes, I'll be doing the PIA Interview vids as in the past. I'm not sure what my speaking schedule is, so not sure how/when we'll get the interviews up or filmed. Kolla/Lara from BSM will likely be doing some interviews from the show floor using our gear too. Yes, PIA is much like the Skydive Expo (cept' you know who is speaking when at the Expo ) and you can meet/see all the smaller vendors that couldn't make it to the Expo. A lot more vendors at PIA than at the Expo.
  12. There is no such thing as "uncompressed footage" from any of this class of camera. They're all _highly_ compressed in raw form. Drift and GoPro both have unprocessed downloads on their websites.
  13. not that it matters a LOT, but bitrate isn't everything. AVCHD has some efficiencies that AVC doesn't have, and so AVC *needs* to shoot a higher bitrate to make up for some of those deficiencies. It's really hard to make decisions based on mere numbers, but Bill's point is pretty valid. Color corrections, you'll do better in Vegas than AE. other stuff, AE could be better. lotsa variables.
  14. Yes, that's the list that was going to be updated "next day." My company and at least 3 others aren't on that list, and the speakers list isn't complete either. I'll be speaking on wingsuiting, digital media on the dropzone, and file-based workflows (important for DZ's using tapeless cameras).
  15. It blows that the seminar schedule isn't up yet, but yes...it's well worth it to attend. You'll not find this calibre of speakers and number of manufacturers at any other gathering. There are some good seminars happening on rigging, wingsuiting, digital media, dropzone issues... lotsa good stuff. They *really* need to have the speaker schedule up so folks can plan their visit and figure out hotels and flights.
  16. 1. Sony shoots AVCHD/16Mb/*.mts format. Canon shoots ?/?Mb/*.mov format.? .mts is an mpeg stream extension; in this case it indicates AVCHD. Canon shoots AVC, same thing as a GoPro, but with a better compression mechanism and higher bitrate. 2. Is this *.mov format whithout compression (unlike AVCHD)? Both cameras are shooting highly compressed footage, just at different compression ratios. Uncompressed HD is massively large. Depending on the acquisition device, could be as high as 660MB per frame. 3. I usually exported edited movie (shot only with cx 105) as AVCHD (same characteristics as original footage made with cx 105) in order not to lose quality of picture. To which format I should export movie made of combined *.mts and *.mov formats? 4. can somebody please explain difference between format and container? Export depends on the delivery mechanism. DVD, web, D5, HDCAM... I'd export as an mp4, 1920 x 1080, 15Mbps. You're going to have to tweak the gamma of one or the other in post, because the two cameras have wildly different color characteristics/color spaces. I would tweak the t2i vs the CX100 footage. Depending on the NLE you use, this can be done as a blanket process or on a clip by clip basis. A container is just a "paper bag" from the grocery store. It can contain many formats. "Format" means a compression scheme and resolution package. AVI and .MOV are merely containers that might hold MPEG, AVCHD, DV, etc.
  17. No, it's not. A container is like a paper bag. It can contain any number of codecs. MPEG 4 pt 10, AVCHD, and h.264 are all the same family, and all can be contained in a .mov container. Or not. The rest of it, I'm not gonna argue here. if you *really* wanna get technical, attend my sessions on compression algorithms at NAB...please be my guest.
  18. they both produce .mp4 files. .mov is just a container, not a codec. MPEG is a format/codec. A quicktime file may carry anything from Flash to uncompressed, 10 bit 4:4:4 content. in other words, "Processing a .mov smoothly" doesn't mean anything whatsoever. ALL of these non-standard MPEG cameras are more difficult to process for multiple reasons, the largest of which are that they do odd things with resolution/pixelshifting, and that their compression does not use industry standards, around which all software is written. A newer laptop and any quad desktop should have zero problem processing these files. Be sure antivirus is disabled and as few background processas are happening. Shoot at 1280x720 or 1920x1080 for best post-processing experiences. And understand that older computers simply don't have the horsepower to decode these files/codecs regardless of whether they're in a Quicktime or Windows Interleaved file container.
  19. sure do love my VASST logos on my suits. :-)

  21. the number of pixels is only relevant if you're feeding good information to the imager. Video cameras are designed a little differently than even point n' shoots, and the glass/plastic is a lesser grade simply because it can be, and it's cheaper. Sure, given a better bit of glass, more megapixels and/or greater resolution is better. The camera can never be better than its weakest part.
  22. Why would you care very much? It's a *video* camera. Stills suck from it even if it's 20MP
  23. Today I had a student show up with a Vigil. It had been switched on at the same DZ where your guy failed to reset his. I don't jump Vigils, don't know much about them, don't need to (outside of a student having one and knowing how to turn on/off). Thanks to this thread, I noticed hers was on, and explained to her why it was still armed, and then reset it. If she had needed it...it would have been a problem.
  24. Alas, not that will fit you. Just V1/2
