  1. How would an ND filter help here? ND filters virtually always help in high motion, outdoor shots. They allow for lower shutter speed, which helps in jello and shake. Contrast is also reduced. PolarPro makes a 2 stop and 4 stop ND for the Sony (and GoPro).
  2. it's a great little camera. Some of the footage you'll see on the end cap POP, came from me. Super stable, and with the crop factor, it simply rocks the video world. Blows the GP out of the water at 4K. I'll be doing another camera shootout this spring, once the CES announcements are shipping.
  3. isnt that a reference to something which should not be referred to ? Rules, common sense, and class don't apply when you're cool. Nah..the rules only apply when you're not friends with the cool guys. If you're not friends with the cool kids, banning and un-moderating apply. ...ad $$ matter a lot too, vs no matter how many views you might have driven to the site.
  4. http://youtu.be/2H_G400zE2s?t=24m14s A year old, but I hadn't seen it linked here.
  5. The cineprime is very nice, it's the first all-glass assembly in this particular market. I'm testing it now on the new Shape iSEEi gimbal, should have results published by Monday.
  6. your machine is fine for editing 1080 120p. It's the application you're working with. It does not scale video for playback. Premiere somewhat does, Sony Vegas does, and Canopus Eduis does. Short clips are actually harder to edit than long clips, because of the way memory is allocated per file. Try Vegas Movie Studio 13, you'll be pleased, I think. They have a 30 day trial.
  7. Congrats to Spike Harper (UK), winner of the Open Category Overall at the 2014 Performance Cup at Skydive Elsinore. Congrats to David Duffy(Ireland), winner of the Advanced Category Overall at the 2014 Performance Cup at Skydive Elsinore. 2nd place (Open) went to Tony Urugallo/UK 3rd Place (Open) went to Travis Mickle/USA 2nd place (advanced) went to David Duffy of Ireland 3rd place (advanced) went to Kristiaan Szeptiko of Australia The event went off without a hitch, perfect weather and no safety issues. Thanks to all that participated; see you next year at the announced locations!
  8. Almost but not quite. 4K can be UHD or true 4K. 4096 x 2160 @ 1:9 aspect ratio is indeed 4K 3840 x 2160 is UHD, which is 4X the resolution of "true HD." Because aspect ratios are variable, the horizontal resolution is what matters "most" in 4K, whereas in 1080 and 720, the aspect ratio is virtually always 16:9. Some love to quibble over the couple of hundred difference in pixels. Measurebators will always be into the numbers vs the actuality. I hope that helps answer the question?
  9. My book can be found at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Wingsuit-Formations-Douglas-Spotted-Eagle-ebook/dp/B00BNHQ9U4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412437461&sr=8-1&keywords=the+book+of+wingsuit
  10. not at this time. It's a very sweet size, nice for skydiving, perfect for RPV.
  11. I'll be doing a series of seminars on POV, aerial camera (RPV-oriented) and jumping at Skydive Toronto the following days. http://www.profusionexpo.com/Seminars/seminars.aspx Hope to see some of you there!
  12. this is merely a slight upgrade in image and a big upgrade in size to the AS100V. jello is the same on all of the POV cams across the board and anyone who says differently has something to sell. Jello cam isn't an issue of one brand over another, although some make it more and others make it less apparent through stabilization, compression, or in a few cases, software interpretation. "Jello cam" is an issue of CMOS and high framerates, coupled with horizontal movement. Slowing down the shutter makes a huge difference, and this is achieved through use of an ND filter (a polarizer can have a similar affect). Having a steady head also has a powerful impact on whether jello is evident or not. Shooting wide and cropping in post provides a means of visually minimizing the effect, too.
  13. How in the world could you have virus scanned a card formatted in camera? The computer would always report an error if you format in camera, take it out of the camera, and do a virus scan. Rule 1, always, forever and ever, is to format your card in whatever camera/OS you're working with. Rule 2, ALWAYS, ALWAYS expect that any card you send to anyone, anywhere, will be wiped clean. ALWAYS. Further, the Panasonic cards are made by a low-grade jobber. It's like putting crap gas in a Formula 1 car. It's great they replaced the the main board (which is pretty much par for any repair on any camera whether it needs it or not), but to expect any electronics company anywhere in any industry to clean/clear a card and send it back as such, is a risk that a single search on the web, or any rational person could have explained is just plain foolish. A likely reason the card had issues is that you likely formatted it in a Mac vs in-camera, yes? Again, most any video-savvy person can quickly explain why formatting of cards is crippled due to the Mac OS and file size limitations. This is also why you must use a SDXC 64GB card for PRO files and for most large string video in POV cameras, and it must be formatted XFAT.
  14. It's also the same processor that GoPro uses.
  15. MIT's course is online, for free. I don't have a link handy, but it's pretty good.
  16. Hopefully your tandem partner will have done this before and understands the extra weight, swing on exit, etc. You'll not want to "jump" as much as fall off as smoothly as you can. Expect to not be stable in the first 2-3 seconds the first couple of times you do this. After that, it'll seem easy. If the pilot isn't using the speed bar, you can likely stand on his feet to help situate you on the edge. Keep your head up. Watch for the snag points mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Smile.
  17. No. It has a "flip" mode for upside down mounting, but no side mode.
  18. Matt, I'd urge you to contact Angela or Brenda at RI. Their system stops the slider at the risers, allows for the slider to easily come over the riser end/toggles, and the toggles have never once released in my roughly 5K jumps on RI systems. I can show you empirical data about closing-pin systems having quite a few fires/cutaways, but it's not enough to say that it's "common."
  19. More or less on the same page; a pair of Gatorz I won in a comp...been wearing them under the FTP for years. Same glasses with the Tonfly3x. I also carry a spare set of Flexvision goggles in all my helmets in the event I forget sunglasses for some reason (they come in really handy on the aircraft, as someone occasionally forgets theirs).
  20. this. GoPro footage is harder to process, and requires more time in the editing system. Some DZ's have elected to avoid GP for this reason. As mentioned the CX cams aren't easy to find any longer. I use the 3.0. I'm not a fan of chincup helmets for "serious" work, but the 3.0 and the Shark are both pretty good platforms for not being fixed-chin.
  21. This is one very possible scenario; movement in the housing. My cams all have gaff tape on them to identify them, and also have the ID sticker on the bottom, so it's very tight in the case. I'm embarrassed I didn't stop to ask this question, it's a strong candidate for why I'm not seeing it while a few others are.
  22. It's outstanding for team work, but for coaching, we've found it to be a distraction unless the student knows the commands (and is trained in the commands) in advance. One word commands work well in the right circumstances, sentences do not. Ed Pawlowski, Avery Badenhop were the first to attempt this, I believe, about 7 years ago... we had a 20+ way group with the camera slot calling the formation changes.
