Grab one when you find it if you need one badly. Contour is out of business. One of the previous owners bought up the remaining stock and is selling, but it's more of a liquidation than a functioning company.

I'm quite familiar with Team Ill Vision. If they didn't participate in any of the Performance comps around the world, particularly those in the US...they're not eligible. It was a competition-based selection, not a popularity or team contest. If one doesn't show up for a competition, it's kinda hard to earn a slot.

I'm not understanding the reference?

http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/Voyages_of_a_Skydiver_727.html P-51 logs...named for the pen that signed them, when people faked their logbooks (nah...no one would ever do that. ) The gentleman whose logbooks I used in this old article has since left us, but I'd imagine his wife and family cherish these incredibly well-written logs. There is something to be said for paper logbooks, particularly if they're as well done as Eike's were.

You can shorten the brake lines if you feel the need; I'd recommend taking a two-finger wrap for a few jumps. The Pulse CAN be stalled (like most any canopy) and it's true the flare power is down all the way to the waist of a stock canopy. Dial it in with wraps before shortening, and see what works best for you.

some dropzones absolutely require paper, whether it's a signed digital logbook or not (I like Paralog's system, as it syncs up with their computer software). There DZ's that will make you fill out a single log sheet so that you can show them a written logbook.

About Vigil: I'll second that. However, most people would welcome another AAD choice, and particularly if it came at a lower price and offered greater intelligence. Or, at the same price, but didn't cost a lot to maintain, and could be field-maintained.

Anything with CUDA or GPU acceleration is good. I run Vegas on an old MacBook Pro with a slow 1.83 dual proc, and am very happy. SSD is great for boot/operation, but you'll need an external or separate drive for media itself. 8-16 GB of RAM is plenty. Vegas uses ram for only two purposes; background renders and still photo buffers (for those uber-large 20MP stills). it also uses RAM when multiple copies of Vegas are open (if you're rendering 3-4 tandem videos at once, you'll be pleased with having 8-16GB of RAM). That's truly about it for Vegas.

USPA National Directors Lying about jump numbers....
DSE replied to swooper71's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
But equally, where does your responsibility lie? If you know someone doing this is running for office, shouldn't you be making THEIR name known and posting your evidence rather than being cryptic yourself? Doing it this way, you're just part of the problem. I agree. Those that know, are obligated to report it so that general members of the USPA who vote, are at least informed prior to voting. Since there is no election close, they're not currently "running" (although they've indicated they're considering a run in the next election). When they announce that they're running, then the information has relevance. Until, then, it's just something that makes one go "hmmmmm..." -
USPA National Directors Lying about jump numbers....
DSE replied to swooper71's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What's more pathetic is that the name used to register this burner account has the same name as the person who sent out an "anonymous" email about a National Director last year. They didn't cover their tracks too well; I guess they don't know about IP tracing, or Spokeo, Knowem, etc. The sad part of the pathos is that one or more of the persons running the smear campaign wants to be on the BOD next fall. -
Sony Professional USA has decided to not just compete, but to SHATTER the film industry with this new camera. It'll be years before anyone catches up. The camera features a 35mm three layer, unbayered sensor and is said to be capable of outputting an uncompressed RAW signal, or a 4:2:2 uncompressed signal. The ISO has a variable noise free native mode with a range of 16 stops and will work without any ND filters, a first for cinema cameras. It will also feature the first ever non-buffered recording media with a capacity of up to 1.2 TB. The body feature a PL-S mount using internal connections for electronic focus, Iris and zoom. The camera will ship in early May at a retail price range between the cost of the F5 and F55. The camera has been code-named "Uber." This camera is expected to dominate the market, leaving RED, ARRI, BlackMagic, and other high-resolution production cameras in the dust.

I use the Wichard 1", available at most boating stores.

The DJI camera is the same imager as the GoPro, it's a sony Exmor system. IMO, the DJI is better, but haven't flown both on the same rotor to have a side by side. A friend did this just yesterday with Eric Chen of DJI, but I've not seen the footage. His report was "I prefer the DJI." I likely will too, simply for the lack of saturation processing.

Performance & Acrobatic Comp formats official at FAI/IPC and USPA
DSE replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Small correction here CSPA announced these events would part of up coming nationals in Edmonton using IPC rules a while ago, nice to see the USPA wasn't far behind ;) My mistake, based on conversations with Barb. I thought Performance had been adopted, but not Acro. See you in Edmonton. -
Performance & Acrobatic Comp formats official at FAI/IPC and USPA
DSE replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
This is a very exciting time of change for wingsuiting! So very inspiring and re-igniting to have IPC and now USPA (CSPA not far behind) accepting these very tried and true disciplines and competitions as sanctioned events. We now stand with all the other disciplines as "real" in the eyes of the skydiving community. FlyLikeBrick, Klaus Rheinwald, Michael Cooper from Flysight, PhoenixFly, TonySuits...so many people involved in seeing this all mature. Zach Schroedel has been instrumental in helping usher the politics, all the performers at the various acro and performance events around the globe have "legitimized" what we've been doing on our own. Every one who has ever participated in a Performance Event or an Acro event; pat yourselves on the back, as you all have made this happen for those that are here now, and for those that will come forward in the future. Now....go fly your asses off, fly long, fly far, fly fast, and hold hands in the sky. -
It sucks to lose a prop on an octacopter, too. The issue isn't just losing the prop, it's also dirt/debris in the motor. I'm glad they found/fixed the problem fast.
-
Have you replaced the prop locks on your Inspire yet? Or did you receive one of the recent models that included them?

Read this again. Key word "Student." Teaching a newbie to deploy in flight is begging for trouble.

My 2cents; bringing your knees to your chest makes you smaller, and therefore more likely to: A-increase risk of body turning to one side or other B-increase speed of your body, enabling forces to cause you to increase rate of rotating body C-if you have a weak pitch, you may cause the turn out of "normal" muscle memory. Dropping and closing the knees is good, but I'd skip the "bringing them to your chest" part. With a bigger suit, you'll likely find this won't work well anyway. Good on you for thinking about it and asking about it. So long as your body is head-up and balanced at deployment time, most everything else works.

USPA 50 year anniversary=FREE Membership
DSE replied to ElviDan63's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The USPA does a lot of great things, and having recently had the opportunity to work with a coupla foreign organizations, I'll say that the USPA does a pretty darn good job at a lot of things we don't realize. That said, it's been five years since the offer was made to (at no charge) turn the IRM into a secure, downloadable document that would allow for limited printing, but easy use on a tablet, computer, or phone. Imagine the cost savings of a digital IRM? USPA would enjoy the same revenue, but no printing, shipping, storage costs. The website is pretty poor. Overall, USPA appears to be technically challenged. If a small org like CSPA can do a lot for their members with technology (such as immediate membership updates, online renewals, SFOC, etc.) USPA could be/should be streaming media at the Board sessions as well, it costs nothing except the few minutes to set up the stream. I'm not sure why USPA seems to fear tech so much. Jan Meyer has long been a proponent of streaming sessions, for example. I don't know if the resistance to tech overall is the BOD or the administrative team, but it would be nice if they were doing more with tech. Getting the SIM into an interactive download was pretty cool, I believe that was Jim Crouch that made that happen? Having said that, I wish everyone had the opportunity to interact with other parachute orgs...for whatever faults USPA has, they're quite minimal compared to some of the others, IMO. -
This^^ This isn't something a new wingsuiter should be doing. Learn the basics first. Since this thread is likely spawned from Marius' fatality, it's equally worth discussing being trained, and able to perfectly demonstrate the deployment position prior to getting on the aircraft for that first jump. Marius didn't have a single good deployment in the wingsuit based on his own comments, questions, and several videos. Of the videos shared with me, he never once was head-up, never once closed his tail, and struggled even in non-wingsuit skydives (which is likely what led to the several chops he'd had). While the "Try twice then silver" is a valid and useful discussion even in wingsuiting, training that leads to proper body position is just as valid and useful. Like Scott says, one should be able to fly with arms in a variety of configurations, including both shut down, before moving to a bigger suit. https://vimeo.com/123336940

USPA National Directors Lying about jump numbers....

I know of one ND that spent quite a bit of time in Los Angeles in the winter season, jumping fairly regularly at Perris and Elsinore. He maybe still does. -
Canadien born born Ted Cruz declares his intention to be President
DSE replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Not according to the media, maybe not. “Birth Abroad to Two U.S. Citizen Parents in Wedlock A child born abroad to two U.S. citizen parents acquires U.S. citizenship at birth under section 301(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provided that one of the parents had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions prior to the child’s birth. The child is considered to be born in wedlock if the child is the genetic issue of the married couple.” "It would thus appear that for Senator Cruz to qualify as a natural-born citizen under this paragraph, (a) both of his parents would need to be U.S. citizens at the time of birth; and (b) one of the parents had a residence in the US at the time of birth." His father was not a citizen at the time of Cruz' birth. While is mother was clearly a US citizen at the time, she did not hold a residence in the USA. -
BASELINE works fairly well, but the Flysight is truly the way to go. If you have any intention of competing in an FAI-sanctioned Performance event, you'll need/want a Flysight anyhow. For competition, a Flysight and Paralog are essential, IMO.
