    You will have to take a 20 question test. no oral or pratical req. the FAA will sign form 8610 giving you auth to take test at testing center. go to FAA web site for testing centers in your area and also check out the questions on the test. it's all there. good luck.

    ask your dzo if he has first jump students open at 10 thousand because it is safer. have you ever dealt with line twists, spininng mal, off heading openings. these are some of the problems you might face. I'm not saying to sell the veng. I kept my spectre 150 because there are times i feel i need to step back. like a long winter layoff and i need to get current. downsize slowly and get proper instruction from the numerous canopy schools. you will find that landing a smaller canopy or ellipical will take a different technique. have fun,be safe

    My two cents worth. I just went to a Stiletto 150 at around 400 jumps. I progressed from a pd210 for 100. spectre 170 for 200. spectre 150 for 100. Going to a veng 150 at 52 is imho nuts. with 50 you are just learning to pack. a bad pack on a spectre will give you some trouble, but a bad pack on a veng will take you for a ride you might not have the experience to deal with. The spectre is forgving in the pattern but if you fly a veng like a spectre you will find yourself in an area you don't want to be. slow down and be safe.

    Thanks Billy. I lost my medical in 1998 not due directly with the right eye blindness, but to the medication that I was put on at the time of blindness. It caused other problems and after being on prednisone for 24 years, other areas began to give me problems. I retired off the B-747, so if I got my medical back, flying a C-172 just would'nt have the fun and challenge that jumping has to offer. Also, I don't have the FAA telling me they are here to help, and only getting in the way with tons of paperwork.

    I have been blind in my right eye since Vietnam. I lost my flight physical in 1972 because of that. It took a year dealing with the FAA to get back into flying. I took up jumping after losing my physical again. The FAA doesn't care if you can't see. Depth perception is an issue that can be dealt with. You learn how to adjust and correct problems. Students have to deal with this also. Your brother should do fine. Just go a little slower in the downsizing process.

    I have looked in previous threads and haven't found much on this? With an ellipitical, is it advisable on openings to look up and fly the rear risers as the canopy leaves the bag so as to cut down on the degree of off heading openings?
