As usual, more self-IT this morning, Sunday, Mother's Day. I get up so early that there's never a question of interference. Anyway, I made up for not working out yesterday, and this morning I did 75 pushups, 150 crunches, 100 squats, and 100 flutterkicks. I'll do more later in between my responsibilities, gotta look ripped for the first graders I'm speaking with on Monday afternoon. On a side note, went to a dinner gathering at the house of one of my former political science professors last night. Those present who knew me barely recognized me. Always a good feeling. And of course I spent most of the night sharing my experiences and trying to convince a younger student to complete college before going to Army OCS, and talking to his girlfriend about the military lifestyle. Anything to help out a shipmate, right? "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Easy to do donuts in a FWD car by using the handbrake. Around another car is another story. I do not know that I could even do it. Not sure I'd agree with that. Donuts in a FWD are nearly impossible. The idea of a donut is getting the rear tires to let go, and slide the car around the lot in a circle smoking the rears. Can't really do that in a FWD and keep it going. I can get my car sideways if I want to, been practicing in autocrossing, but I can't sustain it, FWD is not designed to sustain a loss of rear traction. Hence the reason you never see a drift car with a FWD setup. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Been staying fit like the badass Coastie I am. Got out of Basic on the 25th of April, been ITing myself almost every morning and evening. This morning I did 75 pushups, 100 crunches, 75 squats, and 75 flutterkicks. I might do a similar number tonight, and I think I'm going to run tomorrow afternoon. Got in damn good shape in Basic, can't let it go to waste right before reporting to my first unit. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Fitness Push for July 4th -Post Your Workouts for April 18-24

Well people, I'm back from USCG Recruit Training, just said good-bye to TRACEN Cape May this afternoon. As for the fitness elements, I had my ass handed to me. And you all know as I do that I was in very good shape when I went in. I guess the equalizer was the fact that the company basically got constant "incentive training" for the first 3-4 weeks, then started coming together enough to avoid such stupidity. Either way, everything hurts, and I'm using this weekend to decompress, but I'm happy as hell about how our company came together, and we accomplished more than any company in over a year on the regiment. Basic physical exercises for incentive training were the crunch, flutterkick, pushups, and squats. Then we had a swim element, a bunch of exercise bike sessions, and some weight lifting. And can't forget the running, we ran alot. Anyway, we were all in really good shape by the time we finished today, and I think I might have gained a little bit fo muscle all around. Worthwhile experience, very important to learn so much about myself and my shipmates, and a part of me even wants to go back to Cape May to become a Company Commander myself. Been working out minimally the last couple weeks, with a couple hundred situps per day, 150 pushups Thursday and today, a bunch of pullups today, a run yesterday, all sorts of fun shit. On another note, I've had three weeks too many to think about life in the Coast Guard, and I realized I've got too much risk in my life to become a Rescue Swimmer. I'm not invincible, and I like my life. I'm going to go for BM instead, and don't make any wisecracks (no pun intended of course). It means Boatswain's Mate. I'm going to try to become a Coxswain of a 47 ft SAR boat. Will still provide good stories at the dinner table, and I won't be defying death to put food on the table. Shipping out Tuesday, will check in by the 1st of May. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -
Samoas for me. Maybe it's the coconut, but I've eaten a whole box inside 5 minutes. Nobody looking, everyone occupied with other things, stole the box off the kitchen counter, and in 5 minutes there wasn't a single bit of evidence that the box was ever in the house in the first place. Talk about psy-ops, friggin' mind games. Nobody could figure it out. Then they realized I was the Samoa freak, and it was fairly obvious. Oh well, I almost had them fooled. You can pick who you fall in love with, you just can't guarantee you'll get the same in return. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

I didn't watch it, but a good friend was watching it and dishing out commentary the whole time. From all he told me, it was a couple hours out of his life he wished he could get back. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

That would be a little too comforting. I might not pull up anyway, I'd be seduced by the voice. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

John Cleese would be fairly amusing. As far as comforting voices, I could see maybe George Clooney or Matt Damon. As for funny and/or freaky voices, how about Lewis Black or George Carlin? Fitness Fools...POST February 15th-February 22!

Did 40 pullups yesterday in sets of 10, then 150 pushups in sets of 50. Today I did a 30 minute run, managed 3.4 miles. About to do a bunch of situps before watching Fight Quest. Still got a lot of rage to get rid of. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -
Very beautiful. And unless she's anything like my car, she won't talk back. Can't get that with a chick, even in the best of circumstances. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Didn't work out Tuesday or Wednesday, I was too depressed over losing my ship date to the Coast Guard. Couldn't get over it quick enough to work out again until yesterday. Did 40 pullups in sets of 10, then 150 pushups in sets of 50. Today I did a 3.4 mile run, 30 minutes on the watch timer. I'll definitely be doing some situps later, because I still have lots of rage to get rid of. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Congrats! Welcome to the end of your life! Point of no return is having kids, remember that. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

Yeah, it's only 8 weeks. It's clearly a softer military than it once was, and there are far more idiots now than there ever were. Which means if you're suspicious that only the morons graduate boot and enter the fleet, you're probably right. I might be a good example too. It takes a complete lunatic and moron to want to go AST. Volunteering is for kiss asses. I'm no kiss ass. Heard the food is pretty damn good at Cape May, but I guess I'll find out for sure in a few weeks. I'll get back in touch once I'm out of Cape May, because I'm doing hometown recruiting for almost a month after I get out with R/O Bronx. This is a long list. Lots of people alone. I guess alone is becoming the more popular way to enjoy V-Day. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche -

Well, back a little too soon, so I'll give you all an update. I got ****ed by MEPS. And more specifically, the medical department at MEPS. Went to get my fingerprints done, but the guy at the fingerprinting station couldn't bring up my medical file on the computer system. He couldn't figure it out, so he sent me to medical to have them figure it out to make it quicker and get me shipped out. They couldn't figure it out until they looked at my paperwork... which they've had more than usual... and found out that my previous HIV test results had been cancelled, and nobody said anything about it. A memo was supposed to go out, but it didn't, and nobody double-checked it until today. So I pushed for an HIV test today, and fingerprinting, but the results from the bloodwork won't be back till at least Friday. Now for the bottom line. If the tests come back by Friday, my recruiter's going to smash some heads to get me shipped out a week from today. If he can't, or if the tests don't come back, I have to wait now until March 4th. Yeah, best way to go into any martial art, or any sport where you risk serious bodily injury. Go in realizing that you're a speck on the map, a crumb on the ground, and earn your way to badass status by lots of practice, focus, and determination. Hey, I'd like that! Always good running into fellow Coasties. I just gave one 3 days extra leave through EAR for giving me information which led to my enlistment. "If at first you don't succeed... well, so much for skydiving." - aviation cliche

So you're a Fight Quest watcher as well, huh? Good show. I've been watching since it started too, and I think once I get out of Coast Guard Basic in April, I'm going to find classes and start it as well. I did Karate back when I was in first grade, but that's a long time ago. Wanted to get back into martial arts ever since.
