  1. met Perry? Mason (I think) in NYC one night, that guy was funny. Met chris farleys brother like 2 times at different places, howard stern grew up in the town next to me, he was babysat by my dad's best friend when he was young, Dee Snider grew up and went to high school in my town, Busta Rhymes' kid lives somewhere around my house, Flavor Flav grew up in the town next to mine and his family still lives there, briefly met the goo goo dolls, cisco, Eve. That's all I can think of for now. Don't know anyone personally who is very famous, but bored and felt like answering this anyway :-D "I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh
  2. thanks guys - read the articles, thank you - informative - Will definately look out for good gear over the next few months :-) "I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh
  3. I did a search for this on the forums and didn't find nearly as much as I thought I would (I didn't look for that long though..) just wondering: I need to buy some gear soon (I have none, am on my way to my A) curious as to what you guys have to say about what kind of helmet/gloves/rig to get, whether I should buy a whole rig or bits and pieces, etc. The helmet thing - for beginners who essentially need to practice RW, at least for a while before they try anything else, what's a good helmet? so then obviously the jumpsuit would be RW??? Also not as major for the summer but will become important towards september: gloves - batting gloves?? or special skydiving gloves?? I want to be able to feel the toggles...just bored so if anyone has anything to say on this topic please do :-) -Katie "I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh

  5. recently graduated AFF - I'm still very nervous every time I jump and I always go over and over my EPs and the entire jump beforehand. I think it's good because we're so inexperienced, that if we don't get scared into remembering to practice something, that's the jump something will go wrong and we'll forget what to do - where as with experience the fear will slowly diminish as EPs become more routine and automatic. just a thought.. have fun completing AFF!! 8. If you haven't given them any money or a credit card, talk to skymama and she'll give you a dropzone to go to...most importantly, HAVE FUN!!! 9. It's on USA right now - never saw it before - their dz is full of a bunch of loonies, killing each other and such. but some parts are really funny like when she dropped wesley snipes out of the plane with just a tandem harness on and then jumped out like ten minutes after him and somehow was able to attach him to her. that was quite funny. anyone else care to comment on stupid skydiving movies that have nothing to do with skydiving???? 10. Stir Crazy, with Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder - love those guys they're soooooo funny "I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh
  11. wow I always want to get up and go - never have, I'm 20 years old with no strings attached (except for family, friends, and a boyfriend) - I only work 2 days a week bartending and just quit school. I also just got another job but really don't think telemarketing is my thing. Would love to just drive around the country - never drove west of ohio - but don't have enough money for gas My ideal would be to bartend down south somewhere on the coast 5 nights a week instead of two, with nice warm weather and a dropzone nearby that I could call home. Then after saving up enough money, take flying lessons and become a commercial pilot. That'd be nice.... 13. There are six sleeping spots I frequent - 3 of which need sheets - of those I don't know what the thread count is because none of them are mine! ;-) "I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh
  14. What's this talk of jumping at the Ranch??? I love SDLI - wouldn't leave it for NOTHIN'. :-P For now at least....thank you Dave for your offer of teaching me how to pack - seems I have help closer but I might take you up on the offer anyway :-) Need to get away from Long Island at some point...Hi Justin - how are you doing - you jumping at all this week? - and yes my weight fluctuates daily - and yes it is very weird, but I have grown accustomed to it so I barely notice it anymore lol - Thank you everyone for responding - you people are awesome (or just bored) and I really appreciate it - I will definately talk to Richie (my AFFI) about what to start looking for :-) AND I will learn how to pack. RIGHT NOW - actually I should - the weather's horrible for anything else - can't even play handball... 15. I'll have you all know that I printed the thread - thank you so much for advice - and yes...I ALWAYS will talk to instructors first before I use any info I've obtained. To answer one of the questions - I have not bought ANY gear to date - I probably should start with alti, goggles, helmet, stuff like that. Don't have a jumpsuit either. I'll work on it
  16. Hi Steve OK good point with the packing - haven't done it yet so I'm kinda nervous about jumping something I packed - And yes money is an issue. Thanks everyone
  17. Hello. I am a student skydiver (just graduated AFF) - I've been jumping a 200 (I weigh between 135-150, depending on the day) and would like to do some research as far as buying my first used rig - I figure I have some time before I get my A - Should I continue renting gear at the dz or should I buy used after I get licensed?? I would speak with my instructors as far as what exactly to get, but the reason for posting is that jumps cost $65 each now, and if I buy a used rig (with all safety features of course) they could cost $25 each plus a pack job. 18. I'm sorry - I'm new to the sport and somewhat new to dz.com - where are the incident reports for this weekend?? Thank you. "I believe the risks I take are justified by the sheer love of the life I lead" - Charles Lindbergh

  23. hello, new to the sport - have 8 tandems and 2 aff jumps (failed #2 but that's besides the point) - I am a college student and have to write a paper on the origin and developement of a sport (of course I picked "sport parachuting") --- It has to be at least 6 pages and am looking for sources - I've found parachuting: the skydivers handbook and a few articles in the uspa magazine, but wondering if there's more that anyone knows of? preferably books with general history, but websites are appreciated too... thank you! 24. haha a wind tunnel would be nice, but nothing near ny....I turned right ok (not great) but left couldn't turn at all - someone (not my instructor) said that I may have had my right leg up a bit. My instructor said that I just need to get my arms boxed like the wings of a plane and turn like a plane....I shall try Thanks for the welcome..what's your story?
