uhm, If I remember correctly, my tandem at CrossKeys 3 years ago was simply a jump thrugh clouds. All I recall was a white carpet underneath me when I exited the plane. I thought it was really cool at that time...

I've had those... or at least I think so. I was able to manipulate everything and it was cool, my will was taking me wherever i wanted and the best part was that i was aware and it felt like it was real (although i knew i was dreaming)... hard to explain Anyway, they're the best.. dont happen that often anymore though

When asked, my instructor told me a secret how to deal with high flares. "You have to flare lower" LOL It cracks me up all the time

Newbie to licenced, Best AFF sites in USA?
michalm21 replied to SatansJester's topic in Introductions and Greets
I'm from NY, and doing my AFF at DeLand, FL which I recommend. Very good instructors and it's ~$1,200 :P -
Once I get through AFF, get my A, I will prob come to the Ranch often
-
When I started my AFF, there was a group of british army kids (18-20years old) like me trying to do their AFF. One person I talked to, during his #2 jump, had a bad exit, and started spinning and flipping like crazy. Instructors got separated from him, and he panicked and pulled at ~10,000. I remember talking to him right after, and he was freaked out.... well the next day in the morning he jumped again, and said it was the best skydive of his life. Keep your head up and come back to this sport

I know about the ranch, heard it's a really good place. I want to go to DeLand though - FL is very relaxing - it's a good short vacation place, and Skydive Deland is a great place as well

Hey skymama! I'm doing my AFF at DeLand

Yes, I should have been smacked for the mistake I made. Even though I was drilled not to turn low, it somehow felt natural to turn as I thought I was overshooting my landing area. And since I did not want to risk landing on the runways, I turned downwind and approached landing I did not even think about PLF (which I will practice some more next time), wind was ~5mph so I was lucky. Had a rough landing, spraining my ankle in the process. On the good note, everything else was really good (if I only didnt mess up landing approach). In general, I think it was a good lesson to learn, a lesson that may save me in the future

I started my AFF last week. I'm currently recovering from a bad landing and a sprained ankle (rookie mistakes), and getting ready to get back (1000miles hehe) and continue L4 It took me 2 years since my tandem (I was in college, broke) but it's soo worth it. Dropzone.com truly is a great community & learning place, and I hope to meet new people & have many good conversations with everybody here. -Michal

Even though landing (patterns, approach) and PLF was drilled into me (so I thought), I have messed up my L3 landing, spraining my ankle. When I recover and come back to the DZ, I will practice PLF's for at least 30mins... Pancake - you jumped with me on a tandem 2 years ago, making it a great experience. Thanks mate! PS I still have to learn to flare lower...
