  1. you still have bad attitude. that is all. good luck.
  2. I will support d100965 on this one. I believe in loosening the chest strap after popping brakes. Reason is if my canopy doesn't pass full controllability check and I have to cut away, I do not want a loose chest strap! There was a fatality in Elsinore where a very experienced jumper popped his brakes under 1000ft coming back from a long spot and never managed to find his handles... I think it was 2 years ago or so Also, I can easily loosen it up with toggles in my hands, so I never let go of them in this situation.
  3. Chest strap goes loose all the way. Reasons other stated - I think my canopy flies a bit better, it is more responsive to harness input, more comfortable, allows me to lean forward on landing. I do make sure I pop my brakes first, and do full controllability check before loosening it though. I need to make sure canopy functions properly, as I would not want to cut away with very loose chest strap (reminds me of a fatality in Elsinore last year or 2 years ago) The only thing that still worries me is possible malfunction or entanglement with another canopy and subsequent cutaway with then already loose chest strap. Not that those just happen, but risk is always there (given you survived hitting another canopy, it would suck to fall out of harness after cutaway...) edit: I am still reconsidering all +/- and may change and not loosen it much or at all
  4. and if you want a vector, zoodive.com has one of the best (if not the best) online deal, where you get the container with all options (including skyhook) for 2400. No options is like 1950 That's where I bought my rig. But as a student, you will be given a rig to jump.
  5. Totally agree with you with one exception. I think Crosskeys lowered their prices back by $.50 after oil went back down but that's about it. I won't be consistently spending more than $30 per jump. Will start other things, like hang or para gliding and increase BASE
  6. that would be called tethering and, at least on ATT, it costs extra $20 a month with 2GB limit (rape) Curious to what Verizon has. Too lazy to go to their site. edited to add that you can jailbreak and get tethering app that wont cost monthly fees, but i don't quite believe its legal (not that I would ever do such thing, no, never)
  7. But then you will still always get the same arguments that they will just turn it on and forget about it, so what mental load?
  8. So they guy slipped and mistakenly said the wrong date, you never ever done it? Your sarcasm is really great though, high five to you for your brilliant discovery
  9. You wouldn't be concerned about a 12' bridle? [edit to add photo] Here is what can happen with a bridle that is too lengthy. It's not all that can happen, but is one thing that can easily happen. I wish we'd gotten video of this one, because it was so strange (only 2 days ago) Spot, I believe that's also the cause of death of 2 BASE jumpers so far (If I recall one was wingsuit, was was tracking), but it most likely has nothing to do with the length of the bridle, but the technique of the pitch... here is a post from Tom Aiello: The cause of bridle knots (and bridle-over malfunctions) is almost invariably pitch technique, not bridle length. If you are getting knots in the bridle, the problem is how you are throwing the PC, not the length of your bridle. If you flick your wrist as you release the PC (99% of the world's skydivers and 95% of the world's BASE jumpers do this), you will spin the PC so that the "flailing wad of bridle" precedes the PC to bridle extension. When this happens there is a small chance that the PC will interact with the bridle in a negative way, usually developing a bridle knot (but very, very occasionally causing a bridle/PC entanglement). The fix to this problem is to improve your pitch technique so that the PC/bridle bundle moves to full bridle extension in good order, with the PC leading, apex first, followed by the bridle. Most people find it's easier to achieve this by making one of two modifications. They either: a) switch their grip to "underhanded" so that they are wrapping the "web" of their hand around the "bulb" instead of palming the apex of the PC, or; b) cocking their wrist backward as they release the PC, to create a shot putting type motion rather than a flicking motion. It can also be helpful to think about delivering the PC toward your feet (only if you are flat--this can be quite dangerous if you are still head high), rather than your head. I spend about 30 minutes on this material in my First Jump Courses, and I believe that everyone should know (and review) it. edit to add: Note that there are also possible packing, rigging and gear modification fixes to this issue, for example packing the bridle into the pouch before the PC, or creating a "bridle pocket" that stages the bridle behind the PC and separate from it. http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2920216#2920216

    V3

  11. I rock your style Jarno, and looking forward to finally meeting and flying with you at FnD 7.0
  12. what a mattress, I like v4 though :)
  13. curious myself. maybe 12' is an overkill for the Sbird, but I know people jumping 11 and 12' bridles with the Xwings and I am also considering upgrading from my 9' (which is effectively 8.5 actually) to something around 10'-11' to get it cleaner out of the burble
  14. Sorry for the delay in answer. Got a Paragear catalog? If so, look at the pictures. Type 4 has a distinctive square weave that is easily recognized. Thanks! I don't have the catalog but will look online.
  15. riggerpaul, having a few bridles around (sky and BASE) how would I easily determine whether it's type 3 or 4?
  16. Can't tell whether to buy it or not, but in terms of lifespan you should not worry much given the canopy is in good shape. I put 400 jumps on my SA2, and now it has around 900 jumps and is great. Also, not too long ago bough another SA2 with appx 800 jumps on it and expect it to last for a long time. Buying a canopy like this you gets you a) good price b) zp that packs easy
  17. Not to disagree with you, as this is not a response to your last post, just wanted to bring it up that there are countries that require what's essentially equivalent of class 3 medical (valid 1-5 years) to take aff course and skydive in general.... just food for thought in general hope you get your shit taken care of.
  18. My previous Vampire 3 has nothing on my Stealth 2 ... I should have added I have a modified V3 I'm sure it won't compete with Stealth for time, but I wouldn't trade my V3.x for the extra fabric of Stealth/Venom/XBird etc I have a modified Stealth 2. Oh bejesus And I thought my V3 had oversized tail Special request to Robi?
