  1. There is a lot of drop zones in Bay Area. Depending on day of week, driving from San Francisco to Perris will take about 7-10 hours. I mostly jump in Hollister (Adventure Center Skydiving), because I LOVE people and vibe there, and prefer King Air to PAC. Other advantages include good jumpable weather most time of the year, $22 tickets to 15K ($20 if you buy 10+), a really big landing area, and a chance to go to 18K for extra $2 if there are any tandems going to 18K. The disadvantage (for some people; I consider it as a feature to have a 15-minute sleep between jumps) is that landing area is something like 10 miles away, so there is a van ride back. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  2. What about nude jumps? :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  3. That was my understanding too, and that's why I didn't come. I can admit it having no problems being labeled a turbine or whatever snob :) Glad you had fun. BTW was it warm there? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  4. My understanding is that Cypress will not fire in this scenario (it would be stupid), but it will set itself to a new 'ground' pressure, which really is below the landing altitude. The problem is generic and I see no workaround - to know the "ground" altitude Cypress has to watch altitude change during plane takeoff. Sure the described scenario will broke it, but there is no way to tell Cypress "yes, we've took off, so this is the ground". * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  5. I would not agree. It is generally not safe with our experience level, and a broken leg will probably cost you more than a new complete system. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  6. But does nylon reflect radio waves? Is this reflection enough to be received back? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  7. Bill Booth Relative Workshop :) The brand is saved (and even extended), but different company. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  8. At least at Skydive Oregon manifest does request and checks your logbook. It was the only place though, but I only jumped on 6 DZs. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  9. Everybody who has to set their Cypresses 2 to different landing area elevation before every jump knows that it takes a few minutes. Airtec GmbH has implemented the following shortcut to help us in this situation: - On the first time you set the elevation as usual, and the Cypress stores is. - Then when you turn it off and back on, it goes through 10 to 0 as usual. If the button is still pressed (so we're in elevation setting mode), it shows the elevation stored before for a second, so you just need to release the button without waiting for the whole settings process. - If the button is pressed more than for one second, the Cypress resets the stored elevation, and enters the elevation setting mode starting from 30ft again. - If the button is not pressed when the Cypress goes from 10 to 0 (we're not in elevation setting mode), the Cypress sets itself to 0 - no elevation set. This way it will not affect the people who do not use this feature, and will help those who do. If you see any flaws in this scenatio, blame me, not Airtec - it was my idea :) According to AirTec, this upgrade is only for Cypress 2, and will be installed into your Cypress 2 when you send it for maintenance. There is another feature to see the number of jumps made with the unit - check the newsletter - but it was not my idea, so credits go to someone else. Honestly I'm really impressed. I send a feature request to Airtec in July, and they already have it done! Comparing with how some AAD manufactures handle their customer requests I'm very happy that I have chosen Cypress 2 as my AAD. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

  11. Because twelve people in Jury may have no clue about skydiving, and associated risks. Because the court may assess very high punitive damages as well as compensation for "pain and suffering" and so on. For example, most Russian dropzones have no waiver. If you get hurt, you may go to the court, and sue the dropzone. And the probability that you win this case is high (I'd estimate is as 80-99% in most cases). The catch is that you'll spend much more money on this that you'll get. There is no punitive damages by law, and pain and suffering compensation imposed by court was ridiculously low in all the cases I studied about - something between 1000-5000 roubles, which is $35-$175. Medical bills usually are not compensated - the health care system in Russia is officially free of charge. There are more things (and some of them are even more important), but I think even those describe the difference. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  12. It gives you instruction NOT to jump from pressurized aircrafts? It gives you instructions to take special care for moving autos? Now it will probably give you instructions to keep your rig in thermostat to maintain stable temperature? And probably, to jump with this thermostat? Well, what I can say - there is AAD, which does not have this "issues" (which actually are defects). * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  13. The point probably is that you cannot do just 50 jumps and then come to get your B license. You'll need to get your A first. Not exactly. IMHO you need B license (not just "B license qualified") for coach rating, for example. Haven't seen any 24k jumps in Hollister this summer. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  14. AFAIK one of them fired in England. I doubt they experience such radical changes in temperature. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  15. Your sheet and stamp is your A license. SIM does not say you need a license number :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

  17. I landed on asphalt runaway once in no-wind. Threw away my gloves and knee pads after this landing, and was REALLY happy I had both. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  18. My friend's daugher, who is 10, jumped tandem this summer in Russia. There are no age restrictions set by law, so it is up to DZ and TM. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  19. Cypress x-ray card (a plastic one, like credit card) is attached to the last page of Cypress manual. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  20. Was it at something like 5PM on Sunday? If so, I was in this load, and saw your cutaway. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  21. Travelled via SJC and PDX last weekend. In SJC I took my rig as a carry-on. They put it through machine twice, then asked me what's inside, asked me to open the bag, picked up the unpacked pilot chute (had to leave it unpacked or rig wouldn't fit to the bag), asked what's it for and why it's there, took a look on it from different sides, and told me everything is ok, and I can pass. In PDX I checked it in. No problems at all. I suspect that day they have already seen a lot of rigs checked in :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  22. Yes, I heard it from several people who were able to land it. However mine was spinning, so I chopped it. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  23. It was probably some time ago, as now you cannot get 'B' if you do not obtain your 'A': B License 2. Persons holding a USPA B license are able to exercise all privileges of an A-license holder, perform night jumps, with 100 jumps are eligible for the USPA Coach Rating, and must have- a. obtained a USPA A license * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  24. Students are trained very well. Personally I know seven post-AFF graduates (including me), who had their first cutaway before getting their 'A' license on jump numbers from 10 to 35. Most of them were because of our packing errors though, and step-through so far seems to be the winner with 4 of 7. Everybody landed successfully on their reserve. Everybody said that they were surprised on their reaction - no fear, screams or stupid things, just required actions - and it actually helped to build confidence in our skills ("I can handle it!") * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
  25. Don't worry about that. If you ask the people to jump with you, tell them the truth about your jump numbers and skills (you do, right?), and they have no problem with that - nobody will expect you to perform like a world class champion. We jump for fun, not for points - points are good, but if you have fun even making no points, it may be better that if you make all the points but have no fun. So don't be shy. Ask the people if you can join them, and tell them truth about your jump numbers and your skills. They may not invite you immediately, but they will keep you in mind, and may invite you on later jumps (with smaller formation, for example). There is a lot of experienced skydivers, who like jumping with newbies, and have fun. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
